 Longest Winning Odds?
Topic Originator: GG Riva

While checking my Fotmob app, to see the times and channels today`s games are on, I noticed that the wee team are 29/1 to beat Therangers at Ibrox. They haven`t got a prayer, of course, but upsets do happen from time to time.

Many years ago, I remember a 100/1 shot, Foinavon, winning the Grand National when all the favourites fell, but this isn`t a horse race and the Lino Lickers will be like a cow trying to race a thoroughbred. What are the longest odds any football team has ever won at?

Don`t know abt a one off game , but were Leicester not something like 5000/1 when they won the league a few years ago?

I got 100/1 for us to beat Cowden back a few years ago, I think some got higher. Wish I put on more than a quid.

Ep. 7 of East End Tales is out now with Callum Morris! Match in focus: Stenhousemuir 4-5 Pars

There was a man who put 40 quid on Leicester to win the league and stood to win about 200 grand but cashed out for 70 earlier in the season. Imagine the heartbreak when they really did win.

I had Skerla to score first in the cup final at 80/1 if that counts.

I dunno it`s still 70 grand and there was a point where it looked like their bottle was crashing. Another punter put a fiver on them as he always did and cashed out for 6 quid when they won their first game.

Be interested to know when we were 100 to 1 to beat Cowden.

I think we were 50 to 1 when 3 0 down to Airdrie the other week.

I suspect that was to beat them 7-1.

I remember leaving the game at the final whistle and several folk kicking themselves because they had cashed out!

Don`t think the odds were that enormous, maybe about 10s, when a horse called Dunfermline won the Oaks and St Leger back in the `70s.

I remember Willie Carson was the jockey and he certainly filled the pockets of many a Pars fan back then, for we all has a wee bet on Dunfermline.

It might have done. I missed the 7-1 v Cowden due to a family wedding. πŸ™ I think our next game was v Forfar and some Pars fans put a bet on an 8-1 win. πŸ˜ƒ Unfortunately, we "only" won 3-0. πŸ™

Backed Dunfermline to win with Willie Carson on board but didn`t back Rosyrh when it won. Was at Cathkin that day and Jim Herriot was sent off!! What a miserable day.

I did a Google searching for the winning odds when Berwick Rangers beat Rangers in the Scottish Cup in 1967, but could not find them.

In Scottish terms, surely that 1-0 Berwick win would forever be the "gold standard" in terms of unexpected victories by a rank outsider?

I think fixed odds coupons at the bookies came later than 1967.

Yip . I was at Wembley that year (77) .
Had a tenner double Scotland 5/2 and Dunfermline 13/2 . Had a brilliant weekend and still came home with more money than I went down with . Happy days !

When Ed Milliband quit as Labour leader and Corbyn was looking for support to get nominated from MPs, his odds on becoming next leader were 5000/1.
I knew loads of Labour members and people joining Labour to vote for him if he got required nominations.
Was going to put a tenner on, then a report on the news hinted he had no chance of getting support of enough MPs to run so I didn`t bother.
Really regret not putting that on.

When the Pars won the β€˜cup in β€˜68 I heard that a lot of local punters went for the 20 to 1 odds ahead of the 3rd round draw - when Celtic at Parkhead was pulled from the hat the odds lengthened - nor sure to what though.

A nice little earner for the faithful come May !!!

Been a couple of 999/1 trades on Betfair (highest odds you can get on that platform) that went pearshaped.

England cricket match a good few years ago where it looked an absolute shoe-in for a draw, England were 999-1 and made an epic comeback.

Saudi Arabia were 999/1 in running on betfair to beat Argentina at the World Cup. A good few others I can think of too.Real Madrid beating Man City last year also springs to mind when Real scored 3 after the 90th minute.

A fiver on the Pars to beat Rangers twa nil in 1988 in the cup...50/1 was probably best win on a single... Nice wee bet running just now...Pars, Burnley, Arsenal, Dumbarton to win respective divisions. Auld fashioned bookie line..Could probably cash out online...Pars were evens end of December to win the league, free money if you had a spare few quid.

philltwo..
