Hope Porteous has a good game. The whinging online before a ball has even been kicked from blatant Hearts and The Rangers fans is out of order.

Well done, Scotland. Defended well when they had to and certainly not a backs to the wall job.
Porteous was excellent and made me eat my words. Seems he plays up to the fans at Hibs and gets over excited at times and does stupid things ?

Gordon top class. Hickey and Hendry could be fixtures for years. ?

In with the big boys now

How good was Ryan Porteous? On his debut with many (myself included) worried about him being the weak link. He didn`t put a foot wrong. We played a decent Ukraine team with so many key players out and I would argue matched them tonight. We had a few decent chances but defended excellently throughout. So proud of the team and now we are the only British team in league A! Mental to think that could happen! I`m guessing this guarantees us pot 2 in both the Euros and the World Cup qualifiers also?

Definitely pot 2 for Euros. Not sure how World Cup works. Isn`t there another Nations League before then?

We’ll still have a top top team in our euro qualifiers group, but we avoid the next best teams like England, France, Bosnia, Czech Republic etc. we only need to finish 2nd to go to the euros.

In a nutshell

promotion to league A means we will play Europes elite and no yon diddy teams like England

Seeded into pot 2 for the up and coming draw for the euro qualifying campaign

Guaranteed playoff place for the euros should it go Pete tong in our group

Come on ye pars ⚽️

England are relegated from A3, presumably to A4. We are promoted from B1 to A4 and Wales are relegated from A4 so swap places with us?

So A4 will be England, Belgium, Poland and Scotland next time around unless I`ve completely misunderstood.

No mate. England and Wales are relegated to the B tier. We`re promoted to the A tier. We`ll each be drawn into one of the 4 groups in the respective tiers.

Sorry, totally wrong.

England, along with the other teams that finished bottom of their respective tables in all the Groups A1-A4 (Wales, Austria, Czechia) are relegated to League B.

If UEFA and COMBEBOL get their way it won`t just be the likes I`d France, Italy and Netherlands we could be playing in League A but Brazil, Argentina and Chile. Great to grind out a result in tough circumstances and there is a decent core of younger players there. Need another goalie to come through and a striker to start banging them in and we might have a shot at getting to a fair few tournaments over the next decade.

Nations League isn`t so complicated, takes a minute or two of reading into the structure at most.

Correct - it really isn`t that hard to understand if you look into it properly.....

The only complication comes about if a team who qualifies for the 2024 play-offs then has a successful 2024 qualifying group as they would then forfeit their play-off place. Who cares about that - what a great position that would to be in!

Anyway - I think the Nations League is fantastic for countries like ours. It`s competitive & brings something extra to the normal international breaks. It`s certainly worked for ourselves so far.

The future is looking pretty bright.

Anyone who thinks the Nations League is a waste of time hasn`t been to an international friendly.

I was sceptical at the time but it`s been a fabulous addition.

Football never ceases to surprise and things can change so quickly. Not so long ago we were lamenting the lack of international-class Scottish centre backs. Last night possibly our best player was a guy making his international debut who wouldn`t have played if any of Hanley, McKenna, Souttar or Cooper had been available.

Now, if only we could unearth a couple of top-class strikers...

I think it`s only anticlimactic for the very top European nations - and their compensation is the fact that they almost always qualify for a major tournament every two years and frequently go deep into those competitions.

For the likes of Scotland, it is a fantastic addition. It matters much more than a bunch of friendlies, there`s a tangible benefit to winning your group but it`s not a catastrophe if you have a pool campaign. Also a chance of bring new players in to a competitive environment.

Seemingly a walloper in Australia is a slang word for a male police officer. In Ireland it is a cudgel or a shelleleigh whereas in Scotland it is a stupid person or something more obscene. In Glasgow we would probably say Wallaper, as in "yer a right Wallaper mate". I suppose it gets the meaning across purely by the sound of the word but isn`t a kind way to refer to ourselves or our fellow Pars.
