I’ve been living and working near Melbourne, Australia for close to five years now.
I was an EEP season ticket holder for many more years than I care to remember before leaving for Oz.
What’s remarkable is although I have adopted an AFL side and a “soccer” side, I just can’t get excited about it. This became all to clear when I watched the highlights of the Falkirk match. It was as if I was transported back to my happy place!
It’s one of very few things I miss about leaving Kelty. 😀 I’m only envious on a Saturday.

Not so much from afar. When I was young, my family moved from Fife to East Lothian. I decided to try to support Hibs as it was closest to me. I went to around 6 games but my thoughts and heart was always at EEP. When I was old enough I used to get 2 buses and a train to watch the pars every other week. Once a team is in your heart I found it impossible to support anyone else. 🏁🏁

dickand bert.
You are a lucky man to live in Melbourne which I think is a wonderful city. My daughter moved there 8 years ago and I have visited there 6 times and have travelled to many parts of Australia. I have seen one AFL match but did not understand the rules but have never managed to take in a real football match. I will however be at East End tomorrow.

On the soccer thing, I often call it that - especially when speaking to family in N. Ireland / RoI... If I used the term football in that conversation they`d assume I was talking about GAA (gaelic football)

Good one VEE. I should have added I’m learning some Aussie phrases and educating them in Fifer.

Hi Bald Eagle,
Melbourne is a great city. We live about an hour North. Macedon Ranges.
AFL rules change frequently like offside I guess. Easy to be confused. It is by far the biggest sport in Victoria. If you want confusing, look at a cricket scoreboard! 😀

Was out there working in February & paid a visit to the Melbourne Victory v Melbourne City derby
Victory were bottom of the league & City were top. My bet came in & Victory won 3-2 in an exciting match at a super stadium which is home to both teams.
Great entertainment & the best result was beer on tap in the stands………..but it’s no the Pars!

Hi Dick & Bert, we will be in Melbourne on Sunday to visit my son. I was hoping to catch a fitba game but can`t see anyone playing when we are there. Have tickets for the GP though. COYP
