Got to agree, we tend to do well in preseason and the early cup games then collapse when the league games start.

Guessing part time teams are well behind in prep than the full time teams at this point of the season.

Still you can only beat what’s in front of you.

Nobody was slagging the club off/being negative though. We have 2 centre halves signed up and no wingers. It’s quite clear that there are more signings to come and I’m pretty sure that was the point being made. It wasn’t any sort of attack on the club or anything, just an observation from someone, no?

To answer your question, par-91; in my opinion - no - on two counts:
Parsfan 97`s remark (28 Jun 21:00) did seem pretty snide to me. And I don`t think it was an observation but an opinion.

I was only trying to point out the squad is light, only 1 goalie, 2 centre halfs and no wide players. Not my fault Brian took it wrong way and then had a dig. I hope your comment wasn’t just aimed at me though buffy

It`s only the 28th of June. There`s no point wasting any energy thinking this will be the squad we start the league with.

I didn’t read it as being snide, but I could be wrong about that. To me, it just seemed like he was saying that the squad isn’t complete and needs another 4/5 signings. In my opinion we need at least 2 wingers, another keeper for competition/cover and at least one more centre half, so I’m struggling to understand why that’s a ridiculous suggestion/some sort of snide comment? Surely people realise that we need cover/competition for the keeper/centre half positions and we need to at least have the option of playing with wingers.

Back on topic, should be a good confidence booster for the players. O’Hara with 3 in 2 and McCann with 2 in 2, hopefully they can build on this and become more prolific in front of goal. 2 clean sheets in a row as well - 3 if you include HoB, which will be a boost to the keeper/defence’s confidence.

We’ll obviously play a higher standard of player in the league, than we have v HoB and Forfar, but you can only beat what you’re up against and it sounds like the players are buying into McPake’s idea of playing a more attacking brand of football. Hopefully that means more entertainment at East End this year!

My assessment of the game- we were streets ahead of Forfar on the night. Whether that’s because they are awful or because we made them look awful I have no idea but , like Saturday, we were the sharper team. The defence looks solid with Benedictus orchestrating. Trialist came on at right back looked keen to get forward. I’m not reading anything into the result.

Oh, and it’s nice to see 3 strikers on the pitch at the same time.

Well to be perfectly honest, in my humble opinion, of course without offending anyone who thinks differently from my point of view, but also by looking at this matter in a different perspective and without being condemning of one`s view`s and by trying to make it objectified, and by considering each and every one`s valid opinion, I honestly believe that I completely forgot what I was going to say.... But we scored 6 goals min.... rejoice!!! 🤣

I see the young sub keeper, Archibald, hasn`t played at all in these two friendlies. Presumably the manager has another back-up keeper lined up. I also noted Hamilton went to centre back after Breen was subbed. I wonder if he is seen as cover for that position?

Of course its pre season. It gives the players game time and McPake a chance to get a look at the players he has.

My view is that scoring six away from home against any team is a positive result. I recall a very successful Man Utd team being fit and sharp at the start of the season. I am encouraged by the approach and all indications so far point to a potentially good season ahead.

Your post has some validity, 97, but perhaps your timing is a bit unfortunate.

I`m reminded of the time when Jolly Jim McLean fined his Dundee United players for shortchanging the fans by only scoring twice in the second half in a 6-1 win over Motherwell. 🙁

Just watched the goals on Twitter. Some good play and it’s nice to see so many players getting forward. Goalkeeping looks suspect, but we made the most of that - which is something we haven’t done in a while, despite facing some questionable goalkeepers.

I see Gary Harkins came on as a half-time sub for Forfar. He`s 37 now and first-team coach according to wikipedia. Their keeper didn`t seem to know where his near post was.
