Don’t. There will be enough on the news for days

The girls have done well. Rode their luck in their last three games but have shown resilience and a good attitude.

Great result but that was a pretty poor game. Germany looked nervy on the ball and England were quite sloppy. Constant stoppages were farcical too.

Am I right in thinking there was some talk a while back where women were asking why they don’t get the same salary as men in football? I know how bad this sounds and normally I’m all for gender equality but there’s no way that should happen. Not in the present day anyway.

Was there a game today? I was watching Celtic v Aberdeen and must`ve missed it. Ah well I`m sure I`ll hear a wee report on the news later probably just after the weather.

How is it a huge boost for women`s and girls football now, does someone not win the competition every time its played?

I quite enjoy women`s football but that`s the first game in the Euros I`ve watched all the way through. Things have fallen England`s way but they have improved immensely since Phil Neville was in charge. From what I saw of the other games I thought the overall standard was poor for international football but England and Germany were the best sides along with France. The commentators are just as partisan as in the men`s game!

It’s a ‘major’ international tournament however:

1) they didn’t have enough teams for a round of 16 ?!
2) N. Ireland go to the tournament with a part time squad
3) there was results such as 8-0 and 5-0 (not even Faroe Islands lose that many goals these days)
4) the overall standard is pretty poor - I witnessed the German goalie kick away a 25 yard shot tonight, it was the most bizarre thing I’ve seen in a while!

I’m all for gender equality but it’s Micky mouse stuff.

Not really sure what you’re getting at with your ‘comparison’ question?! The obvious comparison to make is to the mens game - you know that industry they’re trying so hard to get on a par with…?

I’m smart enough to know though they’ll never be as good/fast/strong as the men, but even that aside the woman’s product is a poor watch.

I’d like your thoughts please on the points I made in my previous post…

I posted congratulations to the England women’s football team (because I know there are fans of the wonen’s game on here) and that’s it really. I thought I’d watch the final having not watched the other stages, and found it to be quite good albeit the commentary was obviously biased.

Give me men’s football every time, just my opinion.

Some great work going on with girls football at Hillfield Swifts. When my wee one started going along 5 years ago she was 1 of 4 girls playing with the boys 2011 group.
Fast forward to yesterday and there were 48 under 12 Swifts girls playing in a wee tournament at the Bally Bank.

England`s mens players are understood to receive a match payment of about £2,000 each - which has been donated to charity since 2008.

According to the English Football Association, women and men have received the same appearance money since January 2020.

I think that’s fair enough if the game generates sufficient revenue. There is certainly interest in the women’s game - just not mine, I think it’s rubbish

And what other sports do you compare men to the women?

And for your information, they are only wanting to be on par with players who have the same ability, whether they are men or women, which is the least they would deserve.

And for my thoughts on your points

I`ll just take the first just now:
This is13th edition of the women`s euros
In the 13th edition of the men`s euros there was...
16 teams in the finals.., so only 4 groups of 4 as well.....

I actually think it might attract more youngsters both boys and girls to the game and it might encourage more women to watch the Pars. My other half who cant stand football even watched the whole match. I strongly believe that it will benefit all football not just the ladies game.

Good stat re the 13th edition. Nevertheless though it’s 2022 - they’re wanting the same appearance money, the same media exposure, wanting games on mainstream tv/Sky and they can only get 4 groups of 4… really?!

What’s your thoughts on the 8-0 and 5-0 scorelines at an international tournament - pretty embarrassing eh…?

In terms of other sports, I hold the same views about tennis. Again… slower poorer quality and only play 3 sets but they want the same recognition and get the same prize money - crazy stuff!

Any team that gets beat by that amount will feel a little embarrassed, I`m pretty sure we do when our team gets hammered on occasion, and also in other tournaments, your example , tennis, how many times have you seen players get beat 6-1,6-1,6-2 at one of the majors, is that as embarrassing??

And you are entitled to your views, no problem with that

Brazil should hang up their boots for good then. How do you come back from the humiliation of a 7 1 spanking by Germany?

Other world cup results include:

Hungary 10 El Salvador 1
Yugoslavia 9 Zaire 1
Germany 8 Saudi Arabia 0
Hungary 9 South Korea 0

Looks like the men`s world cup is pap too.

I enjoyed what I saw of the tournament. I enjoy watching football whether that be kids, amateur, Scottish league 1 or champions league, elite level or an amateur game at the local park. The woman’s game is different to the mens game but in terms of entertainment the games I saw were in someways better than the mens matches which are all too often turgid affairs. There was plenty of skill on show and more space on the pitch than you see in the more physical mens game and , mercifully, little in the way of backwards and sideways passing which blights mens international games. I have no interest in the woman’s game in as much as I couldn’t care who plays for who or who wins the league but the standard of play and entertainment in the euros was commendable.

I don`t understand why folk compare women`s football with men`s just to belittle it. You wouldn`t compare schoolboy or youth football unfavourably with the men`s professional game just because the players were physically inferior. Watching women`s football it`s quite obvious there are lots of naturally-gifted players who move and run just like their male counterparts. I remember a few male fans on here who grew up with Caroline Weir saying they could hardly get the ball off her when they had kickabouts as kids.

How much more spotlight do you want it to get? It was given full coverage on the BBC throughout. Their top flight games are broadcast live too. There are female commentators, summarisers, panellists, reporters and journalists EVERYWHERE. They`ve got what they wanted. Wish folk would stop banging on about it. There`s far far worse inequalities and prejudices going on in the world. It`s fitba FFS

Mens World Cup in 2014, semi final finished Germany 7-1 Brazil. By your logic, that means the mens’ World Cup that year was amateur football.

In 2018, Russia won a game 5-0, England beat Panama 6-1.

Not everyone has to be a fan of women’s football. If you’re not, just don’t talk about it. Going out of your way to slander the game, simply because it’s a women’s version of a sport you enjoy just reeks of misogyny.

Agreed - I enjoyed the game. Commentators were a bit annoying (they kept having a pop at the ref who I thought was having a good game), but the England players are all very likeable and deserved to win.

Yes - things went their way (Germany must have been thrown by Popp getting injured in the warm up - kind of similar to Ronaldo in 1998), but you need that to win a big trophy.

For those of you criticising the standard - I don`t think are many players in the world (male or female) who could show the composure and ability to execute in the way that Toone did for England`s first (or indeed Magull`s finish for Germany), with such high stakes.

If you don`t like it - don`t watch it, but to say that the women playing are anything other than top level athletes is total horse$hit.

It`s a bit off the beam anybody looking for bucket loads of money for playing a game, when many families in the UK are struggling to make ends meet and feed their kids.

The amount of money that elite players are paid is obscene and I`m sure that anyone scrambling about to fleece their own nests is a very bitter pill for many of our poor and disadvantaged to swallow.

“ Am I right in thinking there was some talk a while back where women were asking why they don’t get the same salary as men in football? I know how bad this sounds and normally I’m all for gender equality but there’s no way that should happen. Not in the present day anyway.”

I paid too much money every weekend for the past year to watch Pars TV on a Saturday and there is not a single Dunfermline player (or opposition player) who’d be good enough to get in the starting line up of the England women’s first team.

When you write a sentence that says “I’m all for gender equality but”, that means you’re not for gender equality. It’s a stupid comment and about as archetype, bitter, Scottish, middle aged man as you can get. Embarrassing.

The very worst pars team of the last couple of years would easily beat the English team of last week. This is proven by a team of under 15 Texas boys beating the high flying USA women’s team a couple years ago. You might not like it but it’s just a fact that men’s physicality would overpower them.

That’s not to say that the women’s game can’t provide its own product and differentiate itself from the men’s game as having its own value as a more of a flowing game with more goals but they are two totally different things.

A good example is golf, I enjoy women’s golf as it’s more relatable than men’s golf with a higher variation of shots than men’s boom and chip but even for all that skill the top male golfers would be way too good for the top woman to compete. Again this is fact as proven when women have played on the tour.
