 It feels different

Is it just me or does it feel different this season?

I know it`s league 1, but there seems to be a different feeling about now! The manager has spoke well and been engaging. The players look a lot fitter than they did this time last year, seems to be a right togetherness within the team. You can see this from the improved social media posts and video`s that have been going out.

Credit to the club, small steps but in the right direction. I am not even overly concerned about the squad. That squad we have should be good enough to get us out this league, I would say we have 3 of maybe the best strikers in the league this season in Toddy, Ohara and Craig!

Mixed with the young players could be a really exciting time, Having some pars fans in that team is great to see!

I firmly believe that McCann will get a good amount of goals, My company is going to sponsor each one of his goals this season, £15 a goal, we will then donate it to the DADSC fund!

COYP can`t wait for the season to start

I’ll be honest and say I was not impressed with the appointment of McPake. Having listened to his interviews and attended the Q&A I have been pretty impressed. He speaks well and seems pretty straight forward. Grant and Hughes both spoke well but generally talked nonsense. McPake talking about getting the basics right I.e. 100% effort and winning a few games is quite refreshing. Both his signings to date seem very good considering we are in League 1. Clearly we will rely on youth a bit this year which is fine with me as it’s the way the Club should operate (and I’m sick fed up of loan signings and last minute signings who really don’t seem that interested). It’s clear we need 4/5 signings still but I’m looking forward to the season starting.

Mon the Pars!!!!!!!!!!!

Also think we are starting to see the influence of the new CEO with better comms, social media, strip launches, fan events, season ticket pricing, season ticket discounts for friendliest etc. All very positive.

We shouldn`t write off the players who remain from last year. For whatever reason they under-performed last season and deserve a second chance. Look how Ross Graham progressed after he returned to United. Mehmet and Breen will benefit from regular games and a season in League 1 won`t harm Todd, Allan and McCann. A change of manager can improve performance and team spirit. Keeping all the strikers happy may be his biggest problem.

The marketing and comms has improved substantially and is no doubt a direct outcome of yer man taking over as CEO. It`s my career and something I just notice much more than other things.

It`s hard to read too much into the playing side of things until we get going properly but the group of players deserve a chance under a new direction. No-one makes it pro while being useless, they just don`t, and on a human level we should just be way more tolerant and patient about something which is essentially meant to be for entertainment.

"That squad we have should be good enough to get us out this league"

That majority of this squad we have, got beat over two legs by the team that finished FOURTH in this league last year.

So you don`t think it`s possible that the players who were here last season can improve under new management? Anyway, 7 of the players who started in the games against QP have now gone so where does that leave your argument?

For those of us not on social media (and no intention of joining)… is social media the only channel the club are communicating with the fans on?

I’ve seen a couple of emails but that’s about it?

The team that finished fourth also went on to beat the team that finished second, trying to draw too much from the playoff games when we`ve changed manager and released a shed load of players is just plain silly.

As is this thread coming off the back of a friendly win, you had a thread on here last year comparing Grant and his charismatic ways to Stein after a few league cup wins, let`s just calm down eh? Very, very very early days, we have a few signings to make as does the rest of the division and then we can see how we are shaped up for the season. As the season goes on our fitness advantage will become less apparent against Part time sides aswell, although I like that McPake seems to have identified that running over the top of teams is absolutely a viable tactic at this level. A large part of AJs success at this level came from him having a team that worked harder, broke quicker and done things at a higher tempo, it works.

I hadn’t really thought about this, but I guess it’s a challenge for the club. Social media is a very useful tool for businesses of all kinds to try and engage with customers/the general public. David Cook commented at the supporters’ meeting last week that they’re looking at the demographics using each of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc and will likely try and use different styles of marketing/engagement on these platforms.

I would imagine that communicating with fans not on social media is also different and challenging. Social media is a good way to get news out quickly, people can set up tweet notifications for live updates/team news and notifications when the club uploads to their Instagram stories - we put some clips from last night’s game there. But regular emails are something a lot of people would probably get fed up of and something businesses are moving away from. Writing and formatting emails and stories on a website are a lot more onerous than sending out social media updates/posts that can just be short and sweet. Fans also have the chance to ‘like’ or reply to these posts and engage with each other in comments.

If you have suggestions for other methods of communication, or feel like you’re missing out, it might be worth popping Drew an email with ideas?

We`ve been here before, so let`s stay grounded.

Grant makes some good points, further up.

Covid put fan engagement activities on the back burner so it was probably already set in the timeline to get them up and running again. The club social media had been boosted by Mike, as general manager, and imo has set the precedent for today.

I’ve no doubt David Cook will be instrumental on the financial side and it will be interesting to see what else he has up his sleeve.

As for the team and the new season, the proof will be in the pudding.

Looking forward to it very much.

Was at the game last night and we certainly steamroller a poor Forfar side with our high pressing game. Never the less it still takes a lot of effort to play this way regardless of the opposition and I was quite impressed with the levels of fitness in the team. Really hope that Benedictus stays fit and healthy as he is marshaling the team from the back really well. The trialling right back who came on played well getting forward a lot and was that a young Toddy who also came on wearing the goggles? and had a hand in the 2 late goals, seems to have a good football brain on him. Anyway only a friendly but small glimmers of a better season to come we hope.
