Having said that. I dont think they will rush it. After the last appointment they will want to be seen to take time to get it right.

I have little faith in anybody that just holds a SFA license which I think means squiddly squat convince me otherwise, most success is with experience at the helm or at least within a trio of management.
It`s hard for anyone to really know the best candidate outside the game who has special skills of regrouping a team and build up the team spirit. I personally think the John Robertson, Paul Smith, Stewart Petrie, Dick Campbell, are names that have me thinking and I would also take the hard working Brian Rice as part of a team but not convinced as manager.

I do believe that the correct decision has been made and that the Club now needs to undertake proper due diligence in the selection of a new head coach/ manager. For Peter Grant himself I am sad that he had to suffer such vitriol, as I honestly believe he is a genuine guy who worked tirelessly to get the results for the club and the fans. It was not to be and he moves on, he is a seasoned campaigner and the vicious abuse he suffered, on here and elsewhere, will not, I hope, deter him from achieving his ambitions. I also sincerely hope that there are no further sackings, it is enough for one person to lose his livelihood and all too easy for those on here to glibly call for the coaches to be summarily dismissed and lose their livelihoods as well.

Obviously I made my thoughts on Grant (as a manager) clear before. I didn’t think he was the right man and thought we should have got rid of him a while ago. I do think the board handled this poorly and let it go on too long.
However, we are where we are and the board have made the correct decision today. For that, they deserve credit. I don’t doubt that Grant has done everything with the best interests of the club at heart and has given his all. It’s time to move on though and hopefully the board can prove critics (including me) wrong, by making a great appointment here.
The season so far has been a disaster and the task for the interim team and the new manager (when appointed) is enormous. It’s important that we back whoever is in charge and really get behind the team over the next wee while.

It didnt work out at all with Grant, even with the law of averages thats one very poor stats been created with no benefits to anyone involved from top to bottom unless you had a few successful draw or lose bets 50/50 chance.

A black card that FollowFollow would be proud of. Surely we can accept opposing fans on the forum ?

What happens if new man doesn't win any of his 11 league games
I’d imagine if there was progress he would get more time as it isn’t his duds he’s putting out on the park it’s PG’s Stupid question really.

I agree, the new man will need to be given time to bring his own players in. If he can sign a few players in January then he has to get to the end of the season. If he’s isn’t able to strengthen the squad in January, he will need to get to the first quarter of next season at least.

That seems a very generous honeymoon period you`re prepared to put up if things don`t work out when you consider the Grant Out posts were appearing after two league games. What`s the difference - apart from tha the new man isn`t Peter Grant?

I think it was down to how Grant was appointed with actual applicants being ignored...if due diligence us done in appointing the new guy there should be hopefully a bit more good will.

Bannerpar’s comments are pertinent…..and bang on.
No way will fans give any manager that long, if results are deemed “not good enough”

Don't think we have done for a while. Banter from opposing fans is not allowed apparently.

I mean, no wins in the last 14 competitive fixtures for a team who were 'challenging' for the championship title is not good enough... More than just the results, Grant harked on about the attractive football we were going to play, which we never showed any signs of producing through his reign.

I think it was also the manner of the early defeats. They were complete car crashes caused by poor tactics and team selection which made the fans lose all confidence

Maybe for some but I'd think the fact we were so horrifically bad in those opening games was more significant.
Stuff about the recruitment process, the board, his interviews, his record only really gets traction because of poor results and performances.

The new manager is also having to deal with sorting out Grants woeful signings, which will give them some leeway.
If results are still poor, there will of course be grumblings - it's the nature of the job - but they'll be given time to sort things out by the vast majority.
Given the way Grant was appointed and his previous track record, he needed to start strong to convince people. Poor signings, poor results, woeful performances all meant that many peoples early fears were realised.
Hopefully the board have learned their lesson.

In fairness, Grant could have been a great appointment. He had part-timers playing well despite a tight budget. He was available for nothing and was happy to keep the existing coaching team. Sounds too good to be true.
However, you could have said the same about the likes of Dick Campbell (his part-timers may not play slick but they don't get relegated!). For transparency, I wouldn't have had Dick in. I think he'd do a good job, but I'd rather someone who would be here a good while. Perhaps that was the board thinking too? However, I would have still invited CVs and spoken to people. How do we know Petrie wasn't interested? Perhaps a combo of Campbell and Petrie could have been an option with agreement that Campbell hands over the reigns after a couple of seasons or when he decides he fancies retiring to somewhere warm?

Arbroath, as I recall, just survived last season. They were no great shakes. My impression was that they didn`t make wholesale changes but kept the basic framework of last season`s team just adding sparingly to strengthen what was already there. What we did was the opposite of that, starting the season with almost a whole new team and expecting them to succeed. Then when we eventually reverted to what was near enough last year`s team you could understand that most of those who had earlier been dropped found it much harder to dig themselves out of the hole of other people`s making.

Arbroath had a very poor start last season. Only 5 points from the first 9 games. They turned it around with excellent results in the 2nd 9 games by bringing in a couple of players on loan in the January window. They were well clear of Alloa by the end of the season.

They did that without changing their manager and are now reaping the benefits this season. But as a part time team understandably, their aspirations may not have matched ours and their patience has seemed to pay off at this stage.

I think the difference being that Campbell had already won League 2 and League 1 and finished 5th the year before in the Championship. Rightly had the full support of the board and the fans. Arbroath would have been aiming to finish 8th last year so certainly lower expectations. I think if Grant had been successful at the club over a number of years he would have got more time but you can't say your aiming to win the league and then not win a game in 12 and expect to still have your job.

Yes, the Arbroath game was the last straw but I reckon PG wasn`t helped by making wholesale changes and expecting those he had sidelined to remedy the situation. It looked like fon Willams in particular had a very bad game.

Not one of Grants signings of course but he didn't bring in good players either
