In an article on the BBC Sport website he says he is fit and raring to go but thinks clubs are steering clear of him because of his history of diabetes and heart problems. He is probably aiming higher than League 1 but could he be persuaded to sign a short-term contract to put himself in the shop window? Would his type of player enhance our squad?

He`s a class player who I had hoped we would get early last season when I heard Hibs were ready to offload him but I`m not sure if he would fit in to the pressing type game that JMcp seems to be developing especially if Dorrans comes back in. I don`t know if we could handle the luxury of those two on the park far less the luxury of their wages.

I have just read the article and thought exactly the same thing. He openly admits his next stop might not be a glamorous one. A player of his ability would be a good signing for us.

If he`s ruling out going somewhere glamorous, it doesn`t look like he thinks he`s going to end up at EEP.

I love it when we go sell Kevin Nisbet,
He's gonna pay for everyone this season.

Another one in the long line of unfufilled potential. He looked a standout first coupls of times i saw him, maybe a bit slow for top level but thought he`d have had a bit more of a career than he`s had.
The heart condition and a couple of off field issues (bad car crash years ago) obviously didn`t help either.

Wonder if we could mutually agree for Dorrans to move on and bring in Allan.
Win win for everyone.
The flame still burns

Has Dick found him a part-time job somewhere, I wonder? I`d be surprised if he didn`t get any full-time offers.

With his health and injury issues, maybe part time suits him best right now. Also a good chance he just wants to get a run of games in a decent team and will try and get a move in January/next summer if he stays fit and performs well.
Having another job is obviously a possibility too. I think David Gold at Arbroath has a coaching company, similar to Cardle. Could have agreed to work with him.

He has signed a two-year deal which is quite a commitment on both sides.

Hopefully Campbell can get the best out of him again. I`m glad he didn`t end up signing for Falkirk or anyone else at our level. I wouldn`t be surprised if we offered him a deal as there was a lot of competition according to the article.

Obviously suits him better. The attraction of PT football salary possibly supplemented by another job is more financially attractive.

Are you implying that playing part time football with Arbroath is an easier gig than playing full time at the same/lower level?

Recovery is certainly harder if you are diabetic so training and playing over split up days may be better for him. Training something like Tuesday and Thursday with a Saturday game breaks things up meaning clear recovery days in between.

I`m pretty sure we could have made allowances for Scott? Train every other day or not take part in too much running, if health concerns was really the issue?
I suspect it was a financial decision though?
I recall players like Paul McGrath at Man Utd hardly trained because of his bad knees. Didn`t prevent him from being a class player for Utd and ROI
It's bloody tough being a legend

No. I’m saying training twice a week will put less strain on his body than training 4/5 days a week. If he’s struggling on other days, it doesn’t stand out that he is struggling, as he isn’t expected to train with the rest of the team. This means he can keep playing, whilst giving his body more time to recover between training sessions/games. Like other part time players, he will no doubt be doing some stuff on his own, on the ‘days off’ but it’s more adaptable and can be individualised.
In a full time environment, if a player can’t train at full capacity every day, it stands out. Teammates are asking why this guy plays ahead of them, if he can’t handle training. It’s also more common for players to push themselves further than they should in training, to avoid showing that weakness. This can make injuries/health issues worse.
At no point did I suggest playing for Arbroath in the championship was easier than playing for Dunfermline in League 1. So I don’t know why you’re trying to twist my words, to imply something that just isn’t there at all.

Thanks for the clarification, par-91. There was no ulterior motive and no intention to twist your words. Apologies if I came across that way. Of course there are differences between full time and part time training but the latter is hardly a dawdle, as Arbroath have shown in recent seasons, often looking fitter than FT opponents towards the end of a game.
