I saw something saying Jason Thomson wanted to leave as he was finding it difficult to reconcile the time spent on football with his job. I was surprised to read that JT was 35!

Craigan would be a great bench player but would he be happy with that ? No idea.

Presumably he`s part-time which might be a problem. I don`t think he`s the type of player we`re needing right now.

In a small squad, I’d argue that a player who can provide cover for a number of positions is exactly what we need. He wouldn’t necessarily strengthen the first choice 11, but we need cover and he would provide that for a number of different positions.

I suspect Craigen is looking for a regular start at this stage of his career.

You figure he`d look at Todd, Allan and Chalmers and conclude he`d not be able to force his way into the midfield?

I don`t think he`d be a certain starter. I don`t think having a part-timer in the squad would work either but that`s a different debate. Dorrans leaving increases the urgency of getting a new midfielder in though. Has Shaun Byrne`s situation at Dundee been resolved yet?

I don`t think he`d be a certain starter either. However, I think Craigen would look at our current situation and believe he had more than enough ability to hold down a place.

Also, we`ve no idea of his circumstances. He might have been part-time for the last couple of seasons but could be up for playing full-time again. He`s spent the majority of the last 10 years as a full-time footballer.

We are cutting our nose of to spite our face by not having a hybrid model of full and part time players. Just get the full time players and academy guys training with the part timers on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 7 and 9.30. As we`ve seen this transfer window, full time players don`t want to drop down to the third tier, and there are part time players who would walk into our team. Over the past 20 years we have seen teams like Dumbarton, Alloa and Arbroath establish themselves in the Championship by being able to attract the best part time players. I`m not saying go totally part time, but needs must to get back into the Championship

Gave us a pretty hard time in the 4-2 game. I have an abiding image of him attacking at will doon the left wing. I can`t understand folk saying he`d be on the bench. In this league he`d be a no-brainer starter for me. I always liked his attitude - hard worker, with ability, seemed right for our club - one I regretted we parted with.

`one I regretted we parted with.`

Wasn`t it his decision to leave? He went down to the National League.

OK, whatever - he was one I`d really wish was still a Par. I felt similar about Euan Murray - they both seemed like proper Pars players to me - no` like a lot o` them that have passed through.

Not sure on this, as we improved up to the top half of the championship he was left wanting but given where we are now he’s probably a decent and possibly cheap versatile player for this season.

Safer bet than a raw teenager who’s barely kicked a ball in the seniors anyway!

He`s the right character, that`s for sure. There was a reason why the tone of the press release from the club when he left was different to that of others leaving.

Not for me - great guy and works hard but no better than what we have - we need width and/or creativity and he’s not the answer - don’t see him playing ahead of the current players.

One player I did rate who I felt was never given a chance was Reece Cole and as far as I’m aware he’s still without a club?

I would welcome him back. A good option in midfield, full back or on wing. Not going to dazzle but at least at the level of those we have and would provide competition for places as well as cover. I probably had him down as one of the players of the year when he was with us and I was also sad to see him go. By all accounts a committed and valued member of the squad and his attitude seemed superb on the pitch and in interviews. He might just be happy to come to us to, which seems rare and as a free agent he wouldn`t take up one of the loan slots. Can`t really see an argument against, except perhaps if he doesn`t want to go back full time.

Literally nobody - managers and players - likes a hybrid model, RSP. PT players have to train in the evenings, FT players don`t want to, especially if they have families and live some distance away - they`d be travelling to and from training in the dark for a good chunk of the season. FT players are also in 4 days a week, rather than 4 hours, they have at least a couple of gym sessions, time to review the previous game and discuss tactics for the next one. And injured players can get treatment from the club physio. How would you fit all that into two evenings of 2 hrs each?

Hybrid is the way to go.

Surely the club can be creative with the set-up to accommodate FT/PT.

As I recall a PT setup wiped the floor with the Pars 4 times last season. The FT wages at this end of the SPFL can’t be that great so PT may appeal.

So two months into the season we should switch from full-time to a hybrid model? What would be the ratio of PT to FT and how long would it take to achieve it? Would we switch back to FT if we won promotion? No football club with serious ambitions would contemplate that unless they were in a financial crisis.

So you would impose a set-up that nobody who has to participate in wants, Angus? What a popular man you would be.... 😃

Why not try something different, give it a shot & see if it works. Running a football club is not a popularity contest.
