By far the most complete performance I`ve even seen from Scotland. Every player was perfect. I had a right moan when Armstrong came on but his pass for Adams goal was excellent! Very proud of the team tonight and it just shows what Steve Clarke has created. Gradually we have gained belief, confidence and starting to play some excellent football. That will boost our FIFA ranking also as the Danes are currently 10th in the world. Very very chuffed!
Nightmare to see Italy and Portugal in the playoffs - no doubt we`ll get them if we make the final! I just wish I could relax watching us. Even playing so well, I can`t settle!

Someone I wasn`t keen on getting the Scotland job Clarke has simply done a phenomenal job in turning our fortunes around.
We still have a mountain to climb but anything is possible the way we can play. We finished this tourney with record points. A fantastic record and some world class performances from our players.
We surely have managed to secure a home play off place Portugal also finish on 17 points, Holland, Switzerland and Turkey can still all finish in 1st place in their group tomorrow. They have 20 -18 -18 points respectively. Wales can finish on 17 points with a win tomorrow against Belgium. They or Czech Republic will enter play offs regardless alongside Austria via league of nations.
Confirmed in play-offs: Italy, North Macedonia, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Scotland, Sweden
Can still finish runners-up in group: Czech Republic*, Finland, Ukraine, Wales*
*qualify via league of nations rankings

World Cup play-off draw is 26 November in Zurich at 4pm UK time. Games are 24/25 March 2022 for semi-finals, winners progress to finals on 28/29 March. Semis and finals both one-legged. Scotland seeded for semi so play at Hampden. A draw then decides final venue.

When I seen Grant Hanley getting back in the team under Clarke , my first thought was we were scraping the bottom of the barrel, Only to find He has turned into a decent center half.
Then I was worried we would struggle big time without him the last 2 games. Clarke calls brings in Paterson, Cooper and Hendry against Moldova, Then John Soutter tonight.
This isn't a good team anymore, Clarke has assembled a Squad that has real Depth all over the park

The poor treatment of migrant workers in Qatar has been a scandal for some time, one that has only received attention due to the upcoming World Cup. Had England been successful in hosting the tournament and embarked on a stadium building programme I doubt we would be hearing anything about the long standing problems faced by construction workers in Qatar.
If the World Cup helps to highlight the issue then well and good, but there is a suspicion that in the English media particularly a dog in the manger attitude underlies this sudden concern for the indentured worker. The Guardian article mentioned the fees paid to acquire work in Qatar but might have mentioned the fact that a signed exit certificate from the employer is required to leave the country, or was when I worked there. I heard stories of workers who had allegedly built up debt and had not been allowed back to their homeland or families for some years. Stories of nannies (the Qataris often employ one nanny per child) being mistreated were commonplace. The construction workers I came across lived in portacabins and were banned from some shopping centres at weekends since their presence disturbed the local women.
Boycotting the World Cup would be unlikely to improve the lot of the migrant worker in Qatar. He was treated like a serf before the WC was awarded and will continue to be so unless there is strong political pressure placed on a country which the west considers ‘our friend.’ Threat of a boycott would embarrass the Qatar regime for sure but they are rich enough to shrug that off and find another PR outlet. Only trade sanctions and the threat to buy oil and gas from another source will change attitudes in Qatar.

Given the selection process for both Russia and Qatar was totally corrupt, the WC should have been taken away from those countries, but it didn't happen because FIFA would have been hit with multi millions in compensation claims.
The award to Qatar, in particular, is a disgrace. A desert country, with conditions which are inhumane for playing football, in addition to the disgraceful conditions the migrant workers who have helped to build the stadia, have been forced to endure.
Not your average Sunday League player.

the view from villa is that mcginn plays a more central midfield role which doest` really suit him as much as playing off the attacking line as he did for Scotland last night
they`re hoping that Gerrard has been watching how Clarke uses him and gets him playing at that level in the EPL
here`s a typical post from villa talk:
(someone had mentioned Gerrard changed the captain when he went to the rangers)
The McGinn of 2021 isn`t even a guaranteed starter for me never mind having the armband. The Mcginn of Scotland 2021 probably would be our captain.
Lets hope Stevie can get the latter playing for us.

Need to say I like this format. More teams having to wait until the final game to qualify. Wales Vs Belgium game was a cracker. It`s been a tough campaign but enjoyable from a fans perspective. Play Offs is the element I don`t agree with league of nations qualifying for world cup qualifers. The play Offs should be based on the qualifying position in groups. 2 highest in points get a bye to the final

The Nations League has a meaning though - which is much better than the previous situation where you had half full stadiums watching turgid friendlies with 40 players getting a cap over the 90 minutes.
Also, it gives the smaller teams a chance. North Macedonia qualified for the Euros by winning Nations League D and equipped themselves reasonably well in the tournament, especially in the first two games. They`ve then kicked on, beating Germany away from home in the World Cup qualifiers and making it to the play-offs.
