Confirmed in the Daily Record this morning that he`s signed a pre contract with Queens Park, and wasn`t played against them due to a conflict of interest.

He should have been placed on leave as any other employer would have been. To be sitting in the dressing room if this was known is a huge leap in faith in the lads integrity and one he should not have been subjected to.
Let’s see if this transpires but I find it very odd that if he did sign a pre contract, that he would be allowed to have this conflict of interest.

You despise someone for choosing to change employer, without even knowing the reason?
Why should he be committed to a team he has no ties to?

At least he was honest . I’m not sure that he had to even disclose it ?? Regardless I would have been playing him. Too important to our team this year and he wasn’t about to deliberately sabotage us. Slightly paranoid thinking there.

I hope queen`s go up through the play-offs, they clearly have money to throw around.

Can see why the manager would question how much work he`d put into those matches. If queen`s win the play off Thomas will be in the championship next year. Still doesn`t make it right.

As much as there’s every chance this is true, it’s also not unheard of for the media to take info from these forums and release it as ‘news’.

If he has indeed signed a pre-contract, good on him and I wish him the best. It explains why he wasn’t involved in the playoffs, but you can’t blame the guy for looking out for his own career and getting out of this club.

He was contracted to us but clearly put our manager in a position where he couldn`t be played in our most important game of the season. He`s probably our most talented player and we`ve just been relegated. Other players are accused of being lazy, showing no fight or passion etc but at least Chalmers, Lawless etc played the 90 minutes whereas Thomas gets wished well on his way after making himself unable to be selected

I`ve no problem with him "looking after himself" but the way he`s done this stinks. There was a lot of anger directed at Hughes at the end of the game & not having Thomas on the pitch at all was probably responsible for a lot of it. Turns out the player gave the manager no choice.

Thomas would have been in an untenable position if he’d played.

Imagine if contributed to a Pars win - his new club denied the opportunity to contest the playoff for promotion and potentially for himself in the Championship next season.

That would really have endeared him to QP and their support…….something that would be held against him indefinitely I reckon.

Or he might have been minded to do a “Barry Mitchell” on us - which would have soured his departure from EEP and his reputation as a professional.

Putting him on the bench - where is the logic in that ?

I completely disagree. I reckon it would show the very highest level of professionalism which would/should be applauded. Even the QP fans would have to agree if they really thought about it

It`s pretty standard to sign a pre contract, good luck to the guy.

To compare this to Watson is not the same, he sacked himself basically.

Professional athletes must be extremely focussed as it is fine margins between success and failure and it is clear to me that if this is true Dom should not have been in the stadium for the two games against Queens Park. I like him and still like him as a player and the modern world of football allows for such situations to arise, but the club, if they knew, should have removed this conflict of interest to protect both the club and the individual from any such discussions we are having.

Going to be controversial but I am not even that bothered TBH. On his day, a great player, but that day is far and few between. Always seems to play well when the TV cameras are there. Seems to fall out (or least there has been an issue there) with every manager he`s worked under (Hibs, Crawford, Grant and Yogi) If he was really that good he would be in the team week in and week out, It`s easy for us to sit here and moan when he is not in the team but there clearly a lot that goes on behind the scenes.

Anyone who is not committed to rolling up the socks in league 1 to get us out the mess then they can leave IMO.

I`ve never really understood the point of PCAs. Hasn`t it been shown in the past that they`re not enforceable in any case? If I`d known he`d signed a PCA with QP I wouldn`t have expected him to be involved. You can name so many subs now that including him on the bench was hardly significant.

Another ridiculous blunder by the club, never mind being on the bench why was he in the stadium.

Knowing the guy Yogi is I can`t understand why he`s put DT on the bench. All the fans are furious with him because he didn`t bring him on, when in fact he had a good reason not to. I wish the club would be transparent with certain scenarios because the fans would be more understanding if told about it.

Do people believe that Dom signing a pre-contract means he’s the only player that had decided he didn’t want to be here next season? He is/was a Pars player and I’m sure he’d have given 100% if he was in the team.

Euan Murray signed a pre-contract with Killie last January and gave 100% for the rest of the season and kept the armband. Lee Ashcroft did the same with Dundee the year before and played (including a 2-0 win against Dundee). I doubt very many (if any) of our loan players plan to be here next year, should we just have refused to play them?

If Dom had played and not given 100%, he would be deserving of criticism and his professionalism would rightly be questioned. However, that didn’t happen, so he has done nothing wrong.

It`s really up to the manager as to whether the player was in the right frame of mind to play. Im guessing the answer to that was no, or at the very least Hughes didn`t think he was.

Could well be seeing him in League 1 next year anyway if he ends up going to QP, Airdrie can actually put the ball in the net unlike this pars team so they`ll be pretty strong favourites

Maybe he was on the bench because, arguably, he hasn`t kicked a ball since the 2-0 Rovers win.

Would fit in with others` views that you get 1 good game in 5/6.

But it`s all about Chalmers/Dorrans isn`t it? They`re to blame for our relegation.

He`s extremely talented at this level but seems to me he`d fall out with his own shadow.

Apologies for having the temerity to demur from your logic with a differing opinion.

There was a clear conflict of interest in Thomas` situation and he was in an untenable position, damned if he does and damned if he doesn`t - whatever way you wish to spin it.

The real "culprit" (as Wee Eck recognises) is the whole concept of pre contract agreements whilst the season is still in progress - how that is addressed is well above my pay grade.

I take issue with someone twisting my words to back their own argument. The situation with Nisbet is completely different as I have explained earlier.

Our most talented player, the one who could & should have carried us through these play-off games, has been posted missing for weeks & it`s now clear why. He`d signed for another team that just happened to be the team that relegated us. I don`t think that`s right. You think it`s perfectly fine. Let`s leave it at that, as I can`t be bothered discussing it anymore.

I don`t think Lee Ashcroft signed a pre contract with Dundee. He was out of contract but due to COVID and the pars reluctance to furlough or offer new terms at that time he was let go.

Yet another mistake by the board. They hid behind the legal uncertainty. As far as I am aware other teams that did furlough players have not been asked to pay the money back.

I accepted long ago that, under freedom of contract, players are mercenaries and I`m sure money plays a huge part in any move. You can`t blame them for that but what does annoy me is when a club invests a lot of time and money treating players when they have an injury which keeps them out of the game for some time, covers the cost of any necessary surgery, gets them back to full fitness and is then told the player is signing for someone else. That happened with Thomas and it was also the case with Euan Murray after he suffered that horrific head injury at Dumfries. Didn`t it also happen even before freedom of contract with George O`Boyle?

I don`t think Lee Ashcroft signed a pre contract with Dundee. He was out of contract but due to COVID and the pars reluctance to furlough or offer new terms at that time he was let go.

Yet another mistake by the board. They hid behind the legal uncertainty. As far as I am aware other teams that did furlough players have not been asked to pay the money back.

I was told in January 2020 he had agreed to join Dundee in the summer. Now, it could just be total coincidence that he ended up there, but it suggests to me that my info was correct.

Indeed, from what I heard at the time, a few of the players ‘released’ in May 2020 had rejected contracts with us and said they had no interest in staying pre-covid. Why should the club have shown that loyalty to them, when they had shown that lack of loyalty to the club?

He should have played end off. No different to numerous situations year after year , he is either a professional or not. I suspect he would have given his all regardless. Not a surprise he signed elsewhere given is lack of game time despite his obvious ability.

It is 100% different, do you think he will be on the same terms if they are in the Championship ?

A total conflict of interest, as soon as he declared it he should have been on leave.

No real reason to release him right away. You would have thought at that time that we would have overcome QP and would need all our better players including Dom for the final against Airdrie. I hope he wasn`t left out of the line up against QP just because of the conflict of interest. He was still under contract to Dunfermline who were paying his wages. Any self respecting professional would continue to do their best. They might have at least started with him and if he was having one of his off games they could have hooked him early.

Dom has undoubted ability but you have to wait several games at a time to see it, Grant had an issue with the defensive side of his game, he doesn`t seem to have found favour with Hughes either, so whilst he could change games he certainly isn`t consistent.

In any case how could you select a player who would could potentially benefit from Queens Park beating us, I can`t believe folk would have played him ?

If what`s posted above is true regarding the termination, it would seem the player had a better understanding surrounding the whole issues than our manager and a few on here.

It`s a crap move by QP in my opinion. He didn`t play so there`s accusations it weakened out team. If he did play and did badly he`d be accused of laying down to his new employer and shouldn`t have been on the pitch.

Personally, I`d have played him.

Who gives a toss about this man.

He joined us because Kilmarnock wanted rid of him. It’s alleged that we favoured him over Kyle Turner (big mistake) and has taken a wage from us for little return.

Many here use the word charlatan - he most certainly is. Good riddance to him and if he doesn’t go to Queens Park, let’s hope someone else takes him.

He should have played. If it was a conflict of interest, he shouldn’t have been on the bench. It’s just another shambles from the management and club.

Why is it that our club always have problems with players? Watson,Turner and Thomas?

Even Wilson was let go after injury but is good enough to play for a rival who stayed in the championship. Some awful decisions.

If Hughes was aware that he had signed a pre-contract with Queens, then having him on the bench makes no sense at all, it`s a clear conflict of interest for Dom if he had come on.

A lot of stuff the club have done recently is idiotic, so if this is the case, sadly I won`t be that surprised.

It`s a shame to see him go, yes undoubtedly a hot and cold player, like most wingers, but more interesting to have a guy that will try things than eleven players who are lukewarm most of the time. In a team that doesn`t create or score much, seeing your most creative midfield player leave is hardly something to get excited about. He did a decent job for us in the Championship, and maybe could have done even more in a better, more attack minded team. I think that`s probably about the highest level he can reach. Good luck to him, a guy that tried to entertain, a guy that always gave it his best even if wasn`t playing well and someone who showed some passion.

Agree with this.
Of course you have to respect his right to move on AFTER his obligations to us finished.
This smacks of a situation being engineered to disadvantage us in this year`s play off matches against the club who will be paying his wages next year. By not playing in games he was contracted for with us he`s no doubt increased his chances to earn more next year in the championship.
I can`t understand how (if true) so many people think this situation is ok cause it stinks.

I really don`t see how you can change rules regarding PCA.surely would be illegal under employment law.

Surely a player has the same rights as us to change employers.

You can`t expect someone to refuse this, and take his chances with the hundreds of other players who are due to be released in the coming weeks.

If it was me, I would jump at the chance.

There`s numerous players we have signed in these circumstances.

Tapping up players/managers is part and parcel in football, has always existed and always will.

Before anyone mentions what Fergie and Stein etc would do, and what they did back in the days, I can tell you, they would tap up players, and the players? They would bust a gut to engineer a better deal

He was injured and then started 7 of the last 8 league games - missing out at Thistle when we played 3-5-2. I think it`s fair to say he would have played a part.

I guess it is strange he was on the bench though, but you can name so many subs I suppose he might has well be there. There could have been an extreme set of circumstances where he could have needed to be pitched in.

This is what I’d heard about a month ago. So I was surprised to see the Queens Park story. Until something’s officially announced, it’s all just rumours. The Record will have picked up their info from forums like this and reported it as ‘news’.

Either way good luck to him, McCall has a great record with guys like this.

If it was me I would be punting my agent if he wasn`t touting me around my to try to get a decent deal

Pretty much every reasonable player is tapped up, there was no way he was staying with us anyway.

We`ve just been relegated, I`m not going to get in a tizzy if we don`t offer any new contracts and just get new players in, Thomas included, I`ve no idea why Hughes didn`t play him, or PG played him as a midfielder....

Very much of the same mindset as neils - I’m happy for as much of a ‘fresh start’ as possible. It’s what we needed to get out of this division last time as well.

I seem to remember AJ just releasing everyone out of contract when he came in - then not knowing who Joe Cardle was, when he asked to come in on trial…

23 goal involvements in 44 starts with us, some people have extremely short memories. Used as a CM by Grant, dropped, barely played for a month after he returned from injury and he still ended the season as our third top scorer and top assists by miles (7 for him, McCann was next on 2!)

The same comments were made when Ashcroft and Murray left, both been great for Dundee and Killie since whilst we have one of the worst defences in the league. When a player is streaky like Dom or goes missing in some games, that is where having squad depth and other contributing players is important, neither of which we had this season. He is totally justified to be moving on, good luck to him

If we run with the narrative that he has signed a pre-contract with Queen`s Park, we don`t know when he did that. If he wasn`t happy at the Pars, he had to fix something up for next season, so I`ve no issue with that.

He could have done it weeks ago for all we know - and then due to this quirk of fate, it turns out his current team have to play his future team in the play-offs. It`s unfortunate, and the management are damned either way, but really can`t play him in case he has a terrible game and we lose. I`m guessing he would have played and tried his best if asked, but it heaps pressure on everyone involved. They look especially daft if he manages to give away a goal or gets himself sent off.

If we`d scraped past and got to the final, 100% he plays against Airdrie. Gives him the chance to leave on a high and might mean he plays with complete freedom. Didn`t seem to do Hemmings and Stewart any harm back in 2014.

Da-go I guess it`s mostly the timing of it that I have an issue with so if it was agreed a few weeks ago like you say then I suppose it`s not as big a deal.

If it was around the time of the 2-legged tie with QP then I think that`s unacceptable as it puts everyone in an unfortunate position.

Personally, I have no doubts Dom would have given his all if he had played against QP.

Good question Parrot. Guy who told me he’d signed a PCA with partick intimated DT and yogi were not on great terms.

Wasn`t on great terms with Crawford, wasn`t on great terms with Grant, wasn`t on great terms with Hughes...there`s a link here somewhere but I just can`t quite see it.

I’d agree there Jake, DT clearly has an attitude problem and quite possibly an issue with authority.

Any evidence to back this up? Apart from rumours of `disagreements`?

If he had played, and the game had gone to pens, what then? He may have had to take one.

Not a healthy situation.

As mentioned earlier, if DT signed up for Partick - why was he not on the park from the kick off v QP ?

Dom was good every 4-5 matches and a player that failed to deliver time anc time again. Couldn’t care less who he signs for. Pars are going to rebuild and Thomas won’t be part of it.

Not sure stats would back that up. Even this season, he only started 16 games. He got a goal or an assist in 7 of those starts and there was at least one other game (Raith at home in March) that he played very well and was very influential. That’s 50% of starts that he was influential in, even before you account for the 2 games he started in that central midfield role under Grant and the fact he was playing through injury at the start of the season.

Once he returned from injury, we saw him tally up a goal and 3 assists in his first 2 starts. He was poor in game 3, then influential against Raith. Admittedly, he was poor in the next 2 games, but was the only player that really drove the team forward and tried to hurry things up all season and we really struggled when he wasn’t playing, or wasn’t on form.

He started 10 games at EEP this season, we scored 17 goals in those 10 games. We scored 5 in the 6 he didn’t. He was clearly one of the few players that actually had a good season. We definitely missed his positivity and attacking intent in the playoffs.

Having said that, I do agree that all that matters now is we’re building a new team and he isn’t part of it. I’d rather have a team of good players that perform well fairly consistently, than a team of poor players, with one very good player, that plays well around 50% of the time.

I was watching him quite closely in a couple of matches and one thing that did stand out was quite often he would get the ball in good wide positions and his natural reaction would be to attack. When he just went ahead a did this then quite often it ended up being a good attacking move which lead to something positive. All to often though, when he had a bit time to think about what he was doing, he would play it back, looking for the safe option to retain possession and all to often the momentum was lost. I don`t think this was the way Dom wanted to play, possibly the case he had been told they wanted him to retain possession rather than take a chance

This narrative of Thomas only being good every 3 or 4 games is (1) not true and (2) still a higher average than our team regardless!

Definitely think this was enforced by the manager, many times I was so frustrated that we would win the turnover and instead of gambling a few players forward at speed and hitting them on the counter when they were disorganised we would turn back and the opposition would reset into position.

Only times the Pars looked half decent all season was when the players were playing instinctively rather than how they were coached.

Some nonsense being spouted because he has chosen to move away

Its more about how effective a player is in my view raherr than what he does over tge 90 minutes in terms of running around. If he is perceived as a goal threat it will force the opposition to play a certain way. The game should always be about worrying what we do rather tgan the opposition to impose on the game. That is one of the less tangible benefits of Dom.

Someone queried his stinking attitude. I can state with absolute fact that the last couple of times he was subbed, the immature tantrums he threw were unbelievable. Throwing off top, throwing bottles off walls and kicking chairs, then sitting swearing and yelling like a petulant bairn. I’m sure that is all related.
