He`ll certainly regret being found out. I can`t understand why he was doing it. Many gamblers can`t really afford it but dream of a big win to ease their financial worries. I wouldn`t imagine Toney comes into that category.
Not your average Sunday League player.

Couple of reasons why I suppose.
Boredom - usually this is the excuse for less wealthy players.
It matters more when there`s money on it - as the slogan goes!
Insider information - improves your chances of winning and you can never have enough money...
Toney should know better. It`s not like he`s worked his way up from Sunday league and could argue he forgot or found it hard to stop.
It`s obvious this was coming so probably frustrating for those he`s played and scored against.

Goes back to 2017 when he was with Scunthorpe so not sure how wealthy he would have been

8 month ban from "all football related activity", effective immediately so includes close season.
Permitted to resume training in September so will be like a fully fit new signing for Brentford in January when he is back. Also likely to mean he will remain with Brentford at least until the end of the season whereas I`m certain there would have been interest from other clubs.
If he can regain his form quickly it could be massive for Brentford.

Surely Brentford don`t have to pay him during this time? I`d imagine it must be in his contract that he would need to refrain from gambling

Gambling is not just for those who don`t have money or dream of a big win. Many Gamblers its not the value of money that matters. If you have £2 in your bank you will bet £2 if you have £200,000 you will bet that.

He is allowed to gamble though, just not on football. Nothing stopping him betting every other sport.
