It is nowhere near as fearful-looking a lineup as last week—much more structure about it, even if we still have a handful of key players missing.

For the first time in a long time I`m fearing the worst. We`ve lost far too many key players to injury and the squad is now looking weaker than last season. Realistically, we only have two players that can make a difference from the bench. Hopefully I`m proven wrong by full time but Queen`s Park look far too strong.

But are Queens Park that strong? They`ve lost their last two games. There`s a sense that perhaps they flatter to deceive and that everything depends on Turner, Paton and Thomas. I guess we will soon find out.

Interested to hear what the Queen`s Park goalkeeper is like. 16 years old, being picked in the championship every week ,and has teams like Brighton watching him. Hope he`s terrible today 😂

Interesting. The BBC has got us playing 352, with Fisher, Hamilton, Otoo at the back; and Comrie, Chalmers, Summers, McCann, Edwards across the middle; O`Halloran and Wighton up front.

I think they are, especially up front OzPar. Hepburn, Thomas and Paton are all capable of punishing us, especially with Bene out. Defensively they look a bit suspect but attacking wise we are badly lacking. Jakubiak could be a great signing for us but he needs to get up to speed. O`Halloran hasn`t done anywhere near enough yet. He looked good against Dundee Utd but has been non existent every other game. Hopefully McCann and Wighton can give them a tough afternoon. It would be some achievement getting something today.

HT 0-0. If only McCann could find his scoring boots. In ten minutes between the 24th and 34th minute, he had FOUR good opportunities to score...
We`ve had most of the play, but QP were increasingly dangerous on the counter as the half went on.
The Pars were getting good value employing through passes on the right that were getting behind the last defender. O`Halloran, Summers and Comrie found clear open space down the right but all three players failed to capitalise.
I sense we can win this, but we need to see Jakubiak brought on to pose a different threat up front.

Thing is, as long as he is involved in plenty chances, theres more likely hood he will get 1 or 2. The worry would be if he didn’t have a single chance all game.
Great to see him bag a double today though! Plenty time for the hattrick

We have a good depth of squad and as JP said in his recent interview, it`s about being able to play a couple of systems and having a squad who can do that. We have players who can play several positions and that is a great strength of the team. I think it`s about teamwork and having good players who can play as a team. We have that in my view. I don`t subscribe to the idea that we are a weaker team more We have a different team and we play a different system. It`s good to see we are able to get goals from around the outside of the box. That will be important for us this season.

Fair play to McCann for plugging away, thought he had a really poor first half but got a wee break with the first and a brilliant second goal.
That`s the best i`ve seen Hamilton play for us, thought he had a great game and Fisher very impressive too.
QP will get caught out with that Man City tippy tappy stuff from goal kicks - especially on the big pitch at Hampden. Took us a while to suss it out but once we did their right back in particular must given the ball away at least four or five times.

Excellent performance and result. We should have led at half time but again the final cross/pass/shot was poor from some very promising positions. Fabulous free-kick from Lewis, after that we stopped playing a little but we defended really well, Sharp had one good save from Thomas, but apart from that not much to do. Queens had some possession around our box but didn`t produce anything of much quality.
Everyone contributed to a good display. McCann MOTM, but lots of others impressed. Fisher was excellent in the centre of the 3, O`Halloran did really well at RWB, Summers was very lively behind the front two (one assist and should have scored first half), Edwards strong as usual and Hamilton won a lot of balls in the middle.

I think we should stop all this nonsense about some of our players not being good enough for the Championship. P5 W2 D2 L1 Pts 8 and with a bit of luck we could have had more. We`ve already played the teams who are 1st and 2nd and haven`t had anything like a full squad available yet.
Jakubiak looks like a different option from Wighton and McCann. He can hold the ball up, has a bit of pace and should win a few fouls. McCann addressed that free-kick like a rugby player taking a penalty but got it under the bar and completely foxed the keeper. Pity we can`t see it from behind the goal. Talking of rugby, the tackle Hammy got booked for could have graced the RWC.
QP moved the ball about well at times but they`re very dependent on Dom Thomas to create opportunities and we did well to mitigate his threat.
There was some reference in the media interview to some needle with the QP bench but I didn`t notice anything at the game.
Only downside was getting on to the M74 after the game. Goodness knows what it`s like after a Scotland game.

Superb result and think quite important in the context of the season.
Already looks like a split between the top teams and the ones at he bottom (Morton/Ayr/ICT). As
mentioned we’ve played most of what look like the top teams for the league, Dundee Utd/Raith/QP and there is absolutely no reason why we can’t in the mix for at least a play off position.
Hopefully we can beat Morton in the next game which will reinforce the above and by the first round of games be in a decent position, with key players to return.

Looks like Morton did the business today at Tannadice, coming away with a point. Again, this season, there will be no pushovers. The more teams that give Dundee Utd a good shake, the better. We managed to lull them into a false sense of superiority last week and today Morton held them to a draw. And with the wee team taking the points late on, the big heads from Dundee are presently second best.

If I was a betting man, I would challenge you on that DBA. I`m certain Dundee Utd will not cruise this league. Dundee only won at the very end last season and I can see a very close run thing this season.

A bit more confidence and self belief among our players might take them up another couple of positions in the table and into contention………..Summers has still to find his feet and get a wee bit more stuck in, while Moffat looks pretty lively to me………once we get KRH back and a wee bit of form hits some players……..we could be a very good footballing team…….

Their highlights have conveniently missed out the lunge on Edwards and elbow on McCann within a few minutes of each other near the end of the game, hopefully our version shows them?

We will comfortably be able to compete at this level and should only get stronger as the season unfolds. Its prudent to remember that the goal for this year is to compete and survive. Once Todd returns we will be competing for 3 points in every game.
As had been alluded to in the past we will be receiving offers for Fisher, Todd and possibly McCann by the end of the year.
Hopefully we can quietly go about our business and be there or thereabouts by the end of the year.
Its not how you start the season but how strong you finish through Feb march and April.
I am quietly confident and have been since promotion.
I`m sure the squad are too.

Very impressed by the win and performance of the players yesterday. Something we`ve often struggled with in the championship is winning away from home so that`s terrific for the confidence. Jakubiak looks to be a decent signing and we can freshen things up now between him and Wighton.
Considering the injury crisis you have to be pretty happy with 8 points in 5 games given the fixtures as well, hopefully can follow up with a home win over Morton next week who have conceded 12 goals in their 5 games played.

I think it must be 40 years since I was last at a league game at Hampden. On that occasion Shaggy put us in the lead, if memory serves, but we lost 3-1. We might even have been playing in red that day too. As Tom Forsyth had not long quit we had a young caretaker manager in temporary charge who I remember mainly for having to be restrained by his backroom staff as he raced down the touchline to remonstrate with the linesman, as they were called in those days.
It was nice to have a free car-park right at the ground, but getting home was a nightmare – I’m not sure if Celtic playing at home was a factor, or people avoiding the LEZ. I thought I saw Socks driving in the “wrong” direction which was probably sensible in practice.
Hampden itself is a strange place to watch football – you get an uninterrupted view but you are so far away from the action. And is the food the most overpriced in the game?
Obviously we were considerable stronger than for the game at Tannadice although the bench was a bit light – Tod must have a dozen appearances now so he would have counted as relatively experienced had he been there. We looked more coherent – whether that was because Queens didn’t put us under so much pressure or the players are beginning to gel I don’t know. I thought 2-0 was about right; again we spurned some good chances, but McCann made up for it with a wonder strike. He may never score a better goal at the national stadium.
I’m still finding it hard to tell the difference between Summers and Moffat. The former has good skill but I don’t think he gets involved enough, and his first thought seems to be to beat his player, which may become predictable. O’Halloran was a little bit better again – I hope he continues to improve. Jakubiak looks, on the basis of 30 minutes, more in the traditional of powerful centre-forward – maybe not prolific but may set up others.
Now that we are five games in, the division is starting to take shape. I am surprised at how well Arbroath and Raith are doing and at how badly ICT and Ayr are doing. I think we are at least as good as Rovers so assuming our injury situation improves we should be optimistic about our prospects.

I’ll stick my neck out and say Fisher will be sold for a big fee before his contract is up
Agreed. I`ve said it since preseason that that boy is a player. Reads the game well, has an excellent range of passing, and is good in the air. He was an absolute rock on Saturday.
Yes, he`ll make mistakes, but he`s a young boy. More often than not though, he is solid.

Interesting that Dundee inserted a sell on clause into the contract when we signed him but didn`t value the player enough to give him many opportunities

That’s like trying to argue that we don’t value Taylor Sutherland because he hasn’t played many games yet. There’s a huge difference between not thinking a young player has reached the level expected of a first team regular and not valuing a player. If they felt they had better players in their starting 11 (which they probably did), then Fisher wasn’t ready to be a regular there yet. But they can still recognise potential and see him as a future asset.
Dundee clearly valued Fisher enough to offer him a new deal. They kept him at the club for a number of years and helped make him the player he is now. Also, it’s probably Dunfermline that negotiated the sell-on, rather than paying a larger upfront fee. It’s as much to our benefit as it is to Dundee, it means that if he doesn’t fulfil his potential or leaves for free at the end of his contract, the overall cost is minimised.

I hadn`t thought about the possibility of a reduced fee in exchange for a sell-on clause, par-91.
It makes sense

The performance of the back three on Saturday allayed the fears we all had about how the defence would fare without the inspirational leadership and organisational ability of our captain. Fisher, although only 22 and short of first-team appearances, was the most experienced in that position and set the standard for the others. Hopefully they can see us through until Bene and Breen return to give the manager some other options in that area.
