Where we are, where we could have been

The table as it stands

P. GD. Points

Dunfermline 27. 30. 62
Falkirk. 27. 27. 54

The table as it would have been after a 1 - 0 win for Falkirk

P. GD. Points

Dunfermline 27. 27 59
Falkirk. 27. 30. 57

That result was massive, especially in terms of the last round of matches. Falkirk now have the proverbial mountain to climb to win the league, whereas, with a home match to come against us they would surely have fancied themselves to pip us at the post. Confidence in both teams would have been hugely affected and it would have made for an even more nervy final quarter.

I’m not counting any chickens yet, but I feel a whole lot more comfortable than I did at 19:45hrs yesterday.

No arguments with the OP, last night was the proverbial 6 pointer. Lose that an the momentum would have been with Falkirk, they`d have been buzzing and our team would have been on a downer, even if we`d still have had a 2 or lead. Not what you want if you still have to play them in Grangemouth next month. That`s why I`m so glad James McPake had us go after them after the break. So many fans, including myself were saying a draw wouldn`t be a disaster. True but a win is so much better. 🙂

And you`re right not to count any chickens, usurpar. Keegan`s Newcastle blew a 12 pt lead in 95/96..... Falkirk are not Man U though and McGlyn is no Fergie. 😃

I agree usurpar, bearing in mind that, if it was a marathon, we`d still be about six miles from the stadium. It`s no time to be thinkin` o` the applause and the finishin` line yet.

I`m wi` Mcpake`s comments, i.e. celebrate for a day or two then get right back to business. Lots of hard games to come.

One bloody nose fae Peterheid wis enough tae teach us that we have tae be focused.

I think recent events have also highlighted how important the win over Alloa was at the weekend. Had we lost or drawn that, Falkirk would have made up some ground, and it probably would have knocked our confidence a bit.

We should be further ahead.

A last minute goal at home versus Airdrie wrongly chopped off along with a couple of stinking 2-2 draws at home to Peterhead n Clyde. Not forgetting the draw away to Clyde too.

I don`t think you can say that for definite. There have been other games where we`ve been a tad fortunate to come away with 3 pts and it all probably balances out. We are where we deserve to be. 8 pts clear at the top. 🙂

Yes...........

Matty Todd scored with a cross going nowhere till the wind deflected it in.

Last gasp against Edinburgh FC when Fontaine deflects it past his own keeper.

There`s four bonus points right there.

Agree that we are where we deserve to be. Can’t overstate how important the number of clean sheets we’ve had is either, particularly last night - Falkirk have been scoring plenty of goals recently.

Also, suspect that whoever gets to the promotion Play-off for the Championship will have a seriously tough match.

If my arithmetic is correct, we still need 20 points from a possible 27 to secure promotion….put another way, we still need to win 7 of the remaining 9 games; bearing in mind we still have Falkirk away and Montrose away (our only defeat so far).

Just shows how massive last night’s result was!

If neither drop points does it not go to our game versus them next time around?

Looking at it last night I think they had to drop a couple of points. It`ll also depend when the game they should have had on Saturday takes places and potentially when the semis are.

`If neither drop points does it not go to our game versus them next time around?`

I don`t understand the logic of this. Falkirk have 54 points from 27 games so the maximum points they can achieve is 81. We have 62 points from 27 games so we need 20 points from 9 games to beat them, ie we can afford to drop 7 points. If we lose to them at TFS we would still need to drop another 4 points in other games.

Forget about last night. It`s done.

Up to Peterhead on Saturday & just win. 11 point gap.

The next week we`re home to Edinburgh, they have to go down to Dumfries. Trying not to get too carried away but if we continue to do what we`ve been doing all season, being professional, we should be in an even stronger position very soon.

never count anything till its mathematically impossible for any other team to overtake us been thru heartbreaking times with pars 1984/85 took over 3000 to alloa 2nd last game win that wuin the league stevie morrison missed a penalty at 0-0 that cost us league so unitll we cant be caught dont count anything but 8points is great lead and this team never give up

8 pts clear but if they beat us its only 5.
A couple of draws, one even, would put us right back in squeekybum territory.
Still to play Airdrie away and Montrose away.

I don`t think they will win the last 9 though....but they could.

I think last night must have an effect on F*lkirk`s moral at least in the short term.
As decent as they were, they looked powderfuff up front and thought we have a much better and dangerous front line which should see us over the line.

If we emulate our points tally of 20 in the second quarter in the final 9 games they can`t catch us. We just need to keep on doing what we`ve been doing all season and we now have a better-balanced squad than at any time.

We have to have knocked their confidence and detailed their momentum...

Hopefully they get pumped by ayr and take that downer to a defeat by qos

That said, once they`ve blown the league title, I hope they find a bit of form again and make it through the play offs

Nah, I want the Falkirk banter era to continue. They can come up the following season maybe, if they`re nice.

Come on, KP. If you want to see us in a league with some atmospheric games, then Falkirk must come up with us. Imagine a Championship with Both Dundee clubs, Falkirk and the wee team. Or would you rather we had Ross Co and Cove?

Let`s just take it 1 game at a time and see where that takes us, hopefully to the league title sooner than later we hope.

They have won 8 games more and scored 11 more goals in our h2h.
We need them up with us so we can fix that.
