Should be an entertaining, high quality final once it actually gets underway. Kick off delayed by at least fifteen minutes after Liverpool fans clash with police outside the stadium and tear gas was used.

I`m watching on an Italian channel to avoid having to listen Steve McManaman and they`ve said the delay is to allow fans who are late to get in to the stadium.

Real have enjoyed plenty of good luck to get this far - I think it will run out tonight. Scousers for me TOWK. You`ll be pleased to hear that with my prediction record. πŸ˜ƒ

GG I had entirely forgot that McManaman was going to be on the commentary team. Terrible news.
Hard to look past Liverpool who might have to much going forward for Real but then again Madrid are no mugs and it would hardly be a surprise if they won the title or the fourteenth time.

Is it not a sell out? Fans who get in without tickets won`t find a seat, will they? I wouldn`t imagine the French police will be as softly softly as their London counterparts.

Think it`s a bit too soon to speculate on what is going on exactly. Certainly the BBC reporters outside seem to be suggesting it`s the authorities who are at fault. Mind you the beeb is notoriously pro Liverpool.
If English fans have once again stormed the gates (I know I said it`s too soon to speculate!) then it would continue the trend with fans in and around English clubs being increasingly disruptive.

I`m not a Liverpool fan, but I think it would be very wrong to believe the authorities until we hear the stories tomorrow.
Stories of ticketless fans and fans turning up late is perfect to shift the blame from the organisers.

Cheers Guys
This from the Beeb

Dominic King from the Daily Mail speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "I have been back out to turnstile Y which is right behind the Liverpool end. I have spoken to a number of them about their experiences. They have been pepper sprayed by the French police. There a re kids in the queue, old people in the queue. they have been there two hours.

"It came from nowhere. The anger the people feel in terms of how they have been treated...I need to get this point over. There has been no violence or antagonism they are just dismayed by how the authorities have treated them.

"The anger of the people I have spoken to is like nothing I have experienced. It is a failing of the authorities and police with how they are being looked after outside.

"There have been some fans that have tried to get in, I`d be disingenuous to say that was not the case but not like groups or anything like Wembley. This treatment is entirely in one direction."

I really don`t get why, if you support one particular team, you have to hate another and its fans even more - Man U and Liverpool being particularly good examples. I thought Liverpool would win and were a bit unlucky to find Courtois in such fine form, but he only did his job and I didn`t lose any sleep over the result.

With regard to the off field matters, we don`t know the full facts but that hasn`t stopped some posters from wading in with their ill considered judgements. Certainly, a proportion of Liverpool fans are no angels and their behaviour may have been questionable. UEFA have said that the turnstiles became jammed when fans tried to get in with fake tickets. Did this only happen for the sections allocated to Liverpool fans? A poster pointed out that the Real areas did not look overcrowded.

The Gendarmerie will no doubt come in for criticism from the British media, given their notorious reputation in dealing with civil disorder incidents. The media will also be reluctant to lay the blame on the Liverpool fans, with the painful memories of Hillsborough still fresh in the mind.

I`ll wait until the findings of a subsequent investigation are published before making up my mind. Fortunately, nobody died this time.

Interesting that in the article he stated "More fans arrived as kick-off approached, and an increasing number of local teenagers decided to chance their arm at climbing the barriers to enter the stadium."
So it wasn`t Liverpool fans that scaled the fences it was them dirty locals who had been waiting for the English to mass at the turnstiles before making their move. Which would of course see them viewing the game in the Liverpool end.

That might seem laughable but if the ambient temperature is 22Β°C and you`re crammed into a confined space with lots of other people, I can imagine it would be almost unbearable - no matter which team you support.

If you additionally think you`re going to miss the start of your team`s CL Final, well as a Pars fan, I can`t begin to imagine what that must be like. πŸ™‚

I wanted Robertson to do well but was average on the night any set pieces that don`t get past first defender are a crime and he was posted missing to left back when the cross came in from that side for the goal.

They could have done with Charlie Adam he can beat Courtois for fun, doesn`t even need to be in same half ;)

said upthread, didnt seem to be gaps in the Madrid end or overcrowding in gangways there compared to the Red sectors of the ground. French police deliberately targeting the scouse (not english...their own reference!) but not the Spaniards or a club with a history of unsavory fan related incidents once again showing suspect behaviour?

Yea, I saw that, too, PuP. There`s no doubt there were more Liverpool fans at the game than their ticket allocation allowed, but I prefer to wait until any investigation is concluded before putting the boot in.

Liverpool fans are still associated with the Heysel tragedy, when hooliganism was at its peak in English football. Many of the fans in Paris weren`t even born then.

I nipped out of work at lunchtime and heard on the radio what sounded like a middle aged woman tell of her experience. Coming out of the metro at the stadium she was targeted by muggers who knocked her ticket out of her hand then offered to help by picking it up but swapped it for a fake in the process. Then she got caught up in the huge crush. Her whole experience sounded horrendous. She admitted that although the stewards took pity on her and let her in, she was a blubbering mess (her words) and she just wanted to go home.

I wonder what sort of angle those muggers were playing? You d think after having gotten their hands on the ticket, which was their prize, they would just be offski instead of going through the charade of helping the woman and switching the tickets with a phoney. Kudos to the officials for letting someone with a counterfeit ticket into the stadium.

The angle`s much more sophisticated than you assume. A straightforward mugging leads to a scene, and their rich pickings are compromised for short time. This method is like pickpocketing. The target doesn`t know anything untoward has happened, the genuine ticket quickly gets handed off to another member of the gang who runs it to a tout closeby for converting into big bucks. And the cycle gets repeated.
