The former Rangers and Scotland centre-half has died aged 83. At one time we had the choice of him, Billy McNeill or Ian Ure as centre-half for Scotland. I recall he had a (twin?) brother, Donnie, who played centre-half for Partick Thistle.

Ronne McKinnon was a good centre half and unlike many tall central defenders, he was well balanced when drawn out wide to deal with attacks down the flanks. He used the ball pretty well for a defender of that era- I think he`d played as an inside forward in an amateur team alongside Fergie whom he knew from school.

I remember he was the guest of honour at my junior Boys Brigade display in Kelvingrove Church. No need to guess which team our BB leader followed.
He played in the famous team of the mid sixties:-
Ritchie, Shearer, Caldow, Greg, McKinnon, Baxter, Henderson, McMillan, Millar, Brand and Wilson.

Yes, Donnie was his twin.
Ron was the man of the match (my opinion) for Scotland v England, Wembley 1967.
Hurst and Hunt hardly got a kick of the ball.
Their parents (mother just ?) came from one of the outer islands - I sure I read somewhere that they had a working knowledge of Gaelic.
RIP

Sat next to him at a masonic dinner in Stornoway. Great company and some fantastic stories during the day.
Lovely man, sadly missed.
