Aberdeen cult hero and double cup winner of the sixties/seventies passed away aged 74.

Never a dull moment with Davie, a “leave everything on the pitch” type with unmanageable shock of red hair and Mexican style moustache, he also spent a few years in USA and Canada but his last three games of his career were with us.

He scored the hat trick at EEP in a 1-3 defeat that relegated us to the second tier on 26th April 1975.

A date that is etched in my memory - my Pars supporting mate`s dad passed away that day, after years of taking us all over to watch the team.

Davie Robb was a good player.

Davie Robb played in the same style as the recently deceased Drew Busby. When we were reigning Scottish Cup holders in 1969 it was two goals by Robb that beat us 2-0 at EEP. One memory from that match was when John Lunn took a free kick about the halfway line and aimed to hit it long up to our forwards. Robb was standing less than 10 yards away to try and put him off but Lunn whacked it powerfully- right off Robb’s face. We roared in delight at the loud skelping noise as the ball was deflected up to us on the North Enclosure. The ref ordered a re-take but big Davie stood his ground and jumped up to try the same trick again. He was tough.

The replay was on the Monday night, just 2 days later, as the Pars had a fixture backlog. The first game really sapped our team who played against a strong wind for the whole game. Due to some freak weather conditions, the wind switched directions at halftime, according to newspaper reports.

RIP Davie.

Not your average Sunday League player.
