One of Big Jock`s most inspirational signings for Celtic in 1965.
R.I.P.

RIP Bertie Auld, a great player and very instrumental in Celtic`s success. However after he broke Jim Fraser`s leg in that fantastic win at Parkhead in the Scottish Cup, he was never my favourite player.

He was a fine player, but undoubtedly also a wee thug. He also "did" Alex Edwards in another game at Parkhead.
Time to let go when they go up to that Big Fitbaw Stadium in the Sky, though.
R.I.P. Bertie.
Not your average Sunday League player.

There was no leg break, despite it being a horrendous tackle.

I always remember Simpson Craig Gemmill Murdoch McNeil Clark, Johnstone Wallace Chalmers AULD and Lennox as probably the best Scottish team of all time and all Scots too. Bertie was the first player I ever saw taking the ball to the corner flag to run down the clock, which is a thing I hate to see. Good teams don`t need to do that. Better to trust in your own ability to defend or in fact attack and try and kill the game off by notching another goal

There is a guy from Crosshill Born just after the lisbon lions remarkable win, his Dad gave him 12 middle names, the first middle name being Stein.
Only 4 of them left now. IMHO the greatest sporting achievement EVER in Scottish sport

Great player and great character. Mind you he broke my heart with the cup final goal.
Also had a place in the famous Scottish line-up Ure, Auld, Bauld and Grey. Weir, Young and Speedie.

Bertie was in Celtic`s reserve side the Saturday of the 1961 cup final - he was transferred to Birmingham City just after the replay.
His debut for them was the first leg of Inter Cities final that year, making him the first Scot to play in a Euro final.
