From our point of view, that has got to be encouraging news, Raymie.

I would like to see Dow and Thomas swap wings... Dow on the right, Thomas on the left. I always feel that provides our strongest threat.

How on earth do I log in to ParsTv with a season ticket? It asks for the Barcode and Seat details but then comes to an error page saying Post code not recognised, when even the front page says post codes are no longer needed?

First game in the flesh for years.

I worry about the Raith lineup, they're set up to dominate possession with a the 4231, Zannata, Ross and Connolly will find loads of space between the lines, we could do with pressuring there centre backs and forcing them long.

Confident 🤔🤔
They`re set up to dominate midfield yet again, and that`s where it`ll be won and lost.
I think it`ll be a night defending something again.

Goes one of two ways IMO, either Raith are a couple up by half time with us unable to deal with there passing and interchanging.

Or, keep it tight for 60 minutes, the introduction of Wilson, while the lack of attacking subs for Raith means we can grab a draw, or a win.

I actually fancy us to win tonight although only because they are missing Matthews and Benedictus. Hopefully it gives the lads confidence because Arbroath will be a test on Saturday (and Grant mentioning the wind at Firhill already has me on alert for Saturday at Gayfield! A wee bit surprised he`s went with the same team - thought Breen might come in for Gasputis as he looked like he wasn`t fully over the injury he got v Kilmarnock and I`d like to see Wilson start but appreciate he isn`t up to speed yet. Kennedy, despite his lack of end product
for Dow, who has looked well off the pace would also be something I could get on board with.

First game I have seen since Hamilton. Created zilch, no shots on target , speed of moving the ball is pedestrian. We started OK but have fallen away the last 15. Raith look the more threatening side when they have the ball.

Not the worst game. Unfortunately Wighton's posted missing. I know he's not exactly getting what you'd call service but he needs to do better as the ball's coming forward imo.
Need to get the through balls for Edwards in front of him to let him make some progress.

Can’t believe co commentator Raymie thinks we are going ok.

It has been dreadful. Neither wonder we don’t score many when we don’t even create chances.

Connelly has had a mare.

Only Pybus and Thomas getting pass marks for me.

Wighton is an utter disgrace. He doesn’t even run….jogs occasionally.

Lazy does not even begin to describe him.

Poor poor stuff.

Thomas looks the only player that could comfortably play at a slightly higher level. Rest are in the mire right now but that's no doubt confidence led. And coaching of course.

We look solid enough at the back but our front six (and full backs) just don't go through any phases of play. As I said, only Thomas looks comfortable on the ball. I'd have Kennedy and Wilson on immediately and then at least you have three ball players on the pitch.

Wighton has shown the heart of a mouse in this first half. He challenges for nothing in the air or the ground. Seems decide to arrive late to every ball played up to him.

We're solid but once again I'm envying the opposition forwards. Skill from Zannata and pace and strength from Poplatnik.

Was worth watching if only for DT’s goal. An absolute peach. Reminded me of Isvan Kozma’s howitzer against St Mirren many moons ago.

Second half marginally better but over all a poor performance and deserved what we got at the end. Grant should have been screaming at them to get up the pitch the last ten mins. Maybe he was?

Well there`s one thing we do know, because we`ve been watching it for a few weeks now, the majority of our players, particularly up front do not have the fighting qualities needed to get away from the bottom.

The defenders maybe do but not the strikers.

Scunnered with that. Looked solid at the back but for that goal. Needing a wee bit luck. But, having said that, lost our shape a bit there towards the end and invited trouble. Wighton, O'Hara, Todorov, Kennedy, Thomas, should be enough quality in there up front to cause trouble but it's just not working at the moment

These results can only be the result of one of two things - the players aren't good enough or the players aren't performing.

The consensus appears to be we have good players not performing. Why is that?

Could understand the todorov sub, as he’s an extra big lump for when rovers started hitting it 60 yards forward. But kennedy? When its backs to the wall defending? Not closing down a shot in the 86th min is unforgivable.

Keeper should have stopped the shot I felt . He went down in instalments . Bringing Wilson on cost us the middle of the park . I’d still have kept wighton or o’hara on before bringing on Todorov. One of the worst pars players I’ve ever seen .
So much wrong with this side although I was impressed with Thomas and the back four are starting to look settled.

One shot on target in 90 minutes,Wighton a gutless waste of a jersey hardly broke sweat all night a luxury we can`t afford when we are struggling.

Today was the 1st time we have been ahead in a game since Morton away. That lead lasted 7 minutes. Today it lasted 38 minutes. So in total of 990 minutes of league football we have been ahead for a grand total of 45 minutes

Look on the bright side we increased that by over 600% today.

Sorry but this relegation form. At some point those above us will get a couple of wins and open a gap. We simply cannot score goals. Player quality on paper means nothing.
Arbroath will beat us on Saturday. Hard to see where the win will come. I said on another forum that Grant would take us down before a ball was kicked. I got accused of not being at games to comment. Screw that. I am sadly being proved right.
The board need to change the manager now.

Fightless forwards are contributing to us going down.

Forget needing quality up front. At this moment in time we need fighters up there and those guys can`t do that job.

Quality players shine through when all is going well not when you`re propping the league up.

Grant probably knows this but also knows they`re contracted and has no choice to play them.

Never a pen. He was nearly down before the guy challenged. Ref had a great view of it. On their goal, Dow went to close the boy down then inexplicably went wide to the north west and the space opened up like the Red Sea.

Supporting DAFC is definitely not good for the health.
I suspect we all knew in our heart that we wouldn’t defend that slender one goal lead and so it proved.
Raymie in his commentary was warning well in advance of the Raith goal that we were sitting too deep and leaving nobody upfield. As he said, Kennedy’s not going to win any balls in the air so get him up the park.
But we didn’t. We sat back and we paid the price.
I was a huge fan of Wighton when he joined the club and he scored a few magic goals under SC: he’s done nothing since however. I fear he’s now becoming an unaffordable luxury. There seems to be little or no effort on his part - a few clever flicks or passes perhaps but that’s just not enough.
As for the others, I suppose Todorov came on too late to do anything tonight but I’m not hopeful he’s going to shine in this team.
O’Hara seems to have gone off the boil too at the moment. I can’t work out if he’s being played in the wrong position or just can’t get himself into goal scoring situations.
And other potential goal scorers? McCann - no sign of it happening. Wilson, ditto. Same for Kennedy. Thomas was definitely outstanding tonight, and not just because he scored. His work rate should be a lesson for those around him.
So what is the best partnership up front? I admit that I’m struggling to provide an answer. We do though really need to get this sorted and soon. Unlike Rastapari and OzPar I don’t think we’re relegation material yet, but the longer this malaise continues the more likely it is that that’s the position we’ll be in.
BTW, big kudos to the crowd this evening who sounded great. As was pointed out on the BBC text service, Hamilton managed an attendance of only 980 compared to our 4500.
With that level of support behind the team the players really have no excuses.

We aren`t good, without Thomas today we would have been rank. The equaliser was a weak goal to lose. But, if we score goals at the end of games we are going to lose goals at the end of games. Struggling to figure out who we can beat.

1-0 up with 10 to go and Grant takes off 2 attacking players and replaces them with.... 2 attacking players. What a balloon! I have to blame the coaches too. Do they have absolutely no influence on Grant`s poor decision making? Another spineless performance.

Nowhere near good enough and Raith were nothing special either. We tested their keeper once in the whole game and it happened to be a wonder strike. We then sat off them for the last 10/15 minutes and you just knew it would cost us. A terrible goal to concede near the end of the game. We seem to bypass the midfield and lump it up to strikers who are miles of it at the moment. Kennedy was brought on far too late and should have came on for Dow. He should actually be starting instead of Dow as he is more likely to create a goal scoring chance with his pace and skill.

Grant is an absolute disgrace of a manager and the board are worse for backing him. We have blown a massive opportunity to challenge for the league this season as not one team (with the exception of Arbroath) have impressed me this season and that makes being 10th even more worrying. A competent manager would have had us near the top this season. Instead we ignored many applicants to headhunt a complete fraud who has brought nothing but false promises. This is up there as one of the worst spells as a Pars fan for me.

It`s a shame because the fans were yet again fantastic today. What an atmosphere the North West created.

We are going down because we don’t score enough goals . You need to score goals to win games . Grant to his credit has stopped the absolute thumpings but that in turn has limited us all over the park. We don’t get forward in numbers because we know we’ll lose goals when we give the ball away.
Unlikely we’ll rectify any of these problems before January when the transfer window opens. Chances are we’ll have had to pay compo to PG . The club is an absolute mess unfortunately.

If the board don’t act tomorrow and get him and the other two clowns out the door they won’t see another penny from me. Absolutely abysmal decision making at the top of our club, everyone can see it.. why can’t they? Grant should have been sacked weeks ago. They’re haemorrhaging money by keeping him. The worrying thing is the anger has now turned to apathy, it looks like nobody cares enough to even vent their frustration. That crowd was absolutely shocking again tonight.. 4500? Be lucky if it was half that.

Enjoyed the game albeit a lack of quality, thought defensively for the majority we were pretty sound however never really posed much, if any threat.

It was a belter of a goal from Thomas, a worthy winner one would say and he was unlucky with his other shot where it should’ve been a corner but GK was given.

Personally, I’d rather have seen a goal similar to a tap in rather than the worldie, that kind of goal was the only way we were going to score tonight and if we’re going to rely on that each game week then the struggles will continue.

I thought Pybus and Allan had good games in midfield, however, they don’t bring anything offensively to the table, they are both defensive minded and noticed whenever the ball got to them the tempo slowed and killed any kind of momentum, that needs to get sorted.

Can’t really blame much on the strikers, feeding off scraps most of the game as we were bypassing the midfield most of the time. Main attacking threat came from Edwards and Thomas. In saying that I don’t think Wighton and O’Hara will work well as a partnership.

It was a good game to watch, I was really willing a victory tonight and genuinely thought we might have held on but with the way our season is going not too surprised at the late equaliser. A point each was a fair result.

As for Grant, was watching him quite closely today and I’m not sure if they are over complicating things, he was out constantly telling players where to stand, what to do, so much that the players themselves looked devoid of thinking for themselves and were always reaching out for guidance.

Think they need a little more freedom.

That’s another draw, one loss in seven an optimist would say and Grant I think will continue on to the Arbroath game. The way Arbroath are performing as well, i think a loss on Saturday could be curtains.

Did i miss the games (s) when Kennedy showed pace, skill or looked likely to create a goal?

Nowhere near physical enough for this league and easily brushed off the ball in the lead up to their goal. Would rather he`d stayed on the bench.

Yet another honking performance. Fair play to Dom Thomas for a fantastic goal but apart from that we created nothing.

Anyone claiming that we done well tonight obviously knows nothing about football or has some agenda.

We're heading towards relegation with this clown at the helm and the board seem happy with that.

Utter nonsense regarding Kennedy . He was a top performer at Raith last season and is well thought of at Sevco. Peter Grant obviously doesn’t fancy him so he’ll be away in January . Probably loaned out to a better club in the division.

The really strange thing for me was the double sub. Rovers had offered next to nothing offensively and we changed the tactic and brung on players who don’t press(expecially todorov) we invited pressure and Spencer took his chance well. I wasn’t too worried we were going to concede with ohara on the field pressing them high.

The Board should have removed Grant weeks ago but judging from their lack of action on Both AJ and Crawford I will expect them to make a decision in Mid April when.we are 15 points adrift.
That home attendance tonight should have focused minds and should tell them that they have completely lost the fanbase but this will limp on for weeks to come.

What has he done this season, at this club?

It`s not our job to develop players for Sevco. If he`s well thought of at Sevco and is genuinely a future Rangers star, he should be lighting this place up.

All i`ve seen is a few tricks, a ludicrous dive and plenty getting brushed off the ball.

IF he`s contributed anything in terms of chances or goals, tell me when and I`ll go back and have a look.

All 3 strikers, Wighton, O'Hara and Todorov are poor. Wighton was hiding tonight, not making runs, half hearted challenges, lazy.
Going to continue to find it difficult to score goals with those 3 as our only options. Didn't understand the Wilson for Pybus substitution. How Dow is never subbed is beyond me as he has been murder for weeks. Nothing like the same player following his return from injury. He has lost a yard and at their equaliser, ran away from the guy with the ball, allowing him to shoot.
We sat too deep, left no one up the park to provide an out ball, invited them on to us and lost the goal as a result. Surely the manager should be screaming at them from the side not to do that?

Both teams were really poor in the first half. Start of second half though, we came to life and had some good play. Deserved the goal, which was a phenomenal strike at the end of a sharp counter attack. Dow’s play in the lead up can’t be ignored.

After that, we got deeper and deeper. The manager’s changes suggested this was his plan and what he wanted to see. At several points we had all 11 Pars players in our own box in open play. You’re asking for trouble if you do that. Really poor game management. We even hurried Kennedy on the park when we were going to play a free kick into the box. What’s the point in that? He clearly wasn’t going to be much use at that set piece. Basic game management would also see a manager until the next stoppage and run the clock down a bit more. Don’t use the same stoppage for both subs.

We looked all over the place after the subs and the game was only ever going to end one way after we made them. Really disappointing, given we had that momentum when we scored. Manager seemed too happy to throw that away and gamble on keeping a clean sheet - which obviously didn’t happen.

He`s showed far more promise than Dow this season and he`s had nowhere near enough chances to prove himself. You can`t expect a player to come on with the last 10/15 minutes each week and change the game, he needs to start. He looked decent and probably the only bright spark in the games he started but was dropped as soon as Dow became fit. Grant finally saw sense to play Thomas and he needs to give Kennedy a run on the other wing. Two players capable to creating something from nothing. Dow was fantastic the last two seasons but needs time on the bench this season. He wasn`t at fault for the goal today. The lack of closing down from the midfield was to blame

I thought the wonder goal from the best player on the park was going to be enough but not to be - Thomas and the defence were good but not much else - with Pybus and Allan in midfield we are forced to play long - if that’s the case I’d rather play Todorov - Wighton gets a lot of criticism but for me O’Hara has been very poor for a while and I’d leave him out.

If we were playing confident attacking football then Kai Kennedy might fit in but we need fighters at the moment and he just looks powder puff.

Raith looked very poor - a very disappointing 2 points dropped.

I would have taken the win tonight Hoping it would have gave the boys a bit of confidence which you can see they lack .
We have zero creativity at the moment , nobody takes a man on we always go backwards or high ball pumped forward which is absolutely no good to Wighton or O`Hara , Sitting in the Norrie you could see the goal coming as we sat back for the last 15 mins Invited them in and we were lucky on a couple of occasions they didn`t score , And for the goal I cannot understand why you back of a player and let him have a shot , somebody should have at least tried to stop the shot or take him out , will not dwell on anything tonight but I thought the referee was absolutely crap and gave them the Lion`s share of decisions
I have to settle for a draw but it should have been played out better and we would have got the win ,
As others said i couldn`t see the reason to take O`hara off when Dow was still on the park
Scunnered tonight

Worth remembering, Raith were without 5 big players - Musonda, Vaughan, Varian, Benedictus and Matthews. But scraping a draw seems to be good enough for some of our fans.

Seems like some people would rather see us get relegated, than admit the board made a mistake appointing Grant - and are making mistakes every week that goes by without getting rid of him. Mistakes happen. They obviously did believe he was the right man and had the best intentions for the club. But we need to accept it was wrong and try and resolve the situation.

A good 20 minute spell isn’t enough. We need results and this manager clearly isn’t the man to get them. His game management is horrific and his substitutions/tactical changes cost us those points tonight. In the same way his decisions earlier in the season to repeatedly leave out OFW, Gaspuitis and Thomas cost us points. Mehmet and Graham ahead of the first 2 in particular were very costly and we have nothing going forward without Thomas. It’s quite embarrassing.

The writing was on the wall with the substitution of Pybus for Wilson, took the drive from the midfield to go more defensive instead of pressing and closing the game out, bringing Todorov on made us a man short.the inevitable happened. a few more weeks like this will leave E.E.P. a very empty place.

Utter nonsense regarding Kennedy . He was a top performer at Raith last season and is well thought of at Sevco. Peter Grant obviously doesn’t fancy him so he’ll be away in January . Probably loaned out to a better club in the division.

Rubbish. Ask Raith fans. Teams sussed him out last season after about a fortnight

I couldn't give a fk whether you trust me or not. As others have said he's not really done enough to remove a pretty ineffective Ryan Dow from the starting line up.

The writing was on the wall with the substitution of Pybus for Wilson, took the drive from the midfield to go more defensive instead of pressing and closing the game out, bringing Todorov on made us a man short.the inevitable happened. a few more weeks like this will leave E.E.P. a very empty place.

I think that was an enforced change, Gordi?

He was absolutely gutted that we hadn’t won the game.
Hope we can keep him. Really good player

He came here and we drew 1-1 with Raith.

And here we are, drawing 1-1 with Raith. Wooooo

Factually correct but a bit immature for you Grant. Poor show

Just a bit bored of this talk of "improvement" and "turning a corner" it's just nonsensical, has there been a real improvement since the Inverness and Hamilton games where we drew? It's all been a much of muchness, we still look utterly incapable of creating chances, and have done for weeks.

I'm glad that Mark Connolly is trying to big himself up, in the two games prior to him joining we kept two clean sheets with four at the back, since then we've had 5 games and had 1 clean sheet? While all the while still looking pretty incompetent putting a cohesive game plan together, and incapable of winning a game.

Don't know where this real improvement is, it's just a fairly standard bit of clichéd nonsense that Raymie has tried to attribute some meaning too.

da no 1, at the end of the day it`s all about opinions but my opinion is that he should be given a run of games with Thomas on the other wing. That would allow two exciting wingers (on their day) to test defences.

You are correct that he hasn`t removed an ineffective Dow from the line up but a lot of decisions Grant has made this season have been completely illogical. I`d argue this is one of them.

Aye maybe. To be fair we create hardly any chances in a game. Somebody mentioned earlier about freeing up players to just play fitba and I kind of agree with that. Maybe we have too many coaches barking constant instructions at players. With players like Dom, Kennedy, Dow etc they should maybe just get let loose on teams, the only instruction being to swap wings every 20 minutes.

I've spoken to 2 Raith fans tonight, both said "you'll no go down playing like that". Fact is we will.

That was very disappointing. After leading for so much of the 2nd half, the draw felt like a defeat, the opposite of that last minute equaliser v Killie.

You could see the players were desperate for the win, but a lack of confidence was evident as we retreated deeper into our own half with no out ball. It was almost inevitable we would concede.

I heard some nonsense spouted by scunnered supporters on my way home, such as "Another draw, Grant will be happy with that", "The Board will be telling us we should be happy because we're improving" and "The Board are keeping Grant on because they're scared to admit they made a mistake." Literally no one is happy with that result and no one is defending Peter Grant. The Board's continuing support for the manager is a source of concern for many fans. I can only imagine that he's been told he has until a certain date to get that elusive first win or be sacked.

I thought we started brightly but then got bogged down, created very few chances and even less shots on target. A wonder goal from Dom Thomas deserved to win the game, but I always felt we needed a 2nd. Although service to the forwards was poor, I feel they heed to work harder. Far too often, Rovers players had too much time and space in possession, allowing them to pick a pass and put us under pressure. Defending starts from the front and closing down opponents on the ball should be a given and not the odd half hearted token effort on display last night.

I'm not following the train of thought that the forwards need to work harder, Wighton and O'Hara put an absolute ton of work in closing down the Raith defence. The reason Raith didn't dominate us through midfield was the power of work they put in closing down the Rovers defence, the amount of punts out the park from Raith etc were testament to that.

Thought Peter Grant got his subs absolutely wrong, was bizarre keeping Dow on.

We're 11 games into the season GG. At this point the only explanation is a financial one.

After the QoTS the wording was that things would have to change, and quickly. That was coming off the back of 3 draws and a defeat.

Since then we've had 3 games and 3 draws, wheres this change? The improvement? Does a win against Arbroath really say that PG is the man for the job?

The board are the only folk at EEP that thinks this clown is going to turn it around. He should’ve been sacked weeks ago, we will never win a league game under him and in 11 games I can’t say that overall we have deserved to win any games. Getting to the point there’s no reason to shout Grant out etc cause it’s not happening anytime soon. Seems that the BOD are content to sit back and watch us drop into league one. Before anyone says that’s untrue, then what logical reason is there for keeping him on? Going down would set us back years and the financial implications aren’t worth even thinking about

What the actual f&&* has Grant`s reaction to the goal got to doing with anything? Managers up and down the country do this all the time. Guaranteed if he`d jumped up and down he`d have been criticised for getting unduly carried away. More negative folk doing what they`re good at - looking for negativity.

I'm genuinely amazed at your post, Grant. I lost count of the number of times the Raith goalie and the defenders immediately in front of him were allowed loads of time and space to make forward passes without even the semblance of a challenge and it got worse as the game wore on. I don't want to single out any player but running towards an opponent in possession and then stopping is not closing down in my book.

Defenders are normally less skillful than attackers and can be harried into making mistakes and losing possession - Jock Stein

You may be right, Grant but I'd be surprised if there isn't a clause in the manager's contract which would allow for termination without having to pay full compensation. We could be reaching a point where we can't afford NOT to sack him. If they do decide we need a change, I hope they're lining up a replacement now.

The effort was fine, in fact I think up until the last 20 minutes when we got too deep and invited Raith on to us, we pressed the ball pretty well and quite often won possession high up the pitch. A few times Raith played some nice stuff and worked it out of tight situations, fair play to them, I`d prefer us being brave and pressing high as much as we can. The problem was that when we got the ball, we lacked quality (Thomas, and occasionally Dow aside) and didn`t do enough with it.

O`Hara and Wighton worked hard, in fact I thought Wighton was better than normal at battling loose balls/balls in the air - but he was poorer than normal when he had decent possession. O`Hara is limited on the ball, his touch is erratic and unfortunately this showed. Possibly time to try Kennedy instead of O`Hara, because his touch is way better and he can dribble past players.

Thomas was great, really good to see him play like that again. Dow was better than previous games, but not up to his pre-injury levels, even at the end he had a chance to win it but dragged it wide, sums up his and our season so far.

The defence did fine more or less, Zanatta caused most of the problems but either by fouling him or getting a block in they managed to deal with him and the rest of Raith`s attacks. OFW has been better this season, don`t think he had much chance with the goal which was in the bottom corner and flashed past Gaspuitus and someone else (Kennedy?).

Allan and Pybus - poor on the ball first half, but second half they were much better, playing quicker more accurate forward passes. They also pressed the ball well, when Pybus went off this effected our pressing.

It`s a shame that we stopped pressing the ball high up the pitch at the end. It`s understandable as confidence is low and its natural to try and hold out. It might be a lack of experience in central midfield, it may have been Grant`s fault with the tactics/shape last 20 minutes - or a mixture of both. But it was pity, given that we did play quite well at the beginning of the second half, given that we do have good forward players that we stopped threatening at all - we invited a poor Raith team forward and the goal was coming for quite a while.

On the Raith goal, if you`re a goalie I think you`re disappointed thats went in, might have been put off by the defenders maybe being generous.

I think that`s a pretty good summary of the game, Bucuresti Par. Judging by his substitutions and his post-match comments, I don`t think PG wanted us to `sit in` the way we did but I can understand the players` mentality when they`ve gone so long without a win. Nobody had the confidence (or ability?) to find a pass when we were under pressure and the ball just kept on coming back into our box. Maybe Dorrans would have helped in that situation.

I don`t think OFW could be faulted for the goal. He probably saw it late and it was well-placed. Wilson and Dow could have done a better job of closing Spencer down though.

Some criticism has been made regarding our substitutions. Bringing on Todorov for Wighton, I thought, was a reasonable one to make. Wighton had put in a reasonable shift of closing down for most of the game and it was good to see a large number of the fans showing their appreciation as he went off. The manager possibly thought that it was best to keep pressing for a second goal rather than lie back and encourage Raith to attack. When Todorov came on against Killie his aerial threat laid on the equaliser for Comrie. I also thought, after a promising sub appearance against Thistle that Wilson deserved another outing.

Why do you single me out, red star par? Can you not read what others are saying?

You claim that I am no Pars fan "that`s for sure". Apart from being enormously hurtful, why? Because I recognised and wrote very early in the piece (the 0-3 loss to Arbroath) that we were wasting our time with Peter Grant? I was certainly not alone in saying it then.

You say a bit of positivity wouldn`t go amiss. Heck, look at the OP in Saturday`s match thread... I forecast we would beat Thistle 2-0. Pretty positive, surely? Indeed, it was verging on wildly optimistic!

I have followed the Pars since the days when Willie Cunningham was manager. You may dismiss me as a "moaning old Shiela", but I will defend myself by saying my comments on Grant are based on a lengthy perspective.

Yes, we have had some baddies in the past. With Forsyth and Stanton, it was primarily inexperience. With Scott, it was disinterest. But with Grant, it is something entirely different.

Grant is probably competent enough as number two, a backroom boy, but he displays neither the leadership qualities nor the management nous to be number one.

Hopefully, this sorry episode will come to an end next Saturday. We cannot afford to let it run any longer.

Some brief comments from me:

The game itself was never likely to be a classic, not in the conditions or with the Pars lack of form, and wasn’t.

Raith may have been slightly weakened, but it wasn’t as if they were playing with 8 players, they had perfectly adequate replacements for the 3 missing men.

Hopefully that won’t be the best goal we score all season, but there will be few better. PG not celebrating is an irrelevance as far as I am concerned – there may the residue of an issue between him and Thomas but they have to get beyond that. Teams are often vulnerable after they’ve scored (see the Killie game) so they need to switch back on – although I suspect the issue might have been updating his plan for the rest of the match.

As for the substitutions, I think there are at least two orthodoxies to their use – use them, as fresh legs and fresh ideas are normally beneficial, and at some point use them to close the game down. Choice of personnel may be dictated by obvious things like who is on a yellow or who is having a ‘mare, or less clear factors such as who is carrying a knock or has been ill.

So Wilson comes on after an hour – some people on here wanted him to start. Perhaps he could have come on for Dow, or for Allen, Dow perhaps offers more offensively.

Then a double sub with 10 minutes to go – maybe more normal would be to waste more time by doing them separately. But unless you are going 5 at the back (and we may never do that again), it has to be 2 out of McCann, Kennedy and Todorov coming on, and, if you are moving to a more defensive outlook, then both forwards are coming off. It seems to me that the problem was that we defended too deep and for too long. This was predictable, because it is natural – it must be hard for Kennedy or Todorov to hang around the half-way line, while your mates are under the cosh.

Finally, on Kennedy v Thomas. I thought the contrast was quite apparent at Palmerston – Kennedy started, and I think he had one fantastic, long, mazy dribble, that ended with a shot miles off target. Thomas replaced him, and whilst I accept it can be easier for a sub to look good, Thomas seemed much less wasteful, and almost immediately looked to have set-up O’Hara only for him to be offside. In short, in terms of end result Thomas has been far superior, and it is unfortunate if (and I’m speculating) there were disciplinary issues preventing his selection earlier.

Grant alluded to the fact the he dropped Thomas because of his work rate.
The penny seems to have dropped and he was by miles our best player and at one point in the first half, ran back to get a foot in on Zanatta right on our bye line
