Noticed a couple of online tributes mentioning him being the former ATARI president in his business life; didn`t think those dates would tie in with his age - is that a mixup with a different Ron Gordon ?

I think it is the same guy TAFKA - certainly the beeb are using the same photo as the Atari president. But I can`t trust any news sources these days!
