I’m currently on holiday down in Berwick up on Tweed and seeing as Saturday is drawing closer myself and my son are going to take a visit to Shielfield Park and watch Berwick Rangers v Stirling Albion.
Looking at the Berwick Squad they appear to have a few players who have played for the Pars. Calum Smith, Ben Swinton, Lewis Allan.
So my question is you do take in a game of local football when on holiday and have you seen an ex Par in a far flung place?

Hope you enjoy the game shielfield is a good wee stadium. The current chairman is good. He was chairman before when they were losing money hand over fist and he left them with a healthy bank balance (£250k ish). Same situation again when he returned to take over he is efficient and similar to RM taking hands on roles to complete match day preparations.
Hope you enjoy the game though. I`m working so I will miss Dunbar in 3rd Round of Scottish cup in their first time playing in this tourney.

Not anywhere particularly glamorous and you won't be surprised due to the username but I saw Barry Nicholson play for Preston at Brentford and Adam Hamill play for Barnsley at Fulham.

Whilst in Singapore for work about 5 years ago, I went along to an S-League match to see Billy Mehmet play. He was the epitome of a good, honest pro still putting in a full shift for 90 mins, as well as grabbing a goal!
The same could not be said for Tampines’ other ‘big name import’ Jermaine Pennant, who had arrived with great fan-fare and was reportedly the highest paid player ever to play in the S-League (on account of his Arsenal background). A lazier, more disinterested b@stard you could not hope to see on a football field - total fraud only there for the $. Mehmet was streets ahead of him in every way.

Back in the day, a regular visitor to many Scottish houses late in the week was the pools collector from Vernons or Littlewoods.
The family would gather round the dining table as our dads would read out the fixtures one by one...
"Arsenal v Wolves?"... "Home win," we would reply knowingly.
"Coventry v Newcastle?"... "Score Draw!" we would shout with enthusiasm and our dads would ceremoniously mark an "X" on the sheet.
It is just one of those special little events that used to unite us, that we have lost in recent years.
When our football season was over, the pools became even more of a lottery as the operators switched to the Australian leagues. Suddenly, we had to contend with a list of teams we had never heard of, with names like Heidelberg, Marconi, Parramatta.
It was a land of mystery in football terms, and a land of broken dreams as far as making a fortune on the pools was concerned.
Shortly after my family settled in Melbourne, we took a camping holiday touring the pretty pastoral countryside of Gippsland, which stretches east of the city all the way across to the southern edge of New South Wales.
We stopped at in a small town called Morwell outside a football ground where a match was in progress. Even from the car park, we had a clear view of what was going on in the stadium. There was small but boisterous crowd, perhaps 600 or so, and we joined them, not least because the stadium had a decent looking cafe and we were hungry.
It didn`t take long to recognise a very familiar face. A mop of yellowy blonde hair, a small but dynamic midfielder still capable of explosive runs... it was none other than Paul Donnelly, who 10 years earlier had been one of the brightest stars in a period when the Pars generally were struggling.
By this time, he was well into his 30s, but he still looked a class above the other players on the pitch. And even in this modest environment, he looked to be thoroughly enjoying himself.
It was an entertaining game, ended 3-3.
Somewhere in Scotland, a man would be checking his coupon...
"Morwell... now, where is it, Morwell? Score draw... YES!!!"

Good story, Oz
Paul Donnelly was one of my favourite players when I was a wee lad.
When I started my first job as an apprentice at Marconi, I spent three months in the test department where Paul also worked.
He was always interested in my own football career and we would always have a good old blether. A very nice lad indeed.
Colin O’Brien also worked in the same department.
That would be 1981

Not football exactly, but I was at a Zoo in Lanzarote in 2007 with family and met the guy who played Sammy the Tammy. Well I didn`t actually meet him but my mum knew him from various primary school events and I had a Pars top on, so he signed a piece of paper in typical Sammy the Tammy style. Think I still have it somewhere.

Pittencrieff Raymie. My mum was head of the PTA when I was there and managed to get Sammy in for a couple of end of term events, beat the goalie etc. She said she had to show him to a staff room to get ready and when he came out in the gear he didn`t say another word to her, he was switched on into Sammy mode :-)
