Looking at their pitch and the conditions the now unlikely to go ahead...
How many times can they rearrange the fixture? or is there no limit?

Sub-zero temperatures tonight, creeping up to 1-2 C tomorrow morning then falling to zero before kick-off.
Hard to see the match taking place tomorrow evening if the pitch is unplayable today.

Can`t see this going ahead at all even if they switched to EEP. Temperature's not lifted all day and not much better tomorrow either.

If they switched the venue that would be unfair towards Dundee as they would lose the advantage of being drawn at home

That would be fair enough. Plenty teams have been penalised in the past for failing to provide adequate facilities. They were recently a Premier league side. They should have made an effort to bring their facilities up to the required level.

Why would Dundee Utd want their pitch cut up for a couple of quid rent money?
Starks Park would be a better option with the plastic pitch.

Don’t really know why there’s speculation over the ground the game will be played at, it will be dens, when isn’t clear but it will be there.
I am struggling to remember any game that’s been moved due to the pitch. We used to get clubs play up on ‘unsafe’ home grounds to be able to cash in on drawing a big club and very very occasionally we get league games moved, 2 games abandoned at Palmerston vs Ross County meant the game was finally played in Stirling but that was more over the distance travelled and that the games did start and a one or two Gretna games when they were playing out of Motherwell and the authorities were just desperately trying to make sure their games were played for the season before the plug was pulled.

Tragically, Dunfermline v Hafnarfjordor was moved to Perth because our pitch was unacceptable.

I was thinking the game may go ahead. But Dundee requesting a pitch inspection at 1.30pm tells me they know the pitch isn`t playable. Thats 6hrs ahead of kick off, I`d not be confident of being able to say it can go ahead not knowing what can happen in those 6hrs weather wise. But I`d be able to say that it`s not going ahead.
Its tuff being a Par but we love it!

Anyway I suppose I had it in mind it would have been off anyway.

For the mention of Dundee’s under soil heating further up the post, they confirmed in their statement that they’d told the SPFL a few days ago that they had no intentions of using it, due to costs and that it could make the pitch even worse.

The SPFL rules state that the club should have adequate pitch protection for winter weather and use it effectively. Dundee could get fined for choosing not to switch it on.

Aye, imposing a fine on a club with no money, for not spending money on USH, to get a game on that would have then lost them money - doesn`t seem in the best interests of the Scottish football.

Certainly wouldn`t be but that doesn`t usually stop them. Clubs will probably be thinking of more cost effective ways of meeting the rules such as covers which have an initial expense but don`t cost anything to use.

Livi v Dundee Utd was called off tonight at 6.30 by the match referee after passing a 3 pm inspection by an `assistant` although Allan Preston said that was a farce as it took less than two minutes.

It wasn’t turned on because it’s broken like ours is/was so not really breaching any rules are they? Even if it was working I doubt they would turn on a system that probably cost more to run in a day than this game will draw in through the gate money

Frozen ground, like heavy rain, is generally considered an "Act of God", which means that it is not considered to be anyone`s legal responsibility.
Some might argue that there can be a liability where an organisation fails to properly maintain infrastructure in bad weather, but would it be worth penalising someone for it or challenging any fine in court?
As DA-Go correctly points out, the economics of the Scottish game below premier status does not allow room for frivolous fines on clubs with no cash to spare.
No one wins in these situations. The fans who lost money travelling to a cancelled game will likely stay at home when the match is finally played at Dens Park. Both Dundee and the Pars will probably lose money playing this game.
It is a bum rap for everyone.
