Hope we at least made him an offer.

Disappointed and surprised we have not went all out to sign him. The fact he`s signed for them makes it even more hard to take. Hopefully McPake can make some fantastic signings. I know and get why he`s not coming out and saying we`ve got to go up this season, but if we don`t manage, this season will be deemed a failure.

Criminal to let him sign for Falkirk! There should of been zero competition for us if he was happy to play in league 1 and absolute clanger from the club.

Him and Watson you think would be a very good centre back pairing, I`m quite worried tbh.

Many thought Connelly was irreplaceable when his loan expired and then along came Donaldson. There will be other centre backs available and maybe McPake has other targets. It wasn`t a case of us `trying to keep him`. He was a free agent and Falkirk would be able to make him an offer before we could even think about it.

Hughes should have been gone the Saturday we lost to QP, they could have turned a new manager around within 7 days and then we might have been in a position to negotiate with the likes of Donaldson.

That`s the way I read it, too. I`m sure James McPake would love to have kept him but he`s just in the door. You have to think Falkirk have offered him a good deal with maybe 24 hrs to take it or leave it.

A bird in the hand and all that......

I’d agree with that westies. I did post on here at the time that dithering would leave us behind the pack with signings. The club should have had a clear plan for relegation that involved Hughes leaving the club that day.

Spilled milk now tho but I’ve no idea why it took so long. Mcpake could have been in the door a week or ten days before he was and made an offer to Donaldson.

Falkirk have appointed McGlynn, are signing the likes of Donaldson and have stated that this will be the last season they can stay FT in League One. It might be that they`re pushing all their chips in the middle of the table.

Going by Mcpake interview he is going to build his own team. Far too many in that squad that should be out the door after last season. Donaldson prone to mistakes and he played his part in our relegation. Am sure Mcpake has others in mind.

Coll gave his all for the Pars – even turning out when not 100% fit towards the end of the season, despite the fact that he was coming to the end of his RC contract and an aggravated injury could have scuppered any summer move. No wonder he looked more gutted than most of the others when the full-time whistle went against QP – he possibly knew that relegation would mean that he was off to Falkirk! Very shrewd piece of business from McGlynn.

Da-go, when do you think we can expect this perfect centre back who never makes any mistakes to arrive? If he never makes any mistakes he won’t be coming to a league one club any time soon. We’ll be hard pushed to sign better than Donaldson for the coming season.

This is .net at its best. The board, who were criticised for not carrying out due diligence in recruiting Grant, are now criticised for taking too long over sacking Hughes and carrying out a rigorous recruitment process to find his successor which meant the new manager couldn`t make a timely bid for a player he may not have been interested in!

I would have been happy if we had signed Donaldson but he`s hardly irreplaceable.

"Of course wee eck will defend anything the club do"

And some will criticise everything, which is just as meaningless.

We lost against Queens Park on 7th May. By all accounts, McPake was a done deal on 24th May. They`ve moved reasonably quickly.

The transfer window isn`t even officially open yet, so we`ve hardly lost out on a bunch of potential players just yet. Yes, Falkirk have announced Donaldson, which is good business, but none of us know that he wasn`t offered something by us. We might have been outbid.

How blinkered are you ? The 5 day turnaround they had on the new manager from the 19th to the 24th could have been done from the day of the Queens park game.

Here`s a few facts.

None of us actually knows when Hughes was sacked or when the recruitment process started. All we know is when Hughes departure was made public and when McPake`s appointment was announced. We also don`t know if McPake was interested in Donaldson.

How pointing this out is `defending anything the club does` is beyond me.

I`d have liked him to sign as when he was at his best he was proper captain material. He did have a few sh1te games but he was in good company on that score.

Like someone else said he really looked like he cared but that should be a given & he`s hardly irreplaceable. Plus he wasn`t our player.

I think we`d be best trying to forget all about last season as there were massive problems within that squad for a number of reasons. If that means saying cheerio to the majority if not all of those on loan or out of contract I don`t have a massive problem with that.

In the wake of the QP game folk on here were screaming for huge clear outs & "they can all GTF" was a common theme......

I agree, very easy for fans to point the finger at players for not pulling there weight in situations that could heavily impact their careers… Coll was outstanding and gave everything he had, makes it all the tougher to take he’s away to them

My own thoughts on this are, we got relegated, and a complete clear out is fine by me, we have plenty guys on another year we won`t be able to get rid of, so a new manager (like AJ did) doesn`t need to fret too much about re-signing anyone, he will have to build anyway, and there`s quite a bit of time to go.

Pybus and Donaldson did well for us, and are good League 1 players, but it`s a free market, and....we got relegated also with these players.

Good signing for falkirk this.

Hopefully mcpake has some contacts as we really need a leader in there and now we have none. Expect Martin to leave too (although he may hang around for a preseason trial) so might need a whole new set of centre backs.

No, I`d rather let folk make up their own minds about that. I merely meant that if you were ranking last season`s squad, Donaldson and Pybus would be at or near the top for their contributions. Bearing in mind we were relegated, it`s not much of an accolade. I believe they would have been an asset for us in League 1 but what do I know?
