Extremely underwhelming.
Certainly will split the fans not unite them.
Can`t imagine a stampede for season tickets based on this appointment.

It`s a lot easier to boo whoever is appointed than it is to suggest a realistic alternative. I would have liked Kevin Thomson but apparently he couldn`t agree terms with the Rovers so was unlikely to fall within the budget of a League 1 club.

This is an appointment that the BoD can`t afford to get wrong again, lets hope he is the right man for the job, promotion this season and play offs the next.

Regardless of how you view his time at Dundee, it`s his one and only role in management and you can`t define a man from one go in the position.
Unfortunately how he is perceived by the general support is important and it looks like this might split them a bit.The greater the perception the more time it would buy him if things go wrong.
The positives, the turnaround has been quick he can crack on and deal with the contract issues at the club and his previous relationships with players might bring a better footballer to the team than a manager from a lower level.

"Who was his assistant at Dundee?"
taken from p&b
"He appointed Jimmy Nicholl as his assistant. Dave Mackay as first team coach and his brother in law Martin Harty as another coach. Punted Nicholl during the pandemic and then promoted the rest up a role"
anyway good luck to him, hes going to need it.

Very best wishes to our new manager. Nothing unites fans better than a winning team and I am confident James can provide that for the club, the fans and the town.

Can`t see what the disappointment in this appointment is.
He has lead Dundee to promotion and could be considered unlucky to have been removed when he did.
He hasn`t long stopped playing and will have contacts North and South of the border.
We are in the third division of Scottish football and will not attract anyone better.
Good luck to the guy and hopefully he plays an attractive style of football that was missing last season.
He`s in early enough to speak to players when contracts terminate at the end of May and he may get a different tune from the players we have still under contract.

Whether you wanted him or not he’s here now so let’s give him a chance. Hopefully manages to clear away a lot of the deadwood in the next few weeks and starts to build a squad that can top the table in 11 months time.

A short term appointment to get us out of league 1 in the next year or two, or a long term investment to build us over a longer period?
We desperately need some longer term consistency and we have to stop the revolving door built into EEP. There will be tough times in the short term as it clearly takes time to rebuild a team, so I hope the fan base remain realistic in the short term, or we’ll be back to the pain of where we where we were with Crawford/Grant/Hughes.

Board moved with alacrity after sorting issues with Yogi. Well done.
I was hoping for a young, hungry manager given the relegation and where we are. McPake is young and was a club captain on multiple teams. That means he will command respect from his players.
Many armchair warriors on here spout on about tactics, but tactical acumen does not separate successful managers from failures. Rather, the key is whether a manager is a leader and has good man-management skills. He ticks those boxes for me. I’m pleased.

Hopefully he turns out to be successful. Quite a likeable guy from what I`ve seen in his open goal interviews. Definitely not a manager I would have picked but I was delighted with Yogi! Fingers crossed we can return to the championship straight away.
I just hope the board see sense and let him bring his own coaching staff in.
