Some pretty shameful scenes at the Mestalla yesterday with Vinicius Junior subjected to racist abuse throughout the game, before being sent off for using his arm to free himself from a chokehold that went unpunished.
Spoke out on twitter before the chief of La Liga hit back at him for not attending meetings to discuss racism - could get spicy.
Of course Vinicius jr is in a lose lose situation here - if he leaves La Liga the racists will have succeeded in driving him out, if he stays you can be fairly sure he`ll continue to be subjected to racist abuse.
It`s a horrible situation.

Is that Tebas that responded? If so he has proven time and time again to be a self serving t**t

Shameful indeed, Bandy. Even worse, that La Liga`s president attacked Vinicius instead of leaping to his defence and condemning the racists. I`m afraid racism is alive and well to varying degrees, in Europe and beyond. A few years back the man who was running for the Italian equivalent for Serie A and B declared that there were too many "banana eaters" in Italian football. To my utter amazement, he was elected. (I think his name was Tajani.)
Several countries in Central and Eastern Europe have also brought shame on themselves in recent years, but before we get too superior, let`s remember that we`re not immune from a bit of racism in this country, but right thinking people are quick to call out and condemn those responsible.
Eta. Oops! Just googled past FIGC presidents. The racist idiot was Carlo Tavecchio. Tajani is an Italian politician.

Yeah - it was Tebas.
Seems like he’s a pretty loathsome character - and a member of the Spanish equivalent of UKIP to boot.

There are suggestions in the Spanish media that Vinicius brings it on himself by his antics on the pitch.
What chance has he got ?

It needs elite players and teams walking off and refusing to play. What happened to Vinicius at weekend is not acceptable. He was more or less assaulted in a choke hold and nothing happened. Same in Italy these incidents occurring far too often.

What does Vinicius do on the pitch Raymie? I`ve heard he does a Brazilian dance thing by the corner flag as his goal celebration which seems pretty tame - what else do he do?

Was there not a spate of incidents like this in Italy not so long ago? Teams rightly either did or threatened to walk off.

I remember Balotelli walked off the pitch because of racist chanting, was eventually persuaded to return, and scored a goal at the end that had been chanting abuse at him.

Was Milan`s Kevin Prince Boateng not sent off in a "friendly" game against Pro Patria for deliberately kicking a ball towards fans who were racially abusing him? Another totally embarrassing refereeing decision.

I’ve watched him a few times and he’s no better or worse than anyone else in the modern game. Will look for fouls, dive occasionally and have a moan at refs.
Regardless, racist abuse can never be justified in any context

The UK media asked that question to Klopp too.
