He would say that considering the size of the Livingston support.

Sounds like something that the manager of a small club would say.

Not sure who`s arguing with? No-one from Dunfermline or Falkirk are saying we deserve to be anywhere other than where we currently are.
And I`m not having anyone representing Livingston preaching about "sporting integrity" either.

Don`t see too much of a dig at anyone there. What I do see is Martindale conflating size of club with position in the league.
We deserve to be where we are and Livingston deserve to be where they are due to performances on the pitch.
That crowd of 9.5k really showed how p*** poorly managed the Pars and Falkirk have been over the last few years to get ourselves into that situation.

I don`t think he`s necessarily having a go at us or Falkirk, rather defending the right to be in the top flight based on merit. He does confuse that position by appearing to defend broadcasting money based on 4 old firm games a season. My own view is you open up the top flight to more teams, take the hit around tv money and adjust to the right revenue level.

Can see where he`s coming from but does that mean Rangers weren`t a big club when they were in the lower leagues? Were Gretna a big club at one point? I would say Livingston are a better run club but are no where near as big. They would never get the fan base we`d get due to their location.

I have no problem with clubs like Livi and Hamilton being in the Premiership on merit. The disappointing thing is that, for all the years they have been there, they have not grown their fanbase. I suspect the same would be true of Queen`s Park if they got promoted.

I don`t think size of crowd is relative to league position tbh.
I`m not sure how I measure the size of a team personally but definitely have no issues about where any club is - promotions & relegations are fair enough (except for 1 covid season) so no club can really complain about where they currently sit.
Rangers, Hearts, Hibs & Dundee United have all been in the Championship in recent seasons. Just because the likes of Ross County, Hamilton, Livvy were in the Premiership can`t possibly mean they are bigger than those teams (with no disrespect intended).
Our history & crowd are bigger than some Premiership clubs but it`s harder to gauge against the likes of St Johnstone for example who have smaller crowds but have won a couple of trophies recently.
Always an interesting conversation, but there`s only 2 "big" teams unfortunately - the rest of us can be as good or bad as the others on any given day / season.
PS - plus there's only really 1 "Wee Team" šš¤£

Martindale is a tube. We (and the Scum to a lesser extent) are a bigger club than Livi. But they are a better club at this moment in time and thus deserve to be in the prem.
To say we are not a bigger team is just silly.
Its tuff being a Par but we love it!

No problem with Livingston etc being in the top league. However if he wants true sporting integrity, then money needs more fairly distributed. He admitted livi need tv money to survive, which is something that once you are out of the premier league massively diminishes. So for the ābigger clubsā to get back after a few years of underperforming takes years
We are Dunfermline, we're on our way back!

Seems like wee man syndrome to some extent.
Livi have done well, as have Queens Park. However, they could win the Champions League and will still be wee teams if the best they can muster is a few thousand in the stadium.
To me the size of the club has a lot to do with the size of the stadium, the facilities they have AND the league they are in. We have the credentials of a decent sized club but obviously sit in the third tier.

I can`t take exception to anything Martindale said, it all seemed perfectly reasonable. The number of fans who go to watch a club every week is just that - a number. Only what is done on the pitch should determine a club`s position in the league structure.
And I may be the exception, but I can`t really understand the obsession with claiming that one`s own club is "bigger" than any other club. To me it all smacks of the playground.
Each club is unique, with its own history, fanbase, achievements and current status to celebrate. At times a club might be in the Premiership or in League Two, but it`s still the same club (OK, I can think of one exception to that rule ...).

Interestingly weāre currently 23rd placed in Scottish league according to success on the park but weāre in 11th place in the average attendance leagueā¦ā¦..higher gates than two clubs that have had rangers, Celtic, Hearts, Hibs visitā¦ā¦..

Spells it out but IMHO he should not be anywhere near a prominent position in football. Misery brought to the masses leading to a serious crime conviction coupled with the taxman agreement he wangled tells the truth of all that matters.
