Looking at the pictures of pre-season training on COWS, I`m surprised they`re doing ball work already.

If we had `prime` Alan Main in goals next season we`d stroll the league - quality keeper

Why are you surprised?

Boring fact I took penalties against him when I was about 8 in a beat the goalie completion for Hythehill Primary Gala day in Lossiemouth.
Everyone was pretty excited as he`d signed for United and it was great to see a local lad making it into the big time and I was palls with his cousin. Always had a soft spot for him for those reasons.

I`m surprised because I thought the emphasis was usually on fitness initially but maybe that`s old-fashioned.

Best introducing them to a football as soon as possible as last year it looked like they were passing a rugby ball

wee_eck more and more teams have moved away from the older thoughts of running until you`re sick then run some more - using short, small sided games at high intensity to work on fitness - all with thoughts of using the ball as much possible
For me there`s a balance; nothing wrong with the old `doggies` on the beach at silver sands or running up murder hill at gullane - however with the advancement of heart rate monitors etc - its more about keeping players in the right `zone` and building fitness in other ways.

Cheers, JC. I`ll have to adjust my own pre-season training accordingly! 😀😀😀

I see Alan Main is now 54 years old so there`s no chance of him doing a Neil Alexander and registering as a player. Be interesting to see if JMcP goes for a back up to Mehmet or someone to take over.

LPF you can`t tell half a story did you score against him?
Gaz3822 I never either probably cos he was very good and a bit cocky too.
