Boy has slotted in like he’s been playing with our back line from the start , guy is committed, not wasteful on the ball & a real asset for us. Long may it continue as our backline at the moment is formidable in this league

As well as being a solid defender he also has good distribution. James McPake has obviously done his homework on all his signings and has an eye for a player.

Don’t be silly. He’s done well for sure, he’s behind at least 6 likely more…Mehmet, Breen, Bene, Edwards, Comrie, Chalmers for the 1st name for sure

So far, Fisher has been fantastic. He compliments the other defenders very well. Defensively he has been solid so far. But it’s what he does in possession that has made him stand out for me. He’s so comfortable carrying the ball forward and driving the team on. His cross for the OG last weekend is far from the only time he’s driven forward and pushed the team on.
His introduction to the starting 11 has also allowed Comrie to move to wing back, which helped us get the first goal v Alloa. Comrie also had a good header saved against Edinburgh. So it has added a goal threat (albeit unexpectedly) when Edwards is crossing the ball in from the left. The team looks a lot more balanced with the current back 3/5.
Worth remembering, it’s only been 3 games, but the initial signs are that Fisher will be a great asset for the duration of his loan deal. Hopefully things continue that way.

He could be re called in January by Dundee, but that`s a danger with any loan.

I know for a fact that Sam loved his loan spell at EEP earlier this season and described the squad as a really great bunch of lads. I don`t think he`d have any hesitation in signing for us if Dundee decided to release him and James McPake wanted him.
I wonder how Dundee`s promotion will affect his chances of staying at Dens. On the one hand, they will want to bolster their squad with better, more experienced players, to consolidate their Premiership status. On the other, their manager will have a bigger budget and may decide that Sam would be a good option to have on the bench and offer him a new contract, which the player would find hard to turn down.
If the Pars had to choose between Fisher and Euan Murray, I would hope McPake would go for Sam. Euan was a good player for us but his best days are behind him. Sam is a good young player with plenty of potential.

From a purely selfish Pars point of view, I hope you`re right and the Pars sign him. Obviously for the lad himself a new contract and a chance to play in the top flight, would be best for him. Of course he could always play in the Premiership with us, in the not too distant future. 🙂

Seems to make sense for all parties to bring Fisher in, hopefully just a case of waiting until the season was over before announcing it.
On Murray, he`s a decent defender but felt his performances completely tailed off when he knew he was leaving that season. McPake hasn`t put a foot wrong recruitment wise, so I`m confident he`ll make the right moves going into the championship.
Assuming the squad situation will be announced on Monday/Tuesday in terms of who is leaving and who has been offered new deals

Do you think that`s an unfair or untrue comment to make? I wasn`t slagging him off. Murray was a very good player for us, but everything is relative, as Uncle Albert once told us. Fisher is a young lad with great potential. If he signs for us and develops into an even better player, we might get a decent fee from a bigger club. That`s unlikely to happen with Murray, given his age, but I`d be delighted to see both players back at EEP next season.

Fisher barely makes the bench at Dundee, the love in for him is pretty strange at best. Done ok against part time rubbish. Good luck if he signs but a player that’s played 20 senior games isn’t the calibre of player to win us the championship.

I do, yes. I still don’t see how his best days are apparently behind him. Generally, defenders are at their best around his age, rather than their best days being behind them, as you claimed. I’d argue there’s a good chance Murray has at least 2-3 more years at his peak, given the way that sport scientists have been able to help prolong careers in recent years.
Saying Fisher is more likely to progress is true, nobody would question that. But your initial post came across as if Murray was an old man who’s past it, rather than focusing on Fisher having potential to improve his game. That’s a very different point.
Murray is proven at championship level, Fisher isn’t. Fisher struggled for game time at Dundee and, if we’re being honest, he was rarely tested here. As I’ve already said, I’d be happy to see both here. However, if we want our best chance to get results now, I’d take Murray over Fisher.

Apologies if I gave you an unintended impression with my original post. I certainly didn`t mean to imply that Murray was old or past it. I was thinking of the length of a player`s career. At 29 most players will have about 10 years behind them and will do really well to stay at the top for another 5.

Yes, but your wording was best days. not days as a pro. At 29 I`d say you are about 50% through your best days. For a defender maybe just entering it.
Its not an exact science, there`s players who had the best season of their lives as teenagers and guys late in their late 30s who finally found the formula for success.
TBH other than potential transfer fee IDGAF over a players overall career trajectory, the only questions we should be asking is if the player is the best option to take the club forward over the length of their contract, for that both fisher and murray for me have very strong arguments and I can`t see it ever being a one or the other scenario, I think mcpake will chase both.

I`ve apologised for giving fellow posters the wrong impression with my poor choice of words. If it helps, I can offer to stand outside EEP and be pelted with over ripe tomatoes by those I`ve upset. I have nothing against Euan Murray, he was a very good player for us and I was very disappointed we didn`t manage to re-sign him from Hartlepool in January. If We`re able to get both Murray and Fisher in over the summer, my cup will positively overflow. 🙂
