The ref was just on Sportsound. They were concerned about one corner of the pitch but wanted to let it settle for the game to go ahead which is why they left it as late as possible. But after forcing the ball down several times in that particular area it just didn’t improve.
He said it’s not a decision a ref likes to make - for travelling fans and teams.

BBC radio advised travelling fans to pull in and wait for a final decision.
The referee (Steven McLean ?) did an initial inspection at 1:30pm and gave ground staff an opportunity to remedy problem in one corner of the pitch.
At 2pm it was declared off after second inspection. A no win scenario for the officials.

Where were they to pull over guys ?
It`s around 120 miles, so if the game was called ON at 2.15 fans would have to be within 45 miles as it is 60 mph all the way down.
When it was called off they would have to be at least 80 miles into their journey.
Which is at best 160 miles round trip wasted

If travelling fans hadn`t heeded the BBC heads up then they would have wasted even more time and fuel having to retrace their steps over a longer distance return journey.
Being wise after the event is 20-20 vision.

Not saying BBC is wrong Vet, my argument is the SFA should reimburse travelling fans when games are called off so late

Not clear on how the SFA could be held responsible for an unplayable pitch in the prevailing conditions today.

Weather is unpredictable, when we left today it was snowing, then hit the bridge and monsoon until Bathgate, M8 at 45mph.
After that nothing, no way clubs should be penalised for late call off in winter months, we just have to accept bad weather.
Last Friday I had Partick tickets but decided not to travel, my choice.

Why would the SFA reimburse fans for a competition they don`t even run. Call offs are part of football. The earlier the better but if the ref thought they could get it playable it`s understandable to try.

Even it were implemented (no chance) - how would it be administered ?
A chancer`s dream - in this scenario half of Dingwall would claim travel costs for imaginary trips.
