I did consider it - perhaps COWs may have a match report.
Trying to wangle a lift to Cove - last minute decision and I’m looking at my rather decrepit and dusty looking bike just in case (and thinking I better set off noo!)

I would think, that`s close to how we will line up in competitive matches this season, with the exception of Allan and Todd out for Edwards and Dorrans, although Todd is in with a chance of being involved more as an attacking midfielder going by what McPake was saying

Chalmers actually played well in some of our best performances of the season. He looked bad in when the team was playing poorly.
I think he`s just that kind of player. He doesn`t give the ball away too much and often breaks up play by being in the right place to intercept a pass. He`s not particularly creative though and isn`t a hard tackler, so he`s always going to annoy an element of our support.
I`d not be that fussed if he left for elsewhere, but I`ll not be foaming at the mouth and ready to get into a rage the second I see him on a team sheet either.

Can’t read too much into a friendly but that was reasonably encouraging. Hamilton looks good in midfield and Benedictus gives presence and leadership. Dry Astro and wind dictated that there wasn’t a great deal of entertaining football but we looked solid, O’Hara took his goal well and we looked sharp. All fairly positive.

Forgot MacDonald was still with us. Thought he was a decent option for us given versatility.
Probably a bit poorer than Edwards and Comrie defensively but better going forward from what i remember, had quite a good cross on him, particularly from deeper position.

Disagree with the "is in the right place to intercept a pass"
Outwith winning the ball in the air he`s just not very good, he did play well in the two televised games but he was absolutely synonymous with everything that was wrong with our midfield last season.
He needs to improve an absolute shed load this year.

Think it was the decade before the last one we were mismanaged causing the belt tightening with the obvious outcome.

From PieAndBovril, the hatched markings are the "average" for our midfield, so Chalmers not exceeding them suggest he wasn`t achieving, much.
All metric charts like it should be taken with an eye test, but it falls in line with what I was seing in fairness, in particular his tackling stats are awful. Really, really, really bad.
People saying he was bad aren`t making a scapegoat, they are simply watching a really bad football team and pointing out one of the components who were at fault, I really, really, really hope he can improve.
Another issue is his potential wage, when he left Ayr United they insinuated he was on a large wage, saying that with the wages he vacated they could afford two players, we also potentially paid a fee? He just simply, needs to do better.

Two – nil (or two zero as Andy Roxburgh would say) might be a little flattering but we deserved to win. Of course, the result isn’t that important, but it was a win (and clean sheet) against (incredibly) higher division opposition.
We had more possession by far in the first half – maybe the wind was a bigger factor than I realised - but we didn’t really test their keeper – he saved well from a good Wighton run and shot, but that was about it.
We played 4-3-3 as promised with much of the play going through Hamilton. Wighton was on the left and O’Hara on the right with McCann through the middle (until Todorov came on when he moved left).
The first 15 minutes of the second half was much more even – Cove probably shaded it – but then the substitutions started. We got a late second – selflessly set up by Todorov after Cove gifted him possession.
Overall, a decent work out without looking particularly convincing. Tod junior looked enthusiastic (it’s a shame we didn’t have Tod, Todd and Todorov all on the park at the same time), Fenton put in one or two good balls but there wasn’t much else of note from the subs (I haven`t really learned which is which yet, so the fact Tod has glasses helps identification).
(I believe the trialist was Che Reilly who I think is a local lad, formerly on Celtic’s books, but presumably someone on here will be able to confirm)
.
The highlight for me was ticking another ground of the list, and being able to listen to some interesting Radio Scotland interviews with Roxburgh and Charlie Adam on the long journey back.
