Let`s not get carried away but we`re definitely winning this 5 nil with a McCann hattrick, Mochrie overhead kick and a Chalmers volley from 40 yards.

McCann is 5/1 to be first scorer today .
Surely worth a wee £5 to win tonight`s celebration pints . 😃

Another 16 year old scored the 3rd goal (was wearing no.7 I believe) in the u-18 highlights posted on here earlier this week.

Squad still lacks depth, we need 2-3 players in before the window closes. Cover for CB is essential. Tough match today, Montrose are a good side and will test us big time.

I was thinking watching those highlights that the current lack of depth in that area might see someone get a chance.

16 year olds playing in U18 football is bound to help them develop. Not sure why we don`t have more of the youngsters on the bench. Even if they have no chance of being involved surely the experience of being around the first team on match day is going to help them. Only thing I can think of, is that it`s McPake sending a message to the board, "I need more bodies here"

From listening to commentary and reading Buffy`s updates the front three are rarley mentioned -seeing little of the ball and failing with it when they do get it. Mochrie on for Wighton or O`Hara I would think. Montrose have had 60% possession according to BBC.

Same players that couldn’t hit a barn door last season letting the team down. The 433 is not working again, yet Mcpake has stuck with it. Montrose have bossed this match…Mochrie should be on second half.

Very average at the moment. Desperately need a bit flair in the team. Everything is workmanlike. Edwards is the only one threatening. No link up between front 3. And surely if Hamilton is sitting we dont need Chalmers?

Really tough game. Montrose were excellent. But when you defend really well and take one of the few chances created you`ll win games.

Think we better get used to games like today.

Great game today.

Nice to see we’ve got a manager that is willing to try and make positive changes to counter the other team and try and win the game!

Also good to see us standing up for ourselves and not getting bullied like last season - especially 2nd half where we gave them no space - could see they were getting frustrated.

Let’s keep this up next week so we go into the airdrie game with real momentum!

Can see why Montrose had drawn both games 0-0 before today. Very difficult team to break down. Credit to McPake and the players though, kept going and made the right changes to get the result. Brought MacDonald on and changed the shape to 3-5-2, with MacDonald at wing back and he crossed for Todorov’s goal.

Also, credit to the board for offering the cheap season tickets for the young guys. Atmosphere has been brilliant so far, hopefully they keep that up!

Great result but a frustrating game. Before Todorov came on there were many crosses but not enough players making runs into the box to get onto the end of it. We defended well. Breen and Bene have been solid at the back so far and I feel a lot more confident in Mehmet, especially when he comes out for crosses. Breen seems to be a target with the experienced strikers. I`ve seen him lose a few off the ball battles in the last three homes games against McAllister and Sammon with little nudges to beat him to the ball. He is looking a much more solid player than last season though.

Credit to Chalmers once again, he played well and looked a lot more positive. His three corners were excellent. It was unfortunate Todorov wasn`t on the park for them.

McPake got the subs spot on. We changed to a 3-5-2, which allowed McDonald and Edward to get further forward. His contribution was excellent. His cross to Todorov was excellent and the header was perfect. McCann had two chances to kill it but for some reason he cannot finish with his feet. Again, you cannot fault his effort.

We should win comfortably next week but I would definitely change Mochrie for Wighton. We`ve got off to a great start this season but we still badly lack width.

Great win against a good side. The games against Alloa and Montrose show that there are a lot of hard games out there, both games were very close with not much between the teams. But battling out for 3 points is very encouraging. COYP

"Great game today"

Not for me, Clive. Thought it was an awful game and like the Alloa game it looked like it was heading for a 0-0 before one good cross and cracking header made the difference. Montrose looked well organised and if they can get a creative player in to supply McAllister then they`ll be near the top again this season so it`s a good three points.

Thought Todd did well, McCann worked hard as always and the back four and keeper looked pretty comfortable. Sadly I`m not keen that McPake went back to trying to shoehorn the three forwards onto the park again and until the goal our delivery from wide areas (mostly from the full backs) was terrible. Happy to get a win while not playing well but it was a tough watch again today.

He stated we need to start winning football games which we are doing. I`ll take games like today week in week out if it means getting 3 points. We were not as bad as some are making out. In spells we sat too deep but yet another clean sheet and 3 points. There is no pleasing some people.

not a fan of 433/451 generally but with this group of players even more so.

its another win though, another clean sheet and hopefully no further injuries to add to a squad that is desperate for numbers but that has been said for more than a few weeks.

I was wondering today if that is the last well see of Wighton in a starting line-up for a while.
To be honest the team wouldn`t miss him or O`Hara if they moved on. That`s not meant to be a dig at them. It`s just the way we play.

Listening to McPake`s interview, I sympathise with him about Wighton. He claimed both his knees are giving him grief and he`s got no option at the moment to play him until Mochrie is up to fitness. That`s perhaps why Wighton looked a yard or two off the pace.

On the flip side, I`m surprised he doesn`t start with a 3-5-2 formation and play McDonald from the start instead though.

Totally agree with that NikNakPar. After last season`s experience I would happily accept performances like that every week if we bag the three points. A wee word for Chalmers too. He kept popping up in just the right places, moved the ball about well and looked good on the ball. Bene made son good penetrating runs as did Edwards. Comrie too played well.

I hate hot weather, and I especially hate football in hot weather. It makes me a crabbit hoor. So just as well we won.

It feels like a good win, because Montrose were better than Alloa and Edinburgh City. Well organised and able to play some decent football, you can see why they`ve become one of the top part-time sides in recent years.

We started at a quick pace and had a good first 15 mins, but couldn`t sustain it and fell out fo the game. It all seemed to be about getting on with it quickly, but it just wasn`t possible in that horrible weather. First half was tight overall, and 0-0 at half-time was fair enough.

Second half was better. Not that we were hugely dominant, but we managed spells of pressure and eventually it made a difference. Once again, we looked a bit better after changing to 3-5-2. The 3 in midfield all had a good second half and turned the game our way.

I`m very pleased at how well we did at seeing out the game after going a goal up. Really just a couple of corners and a wide free kick to deal with, which we did without much problem. I`m also pleased to see wins in two tight games along with one easy one - to have a chance of winning a league, I think you have to be able to do both.

A good win, and I might even be able to enjoy it if we can have some cooler weather before the weekend is out!

Positives : The 2 center halves. No nonsense and reading the game fairly well. Memhet is looking better and a bit more confident.
Macdonald coming on was a breath of fresh air. Looked strong and we looked way more dangerous with him on that side.
Todorov.
3points.

Negatives: Chalmers. Not sure what people see in him. If it`s not a 5 yard pass it`s a hospital ball. On the very rare occasion he does get something right people get carried away. Bear in mind the level he started his career and we actually paid money for him.
Wighton can away and take his face for a $hite. Zero effort and a poor attitude. $hat out of every 50/50.
I`m well prepared to be shot down for this last one....Lewis McCann. Whether you think he has something and will be a player one day (I don`t) He is not the spearhead for a promotion push. He`s got a first touch like an oil rig and his decision making is pi$h

It doesn`t matter where he started his career. He isn`t Xavi, but picking out Chalmers for criticism today is way off the mark.

I think we were bullied a bit in the first half which because of the heat and the football on display I was nearly falling asleep. Montrose missed a good chance to go ahead in that half but they blasted it over the bar but that was the only mistake the defence made in the game. The second half improved a bit and we managed to get the ball forward a bit quicker and the goal came from a very good cross which didn`t come from the bye line which we seem reluctant to do unless we get to the bye line. Should have made it 2 but we chose the wrong option of the final pass and were careless with the one we did choose, got away with it today though might not in future games. We desperately need a wide only player.

Generally passed the ball to a team-mate, sometimes backwards, sometimes forwards. I seem to recall him releasing a guy down the wing a couple of times. Looked to have a pretty solid game from what I could see.

Like I said, he`s not some sort of world-class playmaker, but he was alright today. Thought Hamilton struggled more than he did, although he improved towards the end as the team did.

Think that`s very harsh sonofpetrie. I was one of Chalmers biggest critics last season but he has improved the last three games. It`s all about opinions but you state people get excited when he does something right but you could also argue that some people have made their mind up based on last season no matter what he does.

Agree with McCann about his decision making. His finishing with his feet really needs to improve as well. He is an asset, especially at this level though and if he improves on these things, the only way is up for him.

I`ll take a whole season of performances and results like that if it means promotion.

They looked a good, well organised team, and we managed to scrape a result. Killie looked a bit crap last season, but fought results and got promotion. Nothing wrong with grinding out results.

The subs had an impact, and it`s been a while since we had a manager who could manage a game like that, so I`m happy.

The criticism of Chalmers is harsh. He didn`t do much wrong and seemed the only one willing to show for the ball and try to play. I thought he was ok.

My only concern is that if either Bene or Breen get injured, we`re goosed. Those two are strolling it and look a solid partnership. I`ve not felt so confident in a pars central defensive partnership in a long time. Top class.

I`ll take this all year. Long may it continue.

A tight game, after a bright start we faded in a poor first half, second half was better though and we did deserve the points in the end.

As noted, Mehmet looks more solid, particularly at corners, defence was good again, although Breen was lucky the Montrose attacker fluffed a decent chance after he was beaten by a straight long ball. Comrie was tidy, put in a good ball for Hamilton`s chance first half. Edwards made some good bursts but most of the time took a touch too many and his crossing was largely dire today.

The midfield three all improved as it went on, àll three did ok, not much more. Wighton was poor, having looked a bit more likely last weekend, although if he`s playing through an injury and out of position I have some sympathy. O`Hara again, decent movement, but a guy that can`t dribble or cross is of little use out wide. McCann did ok as well but his shooting is getting a bit concerning.

All the subs did well, Mochrie must come in next week and I also feel a 3-5-2 fits this squad better, Macdonald is hopeless as a winger but useful as wingback/fullback, also gives Edwards more license and means O`Hara can play centrally.

Chalmers best midfielder we had today, only player that showed for the ball and found the space for passes. The problem is when gets the baw there is no movement in front him and some of his passes look poor. Some fans thou just love a scapegoat and he’s the man at the moment however he plays.

Getting subbed isn`t necessarily a sign that someone`s had a bad game.

It`s 25 degrees, there`s 20 minutes to go and we`ve fresh legs ready to come on. In reality, you`re not going to bring the keeper, the back 4 or Hamilton off - so it doesn`t leave many others safe.

Todd and Hamilton are quicker and put themselves about more. While on the pitch Chalmers passed the ball about nicely. As said previously in this thread it`s not his fault there is zero movement ahead of him.

He wasn't world class which some people expect him to be playing for the Pars in league 1 but he never really done anything wrong while he was on.

Quite often Chalmers has to pass backwards or sideways because there`s no movement in front of him although he did play some good forward passes today.

I’d be willing to bet a fiver that both Todd and Hamilton are fitter than him

Fair enough. I s`pose we took Wighton off to prevent him getting sunburn on his napper. I`m glad it was 25 degrees or we probably would`ve dropped 2 points today.

I’ll say it again. Our starting formation is not right with the squad we have.
In our last two home games, changing to a 4-4-2 or 3-5-2 has worked better

Chalmers was decent today. Special mention for MacDonald- couldn’t cross a coupon vs Alloa ( and roundly criticised)- stuck one on a plate for Todorov today.

Chalmers has been very good past two weeks, he shows for the ball constantly and also encourages the full backs forward by dropping off to cover, need to give the guy credit when it`s due. Mochrie looks a very intelligent player but I fear he`ll be a step ahead of most of our players and expect runs into space they won`t see.

Listening to the manager it was probably linked to him having two dodgy knees which probably contributed to his performance.

Was worrying the amount of stray passes that Hamilton made, especially first half.

But take 3 points any day!

Has our luck changed a wee bit first Alloa strike the x bar and yesterday Montrose hit the post, all before we scored. And noticed ball wasn`t running as well on that great surface.
Maybe due to not allowed to put water on.Tap o the league long may it continue.
Then I notice in highlights that they were watering after the game.
