PART 5 UP
A few folk seemed to enjoy the last one I put up a couple of months ago. I was going through a load of photos today, so have picked out some that should hopefully make for another interesting quiz.
There`s quite a lot of them, so will put them up in batches of 12, just to keep the tedious comparison to the Question of Sport pictureboard that I used to love so much when I was wee. I don`t quite have an equivalent of the stinker where they`d have a photo of someone playing a sport different to the one they were famous for (something like Gary Lineker playing golf or Gavin Hastings skiing while on holiday), but some are harder or more obscure than others.
First set has some pretty obvious ones and some are quite nice photos.

3. Easter Road
4. Excelsior (Airdrie)
5.
6. Dumbarton

10. Shielfield (Berwick Rangers)
11. Firhill
12. Pittodrie
5 and 9 are tricky, but there`s a good clue in the background for 5. 9 is a bit of a random one. Maybe obvious, but neither is an SPFL ground.

14 is indeed Gala`s very unusual stand. It`s an interesting ground as the stand looks so out of place.
Correct with Tannadice for 16, and I always think it`s quite a nice feature that the shape of the stand behind the goal is quite unusual to fit in around the allotments.
Not Firhill for 22 but it`s a good guess and I can see why it might look like the main stand there.

I have answers to 18 and 22 but, in Candid Cameron fashion I will place them in an envelope in my desk so as not to spoil it.
Good quiz - some of them took me several goes.
Can it really be 30 years since we played a pre-season game at Netherdale?

Got the others mentioned above, 18 looks like Kelty Hearts New Central Park, 21 I would say is Stirling Albions Forthbank and I`m not sure about 22, but the outside brick wall and mix matched roof is a bit like Pittodrie, so I`ll guess at Aberdeen

All the latest guesses correct to complete the set and so I still haven`t found a total stinker that nobody gets. Maybe in part 3 which will probably be next week.
Full list of answers for part 2:
13, Fir Park Motherwell)
14, Netherdale (Gala Fairydean Rovers)
15, St Mirren Park (St Mirren)
16, Tannadice (Dundee Utd)
17, New Douglas Park (Hamilton)
18, New Central Park (Kelty Hearts)
19, Links Park (Montrose)
20, Meadowbank (Edinburgh City)
21, Forthbank (Stirling Albion)
22, Pittodrie (Aberdeen)
23, McDiarmid Park (St Johnstone)
24, New Bayview (East Fife)
I think the difference in the at the left end of the Pittodrie stand (as shown in photo) dates from the fire at that end of the stand.
There`s a really good article about it here, including the brilliant photo of the Scottish Cup being passed out through a window and mention of a game that maybe turned the Pars season around in 1971 to avoid relegation:

As always, very impressed at how easily some folk recognise some of them, especially the more obscure grounds or ones where there isn`t much to go on. I thought Cliftonhill, Ashfield and Grant Street Park were all tricky.
I hope folk don`t mind too much that I mix in non-league grounds that most folk will never have been to, but for me a lot of it comes down to my feeling that football grounds are important places in the social history of Scotland. Smaller, non-league grounds are a part of that, and they also give hints as to how some of the grounds that we`re more familiar with might have started out.

Yeah 27 is the Balwearie High School AstroTurf, across the railway line from Starks Park and scene of the greatest goal ever scored where I volleyed in one at knee height from the edge of the box from a corner. Should have retired there and then really.
29 certainly looks like Bonnyrigg Rose Athletic`s New Dundas Park. 34 looked initially like Tynecastle to me but the floodlights aren`t on the stand roof so Easter Road is a good shout. Raging that Grant Street has already been identified - thought I was one of the few to go to a Clach game (v Huntly, about 15 years ago).

Well done all, all answers correct again.
25. Somerset Park (Ayr United)
26. Victoria Park (Ross County)
27. Stark`s Park (Raith Rovers)
28. Cathkin Park (formerly Third Lanark)
29. New Dundas Park (Bonnyrigg Rose Athletic)
30. Ibrox (Rangers)
31. Recreation Park (Alloa Athletic)
32. Almondvale (Livingston)
33. Cliftonhill (Albion Rovers)
34. Easter Road
35. Saracen Park / Ashfield Stadium (Ashfield, and better known for Glasgow Tigers speedway)
36. Grant Street Park (Clachnacuddin)
Stark`s Park was the sneakiest one, as the only bit of the ground in the photo is the back of the railway stand in the bottom right corner.
Easter Road was well worked out - the clues were the lights on the roof and the sun lamps at the halfway line opposite, indicating a tunnel at the halfway line. The fact that there are sun lamps at all also means it`s likely to be one of the bigger grounds so although it doesn`t give it away entirely, there aren`t many options.
I have enough for a part 4 (and 5) but will likely leave a couple of weeks before putting them up.

I haven`t been to Shawfield since the 1970s and in a way it is astonishing that it is still there and appears to be largely unchanged.
Clyde, of course, have long since left the stadium and having just Googled it, it would seem that the future of the stadium now seems uncertain.
Shawfield was always an oddity and a strange place to watch football. For some reason, I associate Pars games against Clyde back then with 1-1 and 0-0 draws. It might have been Firhill for thrills, but you always had a feeling that at Shawfield football had gone to the dogs...

I`ve had a lot of fun with these, so glad others have enjoyed them too and aren`t completely bored yet.
39 is indeed Keith - maroon is their main colour. So just 45 to get, and it is a stinker and probably the most obscure of any so far. To slightly narrow it down, it`s North of the Tay, i.e. Highland league or one of it`s feeder leagues.
As for Shawfield - if you look closely at the curved terrace at the far end, you can just about see that the bit at the back under the cover isn`t in too bad a state. Sadly, the front section is pretty overgrown. I never got to Shawfield but it`s the one (along with Somerset, North terrace there due to be developed soon) I`m most pleased to have got the aerial shots of. Even though the terrace is rundown, I`m pleased that it still looks much the same as it does in the old photos and I`ll be sad when it does eventually go, as seems inevitable. I wonder what Clyde fans make of the state of it now - mixed feelings, I`d imagine.

Oh, that`s superb - finally got it. It seems like I`ve spent the day googling every rubbish village in Scotland to see if it had a football ground.
The capacity looked very small, so I was convinced you had stopped off on the way to Dumfries to get some South of Scotland team, possibly one of the old division 3 teams.
Some of the angles really foxed me - I don`t recall seeing those enormous stairways at Dens before, or the castle at Stranraer. St Mirren looks like its on the edge of nowhere, but it`s the little clues I like - the favoured colours, or the glimpse of a landmark in the background.

If you`ve parked down the back of the Derry to go to Tannadice yoi may have seen those steps. Initially thought it might have been the way into the condemned terrace at Cliftonville before I noticed that was in another picture. The giveaway for Stranraer I think was the bandstand you walk past on the way to the ground. Think it must be the only SPFL venue to be in the middle of a public park.

Dufftown of the North Caledonian League is correct for 45, to complete the set. Well done to anyone who managed to work that one out. It was a lovely place to visit on a nice sunny morning and the rural setting, on the edge of the small village, is really nice.
It`s interesting reading the comments about Stranraer. I didn`t even notice the castle hiding in the photo and just thought it was one of the easier ones due to the huge ferry slipway and Loch Ryan in the background. Also, the railway line winding round and going right up to the ferry terminal. Just shows that we all pick up on different things.
Those steep steps at Dens have long been disused, but at one time I think they might have been the main entrance to the terracing there. I thought it was interesting seeing that they`re narrowed at the top, obviously a safety measure that caused congestion before the steps on the way out, but would have avoided a crush going down them. You can see some of the detail of the old entrance and turnstile block on googel maps:
https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@56.474224,-2.9742426,152m/data=!3m1!1e3
Probably one more set to come that`s simlar to previous, then a round of relatively easy ones to finish with, here the clues were a bit too obvious but which are nice photos.

I`ve picked off what (I think) are the easy ones, and look forward to seeing the answers to the others.

50 looks like Victoria Park (Buckie Thistle) - when we played there in the Cup a few years back I think I remember parking by that playpark.
51 is Rugby Park (Kilmarnock)
55 is Ochilview (Stenhousemuir)
60 is Station Park (Forfar)

Everything right so far, down to 2. And those 2 are hopefully not quite as obsuore as Dufftown in the last set!

That corner at Rugby Park is between the current away end and the new stand at the side of the park that tapers. I remember about 15 years ago, might even have been Stephen Kenny`s first away game, where one of those gardens used to have a trampoline - some wee kid was bounding on it and giving us the finger, which was most amusing. When it was the old bowl-shaped ground, did the terracing go right round there or was there a break? Just looks like there`s hardly any room for anything at that corner.

I think 53 might be Galabank, which is beside the river Annan, conveniently just out of shot.

"I think 53 might be Galabank, which is beside the river Annan, conveniently just out of shot."
Good shout! I had it I my head they had a wee stand on the road side but of course it`s just a fence, isn`t it?

Rothes and Annan are the right answers to finish that lot off.
The river close to Galabank is just out of shot right enough, but that wasn`t an attempt to make it difficult, just that in most of the other angles the lettering in the stand was clear and made it too obvious.
It`s interesting to see the mention of something being on the road side at one point. My main memory of our one trip there (early in the season, just after being promoted to the SPL in 2011) was some terrible banter from a small group of Annan fans standing there, culminating in `you`ll be playing Queen of the South next season` at a time when QOS were still a league above Annan. I`m certain they were standing on that side of the pitch. Maybe a very small area close to the away end at the bottom of the photo?
