 Give it a rest
Topic Originator: Rigger Al

I used to enjoy coming onto this forum but over the last couple of months it has become embarrassing to say the least .

We still have 3/4 of the season to go and I for one is certain we will pull well clear of relegation.

This has simply turned into a personal attack on our clubs Manager .

I dont know about anyone else but I choose to follow the pars as they were a family orientated club and support the team ,management and board through the good and bad, thats what you get when supporting the pars .

I am like any other pars fan disappointed with the results ,but we will get nowhere with this negative attacks our players ,management and BOD.

There are a number of posters on here who even if we had won would have been hacked off cause it woul give them less ammo to attack our Manager .

As long as PG is our manager he will have my support as he wears the black and white and I believe he wants to succeed as much as we all do.

All I would ask is for the keyboard warriors to consider taking a week or so away from the constent attacks and abuse ,and lets see what happens

Absolutely reasonable viewpoint, and resonates with my natural affinity with the status quo. I'm desperate for us to turn the corner, who knows that may well be Saturday, and maybe we'll go on a run. The odds are really stacked against us, though, and can completely understand the vitriol on here.

Perhaps there are one too many threads about the manager but it`s completely understandable why there is a lot of resentment towards the club at the moment. Grant was a hugely unpopular appointment who I said from the start had to hit the ground running to turn any opinions of him around. So far, the fans have been correct. I don`t think there has been many personal attacks towards Grant or the board on this forum but there have been petty insults thrown around by certain posters towards other posters, which I find laughable. I`ve never understood why people can`t discuss topics normally without that approach. After all, most wouldn`t do it in a face to face conversation.

I personally don`t have a lot of positives towards the board and Grant, but that`s my opinion and people on here will disagree with that which is fine. When Crawford left I was very excited to see who could be brought in as I saw this season as our big chance to challenge. When Grant was the man the board decided would be our manager, I was in complete shock and feared the board had destroyed any chance we had of promotion. I still did not foresee us being 11 games into the season with 0 wins, which is, quite frankly, an embarrassment and puts Grant down as the worst manager I`ve seen at the club.

The fans at the games do deserve massive credit for the continued support they show. During most of the home games the atmosphere has been far from negative and the North West stand do a great job creating a fantastic atmosphere - even after the poor results and the disgraceful statement the board released after the Queens game.

I really hope we can turn it round and Grant ends up being successful but I see no evidence of this happening, and the longer he stays, it makes the board look even more clueless.

I agree, please give it a rest. I moved to Dunfermline in 1960, lived at the bottom of Townhill Road. Went to home games after half time...too poor to pay to get in and gates opened after half time and quite a few of us went in free.

Iv`e enjoyed the highs along with the lows. Never felt the need to hurl abuse at players although had a few rants at the referee, Tiny Wharton being the one who in my opinion did us no favours.

Can`t manage to get to EEP now due to health however I enjoy watching Pars on line, just wish they could start winning some games.

It's a Football Forum to discuss points of view...

At the moment we are rank rotten with a manager who shouldn't of even got the job but you want everyone on here to be a happy clapper and be all positive with every post.

When you're bottom of the league with no win in 11, you're dreaming if the fans aren't going to be upset and pissed off at the current state of affairs.

It's sickening.
I dont dislike the guy and I don't think he is a fraud. I think he believes in himself.

Yes give it a rest. Some of the language and vitriol is completely out of order. Anonymous armchair critics sitting in the comfort of their homes calling people clowns and worse is well out of order. Little wonder decent fans are getting cheesed of with the forum.

Would you say a personal attack is calling him useless or a fraud? That`s about the worst I`ve seen but perhaps certain posts have been deleted that went too far before I had the chance to see them. He has been described as a fraud because of all the smoke he blew up his backside at the start. He has the chat of a successful manager but results prove on the park that`s far from the truth. I don`t dislike him as a person either but I think he is an awful manager. He is the manager of a club which should be pushing for promotion. 0 wins in 11 is beyond a joke.

I will always support the team but just feel so deflated with the club at the moment and feel the relationship between fans and board is so distant. Regardless, none of that will stop me from going to every home game, but it just doesn`t feel the same this season and after a year without going to the football, I thought this would be one of the most exciting seasons in a long time. I can`t see where our first win will come from. Hopefully this Saturday but I cannot see it. Come 3 o`clock however I will be listening for every update - hoping for the best.

“I for one is certain we will pull well clear of relegation”

1. There is absolutely no evidence of that being likely being certain is going very very close to sheer delusion.

2. The standards of this football club should absolutely not include avoiding relegation as acceptable. We must demand better.

You don’t do irony then, Ross?

Nobody, I repeat nobody is happy with how the season has gone but I will never resort to calling the manager a clown, a fraud, a charlatan and worse.

If results don’t improve, he will inevitably lose his job, but from my seat, the players are still playing for him and I will keep supporting them as always

Of course I do Raymie, but when someone comes into a job, no matter what it is and makes themselves out to be the best thing and have a CV that `puts others to shame` it will immediately be remembered when they end up being found out. Grant set himself up for being accused as a fraud. If he didn`t come out with all that rubbish at the start, he would just be labelled as a poor manager. I just can`t understand why the board would make such a gamble on him. It made no sense approaching him, never mind appointing him.

Do you expect someone to come into a job and talk down their abilities? The interviews I heard were entirely reasonable. Not in the least arrogant. Kicking someone when they are down is pretty despicable. Why to people do it? Maybe to boost their own fragile self esteem?

Because some fans demand change does that make them any less of a `decent fan?`. Always seems more of an arrogance by some on this forum who look like they portray themselves as `better than you` because they believe they are the elite in football supporting terms.

Peter Grant is not good enough to be manager of this football club and no matter how much posters come on here and defend him he will never be good enough.

He has won ZERO games. His league win ratio is 0%. We are the only senior team in Scotland without a win. 60th place in the pyramid is the next Scottish team winless.

We have not won a league game in front of fans for 503 days and do not look like we will win one anytime soon.

Part time Arbroath are odds on to beat us on Saturday.

I certainly do not think those unhappy with the current regime should simply just `give it a rest`, is it too much to think maybe they aren`t giving it a rest because quite simply they care? Obviously not giving it a rest doesn`t mean that personal abuse should be tolerated and should 100% be called out. But a football forum should be a place for fans to openly vent frustrations if they believe the club is being mismanaged either on or off the field.

It`s another big beefy bonanza at the beefcake boulevard!!

Paralex, I`ve never heard anyone talk themselves up like that in an interview since Mourinho claimed to be the special one! The difference is, he actually had a track record of success. I`d argue that it was arrogant. I will admit, I did have sympathy for him after the QoTS game. Even though my feelings are perfectly clear on his managerial abilities, it`s not nice seeing an individual look completely down. His body language had me convinced he would step down after that game but he`s still here. We need to start winning soon to ease fan pressure on him and more importantly get us out of trouble. I just wonder how long he will get to finally get a win under his belt before the board see sense.

Grant may well not be the man for the job and fans are fully entitled to put their views across. All I would ask is that we do it constructively.
Shouting GTF in his face, as he leaves the pitch or abusing him on dot net, is not the way, IMO.
That’s not aimed at you, in particular, that’s a general comment.

Dunfermline are a proper football club. The fans are all locals, even if some of us live a bit further afield these days, and its the reason I continue to support the club, see games whenever I can, and generally bore the pants off anybody that will listen to my stories about supporting the Pars and hating the Old Firm.

We all care, the Pars mean something to us all. Its also the reason I`ve got a lot of respect for PG, because I think he cares too. Is he the right man for the job? Probably not, clearly his record so far is terrible and he`s on a right shoogly peg. But, he does care, and for that if nothing else I hope on Saturday we shove the bunnett where the sun don`t shine.

I don`t necessarily agree with your post but it`s a football forum so it`s all welcome. You shouldn`t be on here asking people who want rid of the manager to stop posting, it`s a football forum. We can all talk and discuss what side of the fence we sit on regarding the current situation.

On this point -

"We still have 3/4 of the season to go and I for one is certain we will pull well clear of relegation."

I mean it`s a lovely thought but what exactly are you basing that on? We`re no better than any team in the league and we`ve proved that. We`ve shown relegation form thus far, okay we maybe have had a little more fight but where`s that going to get us? 9th, 8th at best? With all due respect to other teams in the league, we shouldn`t be talking about avoiding relegation. Lets be honest here, we were told we would be fighting for the title.

I`m sick to the back teeth of fans on here thinking they`re better because they clap the team off after getting beat 0-3 at home and don`t call for change. People need to stop pretending that they`re shocked when fans are unhappy, football is a results business, it always has been.

There lies the problem. I bet literally no-one you think you`re addressing in your post did that.

I also think the vast majority want rid of Peter Grant and I don`t think anyone has suggested that everyone in that majority should stop posting.

You don`t know who you`re talking to 98% of the time on here. I`d like to think that the ones clapping at the end of poor home draws and losses are the ones on here with their shield, defending the manager.

Also, the thread is called give it a rest, where the OP literally asks for negative people to stop posting for a week. The opposite to happy clapper seems to be a keyboard warrior on here.

``football is a results business, it always has been.``

Exactly. If, or more likely when, Peter Grant is relieved of his duties it will be because of results being so poor: not because of supporters shouting for his head or because of anything written on here.

We are being reminded that words have consequences but that applies to Peter Grant as well. He chose to make an ill-judged remark about his coaching record being a cut above every other candidate, something he could not possibly have known unless he had read every application personally. He also let it be known that he had not applied for the post of DAFC manager, which to some supporters indicated that he had his sights set on higher things and that we were a fall back for him.

None of the above would matter very much if we were sitting near the top of the table and playing some decent football but we’re not. So Peter Grant made a rod for his own back.

What exactly is the problem applauding after a defeat or more specifically not booing/shouting abuse? To be honest I don't want Grant here as manager but even when we lose I still, more often than not, appreciate the effort the players put in, even when we lose.

I also recognize that some players can have a good game even when we don't win, like DT during the week.

I applauded them off after the Thistle game. We were crap in the main but they were putting a shift in and clearly low on confidence. I know what it's like on more than one occasion to be trying my best but failing due to a combination of factors. It's miserable. I think we forget sometimes that while we're fans and they're not, it's still their career and focal point of their lives. Being bottom of the league must be rotten for players and coaches alike, especially when it's not as if we're much worse than the rest of them.

The statement was badly worded but I thought it had been established that it was referring to incidents that had taken place away from the matches and involved abuse aimed at the chairman by a small minority of fans? I don`t think it`s particularly toxic before & during the games to be honest. I think the support has been quite good, although I`ve not been to any away games this season. Afterwards there`s been a few shouts directed at Grant but I`ve seen/heard miles worse.

All grants comments about winning the league,I didnt apply for the job,my cv would blow the rest of them out of the water comments etc, have come back to bite him where the sun don`t shine.
That and playing a system imposed on the players which didn`t work has us in the position we are in now.Since going back to the the defensive system we played last season it has steadied the ship but hasn`t brought us any wins..We as Pars supporters want a successful team playing decent football whoever the manager is.
In my opinion he has two games left one on Saturday against Arbroath and our home game against Morton. Be very surprised if losing these two games he would still be manager.

That sounds like they started it so I'm going to be hostile as I like towards them.

Bigbeefcake says "part time Arbroath are odds on to beat us on Saturday".

Part time Arbroath are playing out of their skin just now and would be favourites to beat anyone in this league on their own patch. The victory against Inverness away was probably the most impressive result for them in a decade or more.

Everyone was putting three goals past us at that point, nothing impressive about it IMO.

I've made it abundantly clear that I don't think Grant is the right man for the job, but I don't think he's a bad person or a bad guy, I bet he's good company. I just don't want him to be the manager of the team I support.

In their first season in the Championship 2 years ago Arbroath beat both Dundee Utd and Inverness away from home.

I condone anyone who uses violence against the club regardless of the situation but didn`t the statement also have a go at the fans at the queen of the south game ?

That`s what l was referring to.

Not a bad wee team then, Arbroath. Might be a sign of better things to come if we can beat them tomorrow.

Nah it didn't, the presumption made at the time of the statement was that it was referring to incidents at the QoTS game, however it then became apparent it was about incidents outwith the stadium.

You might also want to edit that, I presume you meant to say you don't condone.

Personally have a lot of sympathy for Grant and Crawford.

Whilst they both secured the position, I think we can agree that neither had really demonstrated the credentials to merit the job….however the Board offered them the job, Grant in particular didn’t even apply. That’s not their fault, they’d naturally jump at the opportunity.

Crawford tbh went above my expectations with that unbeaten run, was curious how he’d do this season.

So what we’ve done is hire managers that wouldn’t cut it and now proposing firing Grant because….he couldn’t cut it, is it really that surprising what we’re seeing on the pitch. I’d say not and I don’t think we’ve done well by Grant in the way this appointment happened.

I’ll continue to back Grant whilst he’s the manager, he should’ve left by now but the Board have stuck by him, and he is improving, one loss in the last seven is progress…but we need to start winning.

To be fair at majority of home matches I’ve been to, the fans have been great, even when we fall behind.

It’s the aftermath on here, it gets a bit boring seeing the same threads each game week, the moment we go one down it starts, it is OTT.

I think we are all in agreement the season hasn’t gone as expected and that no one is happy with the way things are going but the guys a human being, bit of respect is in order.

Looks like there is an appetite for a bit of humanity and respect at East End Park. Not before time. A large majority of fans at the games display the same attributes. Let`s keep supporting the players and management while they`re trying their best to salvage something from the season and look forward to better times.

As this is a football forum, I was thinking that if I had to select a team of 11 posters, based not on their footballing ability, but the way they put their points across on here, Berry would be one of the first names on my team sheet every week. 🙂 If only some on our reactionary posters would take a leaf out of his book.

With regard to the manager, I can't deny I'm a bit surprised he's still with us. I thought his position had become untenable some weeks ago, but the BoD are not given to knee jerk reactions and obviously wanted to give him time to try and turn things around. While we're not exactly racing up the table, recent results are a marked improvement on the miserable sequence in the early stages of the campaign. Like a few others, I think the BoD may have a rethink if we're still winless after the Morton game, so PG must be under severe pressure to win today and/or next week.

Whether you like the manager or not, you have to hope he can deliver. My Geordie pal told me a while back that some Newcastle fans would have been prepared to see their team relegated if it meant getting rid of Steve Bruce and Mike Ashley. I couldn't ever think like that about my team.

You have to remember that a lot of the posters are pally pally with the board/club so it’s not unusual that they don’t want to upset their pals by giving an honest opinion. A bit like Gary Neville with his pal Ole.

.net is not representative of the Pars fans in general, monitored heavily by the club and only a few people post on here regularly trying to push their agenda.

All game the fans are behind the team, despite the fact they don`t get the credit they deserve considering the football they are being served up.

And as for saying we will pull well clear of relegation as if it is some type of achievement, Give it a rest!

Agree.

I`d bet there`s no-one from the chairman down who`s happy with results or performances atm.

Given the way we can gloat over other team`s forums having a go at each other - Falkirk, Rovers etc - it`s quite sad to see the way some posters comment on here. Not the criticism, but the vitriol. A wee bit of support goes a long way - great support on Tuesday, just what`s needed and the away fans are usually right behind the team.

Being a Pars fan is always a rollercoaster - Thick and Thin

The flip side is that we`ve been fan owned for 8 years or so and it`s never been easier, if willing, to get involved with your club - whether it is arranging fan displays, initiatives through the school, helping out on matchday etc.

If you give up your time to help, it is likely that you have dealings with the people that run the club on a daily basis and have some idea how much work they do in ensuring that things function on an ongoing basis. They`re therefore less likely to get abusive and personal just because they may have picked the wrong manager - or to be more correct, played a part in picking the wrong manager.

I love it when we go sell Kevin Nisbet,
He's gonna pay for everyone this season.

My investnent in the club has spanned 40 years in terms of being a supporter and paying my entrance fee at the turnstile. I have no other investment other than seeing the team and club flourish
