Is it time for the carrot or stick? TBH I`m no` a fan o` the stick in these circumstances. so what aboot the carrot, i.e bonuses.
If we are relegated, it`ll cost us huge amounts of dosh. As a complete ball park guess, say, half a million, maybe more. Should we earmark at least half that much to share out in bonuses if we stay up?

The players have been terrible, they should be doing more than staying up with their current pay packet, don`t deserve any more.
8th place would be good but still an abject failure

I`m not sure if putting the boot in would bring the desired results. I think it`d be better to keep the feeling that we`re all pulling together and in it to the end, rather than risk disgruntlement. I don`t think the threat of punishment would be an incentive, or helpful when what we need is to try and get the players fully focused, and playing at their best.
I`d say to them, `We`ve had a hard season so far, but we`ve got to make even more effort if we`re to succeed in our aim to stay in this league. Think Ernest Shackleton. The best chance we have of beating this, is by digging in - lay aside every negative thought and feeling - focus on what`s to be done.`
Ernest Shackleton is my model for getting through the toughest of times.
