Sounds like we`re playing well and like Wighton missed what was a straight forward chance. Hopefully we can keep it up in the second half. Getting through to the next round would be good money wise.

Definitely not getting my hopes up but I still like seeing us doing well in the cups. Falkirk and Queen of the South are the two favourites in my opinion. We need a few more players in.

Mehmet`s just as capable of the worldie as he is an absolute howler. I`d like to see another keeper brought in. Sounds like a very easy goal lost and we`re running out of gas now. We`ve played well but today again shows how thin we are squad wise because there is no one on the bench capable of changing the game (except maybe Todorov).

No one on the bench who can change a game? We don’t have anyone in the first 11 capable of changing a game against full time teams so far.

We’ve become a very workman like team with players giving their all but lacking once we have the ball in the opponents half. We badly need a couple of creative players, hopefully this week.

At least we haven’t said that’s our business done for the year I guess!

Things will be looking up……..now yogi is gone!

We seem to have created enough chances to get a result so that is a positive compared to lumping the ball up to a wee guy and hoping for the 2nd ball. but the real positive is putting them away.

we could do with McPake asking Berkey where we should be looking to strengthen the team, what an absolute roaster.
Narrow defeat against a team two leagues above us and one of the in form teams from last season.
We look a lot more organised and physical.

Oh wheest, Berkley is 100% correct here. If you seriously think we are a complete team then you, wee eck etc are absolutely delusional. No wingers, defence shallow, too many similar midfielders

We need Berkey to help us keep our feet planted firmly on the ground, 68guns.
Without his contributions we`d all be getting carried away every time we win back to back games so let`s cut him a bit of slack. 🙂

Everyone knows we need reinforcements, including the manager.

I`d be annoyed if we`re missing out on good, attainable players but truthfully outwith Donaldson has that happened? We do desperately need some wingers but I don`t know who, I can`t think of anyone.

Armstrong might have been a possibility at Killie but he`s getting game time, maybe Zanatta from Raith? Seemed to get a chance today and play poorly.

An unknown youngster on loan? Chris Mochrie maybe?

By sounds of it we played well today, and Ross co are two leagues above us. Yes I hope we add more to the squad, but nothing that happened today and so far this season has even any massive cause for concern. We seems stronger, seem to have players motivated and more confident and working hard.

We lost 1-0 to a Premier side in the same cup last year and had 3 positive results in the other group games, results in this competition do not translate to the league campaign.

I`m not deluded in any way, I just get annoyed when someone like Berkey never seems to comment when we get a good result but never fails to appear after we lose. It`s almost as if he`s itching for an opportunity to put the boot in. Does anyone really believe the manager doesn`t know the shortcomings of the squad and isn`t working hard to strengthen it before the league campaign starts?

It doesn`t follow that our season will now go down the same route as last season, does it? We have a manager who gives me far more hope than Peter the Pointer and the well below average bear....

Forget the score — the fact that we created enough chances to OUTSHOOT a prem league team on their home ground is more than good enough for me.

Any word on the Benedictus injury?

The squad does still look rather bare, and I was a bit concerned over how serious Benedictus injury was. I wonder if we will see many new faces or if relegation has severely hampered the budget. I wouldn`t mind seeing another centre back in, at the moment it looks like if there is any issues with the 2 we have we will be shuffling the pack to have Comrie cover, or perhaps moving Hamilton back. Todorov at a last resort

I’ve been reasonably impressed with what I’ve seen so far this season. However the squad we have will not cope with the suspensions and injuries that will inevitably come our way. We could probably use more cover everywhere other than forwards.

"We do desperately need some wingers but I don`t know who, I can`t think of anyone."

the wide free agents up here werent great and are all gone which is about the same for keepers and centre halfs. more players from down south to come up on trial? we did have a centre half up who was the unused trialist against Killie but he has signed for a european team. banking on loans that might not come through? the foreign market we would be in you are looking at a 5 or 6 week wait to get them in the country which is ok for 1 or 2 maybe but not the 5 we need just to bolster the squad. anything after that depends on current players leaving which a few probably should go for different reasons.

back to yesterday, disappointing not to get something out of the game but if we were going to lose the game, to do so by just 1 still gives us a chance of qualifying with a win against Alloa.

I remember a comment from someone not being too worried about Col Donaldson signing for Falkirk as there were plenty other decent Centre Half’s out there.

It is time we signed one or preferably two.

The lack of signings, particularly CH is going to bite us sooner or later.

Is it lack of cash?

I can’t remember going into a season ever with only two recognised Centre Half’s.

It does appear we might have a playing style under mcpake and that`s good to see.

I`m definitely in the camp though where I am worried about squad strength and it no longer appears obvious as to how we can strengthen the squad.

One worry I have is if we are going to be dependent on loan signing would that be youngster`s and do I really want us improving another teams youngster ahead of our own.

I think at this stage as well is there any point in thinking we are going to sign from.an alternative market ie foreign I just can`t see it.

The sceptic in me is beginning to think that the statement we heard stating that we would have one of the biggest budgets in the league may have misled some of us. One of the biggest? What 3rd or 4th?

It’s time we signed some players.

I am not totally against loan players. We have had some good ones in the past and some not so good.

If that’s the road we go down then so be it.

Make no mistake if Benedictus, Breen or Mehmet get injured we will see a signing quickly. So why wait?

My patience is wearing thin as you can probably guess….

Going to be difficult to get full time players to sign for a league one club.
Imagine loans won’t happen until the end of the window. Club clearly has a tight budget and what is left has to be spent wisely. Squad is thread bare at CB especially.

Crowd was 943, of which 137 were Pars fans. That`s not a great home support for the first home game of the season. Ross County are very lucky to have Roy MacGregor. If only there was a Pars fan with £300,000,000 burning a hole in his pocket

would accept players choosing a premiership club over dunfermline just now.

But apart from Dundee who would probably be able to out bid most championship teams I think we should be able to compete with championship clubs.

It`s about how you sell things in my opinion I`ve already said before if ourselves and Falkirk have strong season then what fixtures even comes close to having the same status as that fixture.

We will still have potentially one of the largest home supports in Scotland and our away support at most grounds next season will be one of the biggest in Scotland.

Crikey who wants to play for Ayr or Morton ahead of the pars to me that lacks ambition.

I don`t think the potential size of the club or the history of the club will matter to many players. Hamilton signed for us ahead of Championship and Premiership interest because he is a fan, but there`s not many would do that.
Players like that young French guy Ayr United have signed are always going to go to a team in a higher league if they think its going to improve their chances of getting spotted and achieving a move to a higher level.
I would imagine our playing budget has been cut back due to relegation, and so we would need to offer higher wages than Championship clubs can offer to temp people here.
The other issue we might have is the cost of living crisis. I`m not sure how much money we pay, but if for example we were paying someone £500 a week in the Championship but now can only offer £350 a week in League One, players might decide the offer of £275 a week for going part-time from Alloa, and getting a full time job to supplement their income might be a better option in the long term

I was indeed referring to the times those particular clubs were in league 1.

They stayed full time and attracted players who ultimately won them the league.

We have not attracted enough players...yet. If we don’t, for whatever reason we won’t win the league.

Maybe we had more contracted players?

From the courier: Why have Dunfermline, Raith Rovers and Kelty Hearts made fewer signings than other teams this summer?

We finished 9th in the Championship. Falkirk finished 5th in League 1. Maybe we had a stronger core squad than them.

Playing on astroturf and risking injury will sway many prospects to sign for a championship club over us.

There`ll be a few reasons why players will choose championship clubs over us.

This isn`t one.

Yes, it`s because they`ve heard how crap Stephens have become. Players used to sign on the promise of a half time bridie.

Championship

7 grass 3 plastic (Cove, Hamilton, Raith) , will be 6-4 for a while as queens park will play on Plastic whilst ground is finished.

League 1
2 grass, 8 plastic (Clyde, QoS, Falkirk, Kelty, Alloa, Montrose, Edinburgh, Airdrie)

Cheers Elvis. Maybe we should re-lay the carpet tiles with the curled up corners, at EEP. 😉

I refereed my last ever game on them was asked what they were like. I said they were OK to run about on as a ref, but I wouldn`t have fancied trying to play football on them.

Not your average Sunday League player.

we did and are covered in a few areas. the ones we arent and they have signed players, Donaldson is maybe the only one id have been seriously interested in but who knows what went on there. the rest? we need better than that and hopefully the "process" McPake mentioned a couple of weeks ago is working and we will see the results of that soon.
