 TV Scheduling. No common sense.

Let`s take tonight as an example. English Championship play-off (Yes, it is a big game) and the Champions League second leg. Both very watchable games that individually would garner big TV viewing numbers, but with them both being on at the same time will have the audience split.

Wouldn`t it have made sense for the English FA to switch the game to 6 o`clock?

Even EUFA showed a distinct lack of vision last week by having all the Europa League and Europa Conference games on at the same time. They could easily have scheduled the Conference games to start at 6 o`clock.

I honestly don`t know how some people get high profile jobs.

Do the European games not kick off at the same time to stop skullduggery?

Not great for those watching on TV but could be the difference between a half day or a full day off work for those that are travelling and for all the fans that are local it probably means no time off work for typical 9 to 5 hours.

I think it`s better for the folk actually going to the game overall although it is a later night for those that are travelling.

Whit are ye havering aboot, LA? 🤔

You could have "skullduggery" in group games but not in the knockout stages...

These fixture slots will have been arranged months ago - you just can`t reschedule kick offs without causing significant disruption.

Of course you can. If you`re the SFA and its your national cup.

The two wrongs making a right approach is no justification.

That apart, moving kick off times has significant logistical and practical implications.

This is exactly why those in charge of the game can never win. You have people like this, who only care about the TV viewing figures. But the match-going supported would not want a 6pm kick off midweek. For such a big game, attendances at the match should be prioritised, but even home fans would have to finish work early to get to a 6pm kick off. I know I wouldn’t want a 6pm kick off, as I’d struggle to get to the game and it would annoy me if I had to watch the game on tv just so that they can boost the number of viewers. It’s also nothing to do with the FA, it’s a league competition, so it’s the EFL that are in charge. But, as I say, I think they deserve praise for considering fans that want to go to the game, rather than trying to boost the tv audience at the expense of them.

Then there’s the other consideration of the fact games are on different channels. Tonight’s arrangement means sky sports viewers who don’t have BT could watch a ‘prime time’ game and vice versa. Moving a sky game to accommodate a BT game would just cause bother between the companies and p*** off fans. This is before you get into the amount of different subscriptions you need, to be able to watch these games. Should those who only subscribe to sky not get the prime time game/have to rush home from work, so that they can get the full game, so that those who have both subscriptions can get both games back to back?

Regarding the conference/Europa league games, the same points stand. UEFA can’t really get caught out by moving the conference games because it’s ‘just the conference league’ - if they started displaying that attitude, they would be as well scrapping the competition. Again, filling the stadiums and keeping those fans happy should be more important than number of viewers on tv. As it stands, those who subscribe to the channels that pay them their money are able to choose what games they want to watch anyway.

My sarcastic tone didn`t come through, pity as I thought it was pretty good at highlighting again how much of a joke our national association is in a relevant way.

Yes, the sarcasm slipped under the radar.

Rescheduling the Scottish cup final kick off time appears to have some support here in principle ?

Football sold it`s soul to the TV broadcasters a long time ago , TV scheduling is at the broadcasters whim, Premier/Viaplay Scottish cup won`t go up against The FA cup ,for viewing figures and advertising revenue.
