 North West Fans
Topic Originator: Stanza
Date:   Sat 19 Mar 12:24

The fans in the NW were magnificent last night, they sang and waved the flags for virtually the whole game. And huge plaudits to Jason and his team for mounting that display - I know they had some major last-minute delivery problems.

Shame about the minor pitch invasion at the goal, but it seemed to be dealt with sensibly by the stewards.

The fans also gave Owen Miller and the other disabled athletes a great reception at half-time in the CAFE Week of Action parade with Jim Leishman. It was hugely appreciated by all involved.

On the other hand they were wanting their fiver back at one point but maybe that was in response to the linesman`s flag at O`Hara`s goal.

Whilst I agree in the most part that they created a great atmosphere I don’t think we can forget about the number of flags thrown in the linesman’s direction on a number of occasions.

And the pitch invasion? Well that done nothing but prevent play from restarting.

Agree with LMCK67, can’t argue they bring some life to EEP and they annoyed me last night with some of their antics tbh. Pitch invasion - stupid, throwing flags - stupid, booing Yogi at the end - stupid. Need to learn how to handle your Buckfast better boys!

Ach, the pitch invasion would`ve done us out of about ten seconds, I hope the young lads had a class bounce around, tell there mates and all come to the next game, credit to Jason for getting the display organised.

I`m with the OP -the fans in the NW flag waving section were brilliant and gave me a good laugh when they started singing "We want our fiver back."

I was in the main stand, but I imagine the group consisted mainly of kids, so I`d cut them some slack `re the mini "pitch invasion" and any flags being chucked in the assistant refs direction. They were obviously caught up in the emotion of the game.

Nobody was injured but they should be told that that`s not on.

One member of the security team was helped along the front of the Norrie after she had clearly been injured during the pitch invasion.

I’ve no idea the extent of the injury. But she looked fairly shaken up.

Terrible that she got hurt but if it’s been one of the saltire security staff then it’s no surprise really they seem to be totally clueless when it comes to stuff like basic crowd control sure it was the killie game at home first half of the season that 3 of them thought that standing on the first stairwell in the NW was a good idea

It’s typical of the Stewards in that part of the ground though as soon as any of them look to be building a good rapport with the fans they get punted to another part of the ground and they chuck what is effectively rookies into the deep end

Remind me what it is to become a Pars fan again DBA? I’ve been supporting the club for just under 30 years now and can’t remember having to act like a Danny Dyer wannabe to earn my status as a fan. A mini pitch invasion for an equaliser against Morton - it was embarrassing to watch tbh. Some of them even run the full length of the NW to shout some abuse at the away end, the mind boggles!

I don’t deny it’s good we have them, cause the main stand and the Norrie offer nothing in terms of atmosphere, but if they’ve annoyed me the other night then just leave me to be annoyed, not interested in being told I’ve forgotten what it is to be fan.

Some of the ones you’re on about must be about 15/16 years old. It’s natural to be a wee fud at that age. The new young team have been brilliant this season, imagine how good they would be if we were winning every week..

I think it`s fair to both appreciate them and encourage them not to celebrate an equaliser against Morton by going on the pitch - or hurl flags at the linesman.

If they continue to throw things at linesmen the police will lift them.

If they invade the pitch they should be removed from the stadium.

If they break the seat like they have done against Morton - they should be banned for life by the club.

I’m all for the young lads supporting the team, making an atmosphere, but it’s not the late 80s. They are not a “firm” the above behaviour is in no way acceptable, and should be stamped out. It is not appropriate in any setting these days, let alone at a club that portrays itself as a family club.

It`s not a case of vilifying the NW fans. It`s a case of calling them out on sh*tty behaviour.

If you were walking down the high street and someone done something that others disagreed with and half the high street starting throwing things towards them I don`t doubt you would call it out. Just because it`s in a football stadium doesn`t make it acceptable....regardless of how they behaved for the other 89 minutes or how much atmosphere they created.

as DA-GO said, there is absolutely nothing wrong with appreciating them and yet calling them out for other things.

Going on to the pitch can have reprecussions for DAFC, likwise throwing objects near officials.

Does the club no favours.

Pointing that out is hardly vilifying the support in the NW.

Well done to the NW last night, gave constant backing to the players, even managed to get the Norrie fans involved

Would it not be fantastic to see the flags etc at every game?

The heritage trust had some dialogue with Jason offering to finance some flags as long as they had some relevance to the clubs history, perhaps we can pick this up again

The lads in the NW sometimes get a little carried away but we have to remember that they are young lads in the main and should be cut some slack. Throwing items at the officials is a bit too far though

I always wonder why the linesman has to be in front of the NW could the not swap them round and let him be in front of the NE? With the other guy being in front of the SW

I`m not usually a lover of drums and chants and "here we, here we, here we fkn go" at gigs but these guys are giving us a leg up right now. The atmosphere they create is fantastic & apart from a few isolated incidents are definitely a positive in this pretty rancid season. I was 13 when i caught the Pars bug & I hope these few hundred apprentices have caught it too.

Pity the club went over the top and barriered off the front.
Amazing that Motherwell and St Mirren (to name just 2) can have their fans in the section closest to the away fans, but we can`t seem to be able to accommodate our fans the furthest section away, without some sort of issue.
The young guys need to keep up the good work 👍 been a while since there was a decent atmosphere.
The club should be trying to encourage it imo.

I think the Section NW fans have been good all season but outstanding the last 2 home games. They have created a decent atmosphere. Great to see the NW sold out against Morton but equally good to see it relatively busy when full price against Thistle. Hopefully it continues to grow and receives the full backing of the Club.

Club can get fined. They won’t though. It’s literally one or two people jumping over the wall then straight back over (pointless, I know). It happens on a bigger scale almost every week in the premiership & nothing is done.

I doubt that the club will be fined but the club will be hit financially by the policing bills for the next 2 crucial games. These charges can be extortionate. Good atmosphere - yes, but as always a few cretins ruin it.

Again, I doubt that. Last night was a huge fixture, with high potential for crowd trouble. I’d be amazed if there is any more than a handful of police for the QOTS/Ayr games, even taking into consideration last nights events. Happy to be proved wrong.

The drawback of sharing the videos online means that it helps with investigations by police and club re the smoke bomb being lobbed on to the pitch which halted play, and the flare set off within the NW stand.

Not sure of the legalities but if you’ve sneaked in these devices to use then that means questions have to be asked of the match day security never mind the individuals who brought them.

There was no need, whatever you think of them - or how they’re dealt with at other clubs - but could potentially lead to the club having to pay a fine.

I thought the lads in the North West were brilliant last night, backed the team from start to finish and made some noise, created a great atmosphere. Probably the main mistake that the club has made in recent years has been to vilify the guys in that stand, Ross McArthur seem to be on his high horse with a statement about them whenever any of them so much as ate their crisps too loudly.
Folk need to realise that we can be as family friendly, inclusive as you like, but our target market should be guys like these who actually turn up week in, week out and spend their hard earned cash on the club they love. They go, have a good time, and tell their mates, you can see their numbers swell, it`s great to see.
Maybe there will be the odd fine, but it`s a price worth paying to bring the atmosphere

“The Scottish champions were handed a fine of €16,000 (£13,378) following a hearing of UEFA`s Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body.

Lazio were fined €9,250 (£7,734) for their fans setting off fireworks and throwing missiles in the same game, which ended in a 2-1 win for Celtic.

It is the fourth fine Celtic have received for crowd behaviour this season. They were fined €12,500 (£10,450) for incidents against AIK in Sweden and €15,000 (£12,540) for banners and chanting in the home tie against Lazio.”

St Johnstone, last year:
”St Johnstone have closed a section of McDiarmid Park for Thursday’s Euro crunch with LASK after being hit with a €3000 UEFA fine for pyrotechnics at the recent Galatasaray clash.”

There’s loads of press stories about clubs - and fans - being fined.

Those fans were brilliant , but they should root out the individuals who are going to drag their reputation into the mud .
Have a word guy`s .
The eejits who throw flares and cups of hot (I assume ) liquid on to the pitch do you no credit .

Have you seen the displays in question? You can’t compare Celtic or lazio (can’t even believe I’m typing that) to a smoke bomb in a Scottish championship game. All those fines were from uefa.

The SFA have not and cannot fine clubs, as clubs haven’t agreed to strict liability. Fines dished out by UEFA for fan behaviour are not relevant to what could happen following a Scottish championship match.

I like the section NW guys. I agree the flares are unnecessary and the cup thrown onto the pitch was stupid. But in general, I think they’ve been brilliant.

Completely agree par 91

The young lads are brilliant and inject a bit of real atmosphere into the game.

Negates any travelling support noise as well which is ideal

I was more annoyed at the wee tube who threw on the drink as we were about to take a corner, what is that all about?

Also - it really is still amateur hour at east end trying to get folk in the turnstiles. Is it really so hard to have a steward hold an iPod or similar like they do at other grounds at let in gates when there is a queue? No, what we’ll do is create a massive queue that then backs up against the Norrie, and make folk wait 10 minutes to get in from the peeing rain. Was the same v Morton. We don’t half make things difficult for our own supporters sometimes. When we going to see any impact of the new CEO to the general matchday experience…?

I stand in a queue like you describe every other Saturday. It`s caused by fans still not knowing how to scan their ticket/season ticket after all these months.

From the SFA Ground Guidelines:
“11. The following articles MUST NOT BE BROUGHT INTO THE GROUND prohibited weapons, knives, fireworks, smoke canisters, air-horns, flares, weapons, dangerous or hazardous items, laser devices, bottles, glass vessels, cans, poles and any article that might be used as a weapon and/or compromise public safety. It is an offence punishable by law and Unacceptable Conduct for any person to enter or attempt to enter the Ground whilst in possession of any article which is a firework or any article or substance whose purpose or any part of its purpose is the emission of a flare for purposes of illuminating or signalling or the emission of smoke and/or gas and any person in possession of such articles will be refused entry to the Ground and if having entered, to expulsion from the ground and such other sanction as may be determined by the Club/Event Organiser and reported to the Police.”

“I agree the flares are unnecessary and the cup thrown onto the pitch was stupid. But in general, I think they’ve been brilliant.”
No one is saying otherwise. I’ve already expressed my thoughts on the NW faithful earlier in this thread.

Not sure why my post has been highlighted twice - I merely provided information re fines having been issued at matches, in relation to what Bamba literally wrote “It happens on a bigger scale almost every week in the premiership & nothing is done.”

There was one kid sitting near to me last night who was brilliantly funny and would have woke up this morning with the hangover from hell - he went missing at half time - his old man then found him and sat him next to him and his wife for the second half and spent most of the time trying to get him `not to spoil it for everyone else` the young kid was absolutely hilarious arguing back and then all of a sudden he spotted `the most beautiful lass he`d ever seen` and attention from the game was distracted.

The kid had such enthusiasm, sang every word, clapped every tackle and through out random expletives at the rovers fans whenever the passion over took him.

25 years ago I was that kid... brilliant to see

This so many times even spotted or rather heard a wee lad he could mibby only have been 2 and a half mibby 3 years old walking back to the car park with presumably his mum and his grandad singing watching athletic putting on a show word for word so clearly section north west is having an impact on our younger fans even if they do tend to go over the score a wee bit

Come on ye pars ⚽️

Partly - but then any operator worth their salt would be working in ways to reduce queuing and to me it seems a really simple fix

These lads are a credit to the club home and away and you can se how much the players appreciate it.

The cup getting thrown on at the corner was booed by most of these lads just 1 idiot and DT and the rest of the fans in that area let him know it.

I know the chairman has condemned these fans in the past but any new regime should embrace then just ask the players what difference they make.

Agree with Parsman post re the queues the other night, I queued 30mins to get into the NW and missed the first 15 mins of the game. Queuing 30mins to get into a 5,000 person football crowd is absolutely ridiculous! Not sure how the club expects to increase our weekly gate or encourage people to return if that’s the match day experience we offer. I’ll be emailing the club over the weekend once I get a spare 15mins to share my thoughts.

An easy solution would be to open more turnstiles and let those with paper tickets just walk through the large gates immediately to reduce queue sizes. I’m sure they’ve heard it all before but why not act on it for bigger gate sizes. I thought Germans were famous for their match day experience!

The issue isn’t people, any numpty can scan a barcode - you don’t see people struggling in Asda when scanning their shopping, the problem is the technology being used, it clearly isn’t good enough to quickly read the barcodes and differentiate between the variables - season tickets, paper tickets and e-tickets.

Re the `matchday experience` when I see a programme-seller I like to buy a programme and a couple of 50/50 tickets. I`ve only bought two programmes this season.

The last time I was aware of the situation with our turnstile operators they were volunteers, is this still the case?

Anytime there is a bigger than average crowd it’s an absolute shambles to get into the NW. giving even 3 stewards a hand held scanner would cut the queue in half.

no such thing as turnstyle operator now. All barcode scanning/automated. Multiple issues with phone brightness etc where scanners notpicking up. I`ve swiped in no issue the games ive been too but had to queue from Middle of Norrie stand at Partick game and then was 4/5 back in the queue on wed and took the person a good 5mins to scan and get through meaning the queue had backed around the corner to the Norrie from just 1 issue with a ticket. 25mins before kick off.

Fans in the NW have been brilliant and created a good atmosphere in the ground. Surely this is something the Club want to work with and engage with? Given the marketing background of Damir Keretic and the innovative stuff David Cook was credited with at Nottingham I would have thought they would be trying to build on this? In the near future you could fill the whole North Stand with Pars fans?

When was the last time the NW was sold our prior to the Raith and Morton games? That said it’s barely half full at kick off which highlights what a shambles it is to get in? Given there is a good chance that we will have similar crowds for Ayr and a queens this needs sorting pronto.

Mon the Pars!!!!!!!!!!!

What`s confusing is the website showed the North West stand as sold out. Same with Morton game. But it clearly wasn`t full. Anyone know why that is?

Quite a few season ticket holders maybe couldn’t make the fixture with it being midweek. Plus maybe a few unable to attend coz of covid.

It was near enough full. I thought this at first as well but there was a lot of people standing at the back of the stand as well and in the first half the stair well was full of people. So had all these people been sat in the spare seats there would only have been the Odd spare seat which would be season tickets who couldn`t attend.
