If rumours are true we will be in the market for a new left back after a 6 figure bid for Edwards from an English league one team.

It’s not out of the question, Stoke were sniffing about Edwards for a while previously.

Max Boruc @ Hibs is possibly going to Arbroath on Loan! Seen him a couple of times at Hibs and he’s a really decent keeper! He’d certainly be one I’d love to come to EEP. Definitely a step up from Mehmet!

Courier reports that the Pars and Raith Rovers are leading the chase for Zak Rudden from Dundee. Although it says there are plenty of clubs after him.

Falkirk shift out Jordan Allan (who they paid money for bizarrely when he doesn`t fit McGlynn`s system) back to Clydenon loan and bring in ex-Raith midfielder Dylan Tait on loan from Hibs. If they don`t come up this season they never will. Here`s hoping Hamilton can pip them somehow!

Think there would be a meltdown here if Rudden signed for Raith, especially since they seem quite well off for centre forwards. He`s a bit different to what they have mind you, but I`d make us favourites to sign him if he comes to Fife.

I like Edwards but would be surprised to see any bid of 6 figures come in, he hasn’t looked too good for our current level and I assume league 1 is a step up. Not sure he’s at his best as a wing back in current formation as his delivery tends to be poor.

Just hope if he does go he’s replaced with someone with a few games under their belt.

Ridden would be interesting, I think he would offer us something different, has workrate and knows where the net is so has the best bits of McCann and wighton.

At some point we’re surely going to make a better offer than others clubs for someone!

Can’t say I know much about any of them. But having a Quick look, it seems like James Brown is a RB, that can cover LB and CB. If he’s fairly decent, sounds like he might have the versatility we need right now.

Ballantyne has had a lot of loans to Montrose, but doesn’t seem to have many goals/assists. Can’t say I remember him at all, but I’ll trust the manager/recruitment team to do their research before bringing anyone in.

Was really hoping we’d have another player or two in by now, but hopefully that’s sorted in the next week.

Jephcott seems to have general fitness issues or lack of fitness more like from the sounds of it, cant say know anything about Ballantyne really.

Brown and one not mentioned there in McClelland, NI u21 centre half who could be available on loan after injury might be options but does it makes sense with what we already have when they are fit which has to be considered.

We have 4 senior at the club whose primary position is CB and we play with a back 3. 2 of those CBs have missed around 70-80% of the season so far with injuries and another has suffered 2 concussions. We shouldn’t be building a squad assuming everyone will be fit all the time, we need defensive cover and I honestly thought that was obvious to everyone.

If the club is in as fire straights as some suggestions on here surely we would take it? Maybe shows how much dung is laid here by some.

If it`s over or near 100k I think we take it all day. I personally don`t think he will thrive south of the border. His crossing is very unpredictable and mostly doesn`t cause defenses much of an issue and I think he will be found out on the defensive side of the game as well.

That being said he is an important player for us at this point in time hence why we haven`t taken the "offer" until we have a suitable replacement lined up.

c'mon the pars

I don`t think they are assuming that.

4 CBs, but then you`ve got midfielders + full backs who can all fill if required. Sensible approach to building a squad, having utility players that can cover a few positions. We`ve just been incredibly unlucky with injuries this season.

Thats fine fcda but I don’t think we’ve a balanced enough squad to drop the likes of Hamilton into defence leaving no one in midfield who can win the ball back.

Especially with so many young players with so little first team experience then being relied on.

Feels like we just need that little bit more experience, hopefully if we can get another 1 in it’s an experienced pro.

Mostly agree, but maybe Otoo can play a similar role in midfield.

No doubt we need players in because of the injuries.

He`s apparently after a move to Ireland. It does sound like they`ll only move for Rudden if Gullan moves on.

It`ll come down to terms imo. Ultimately, money is usually the biggest influence. If we offer the same money then it comes down to club profile. I`d say we have the biggest profile in the league after Dundee Utd. Then there`s reputation. I`d not be sure if DU as they`re hemorrhaging money and they seem to have sold the family silver. I`m impressed with Raith but even with their success they still attract small crowds. How long can the success be sustained with small crowds? The Pars are a bit meh. Financially stable but no chance of promotion this season really.

If you are after a player on loan surely you just have to pay the club his wages? If we were in competition with the Rovers for Rudden presumably we were both prepared to pay his wages so it must have been down to the player`s preference or maybe Dundee`s? Are clubs allowed to pay financial incentives to potential loanees?

It is far from an exaggeration to suggest this has been one of the most shocking windows of recent times for us.

Club were open and stated they wanted players with “wow factor” - don’t all clubs , but regardless, open communication is something the club has historically been bad for. They set out their stall and made it clear they want high quality signings.

What’s happened in the time since however has been shambolic to say the least, especially considering the extreme injury crisis we are enduring and have endured for much of the season.

When Malachi Fagan-Walcott arrived on loan, it was suggested another may have been immediately around the corner - that never transpired.

We’ve then proceeded to embarrass ourselves by leaking to our good friends at The Courier that we’ve failed to sign Eamonn Brophy on loan not once, but TWICE! Was it a case of shooting too high perhaps? Or was it because we’d waited too long and County had probably got far on in negotiations to loan out Alex Samuel to highland rivals ICT?

Since then, we’ve been linked with Zak Rudden on a loan deal from McPake’s favourite signing hotspot, Dundee Football Club.

Sure, he’s got the option of joining a potential league winning side in Rovers or a mid-table, Pars team but where is the ambition to get these guys? If we want wow factors we’ve to offer wow wages, wow transfer/loan fees etc.

We’ve also bigged him up in the media saying how highly we rate him and it now appears that he’s set to sign for Rovers.

Is another end of window statement coming like last time with the “we tried, couldn’t get anyone else, soz” message regurgitated?

The buzz from last season has been absolutely zapped from the club this term and now attending seems like more of a chore than a pleasure but blind faith keeps me turning up regardless.

We love Dunfermline We do!

Can`t disagree parsloyal.

McPake want`s better than we have, which means higher wages presumably. Club won`t do that coz `we`re skint` according to most people on here, and by the looks if it, we do seem to be.

People now going on about different reasons why we can`t or won`t sign boys, fair enough, but in the Crawford days we were signing plenty and good players at that.

If its solely down to the club kyboshing player after player because of budget then how long is McPake going to hak it ?

You criticise the club for poor communication then also criticise them for making public that they made two attempts to sign Brophy!

Re the player they hoped to sign along with MFW Dave Mackay says on COWS that he is still with his club in England and suggests we are still interested and any deal will have to be done by 31 Jan as it`s cross-border.

Why can`t fans understand that during the transfer window the selling/lending club is in control and a club like ours isn`t in a position to force their hand or accelerate a deal?

Clubs aren`t alone in giving info to the media. Players or their agents will be passing on stuff for their own benefit. The club can`t win with some fans. If there are no rumours in the media it`s assumed the club are sitting on their hands. Now you`re accusing them of leaking info which might influence a potential target`s view of the club!

It`s frustrating but everyone just has to have patience.

Whether it was the club or not I suppose doesn’t matter in grand scheme of things but Rudden will know he was 2nd choice after our failed Brophy attempts. If we sign a striker they’ll know we’ve went for them as a 3rd choice. If that were me, I’d be a bit hacked off knowing they never had the confidence in me to make me their first choice

Would be different if it was a lack of numbers versus quality. It`s not fringe or squad players missing it`s the spine of our team.

We cannot afford to sign direct replacements on long term deals as the guys (if/when) they are fit would leave us with too big a squad and wage bill; would be financial suicide.

Ideally we`s be getting in experienced player(s) on a short term deal, maybe coming back from a bad injury or someone who`s contract due to run out in summer and not part of their managers plans beyond the end of the season.

It`s a pretty simple question is it not? Rovers running a bigger playing budget due to external investment.

How do we not have much of a wage budget? Are we paying the youngsters we got from the old firm a big chunk of the budget?

If we’re absolutely skint it’s time to worry, so far otoo looks like the only player we might be able to sell on. Theres far more we’ll be stuck with next season than we’ll be lucky to keep.

Otoo and KRH will be on decent money, at least what they were on at the old firm.

It`s important to add that 1k a week is 52k a year, we ain`t gonna be paying a January signing much more than that without making space in the budget

This is what James Mcpake said . provided insight into the ongoing transfer window, indicating that more players are expected, though not likely for the upcoming match. “We still are working away and expecting more to come in. It’s not so much a domino effect now because you can see a lot of them moving, a lot of teams are moving people on. It should accelerate a bit now because the Premier League needs to finish on Wednesday.”

The Wotherspoon signing didn`t go through because the 2 parties were £100 a week apart.
I assume from that we have a wage cap in place which obviously doesn`t apply to the 6 figure sum the CEO collects.

Let`s wait until the end of the season before passing judgement. It could be that the Rovers are throwing everything at winning the Championship because they know the play-offs are a bit of a lottery for the runners-up. If the gamble doesn`t come off they could have another expensive season in the Championship.

It depends on your outlook. I suspect Dundee Utd will finish top. Raith likely second and then could go up through the play-offs. However, it`s risky as one bad game and they`re stuck in the Championship. However, I`d argue the investment isn`t lost as the hope would be to have an established squad to fight for promotion the next season. The risk there though is that teams in the Premier or other Championship teams start picking up your players over the summer. There`s risk everywhere, you just need to accept how much risk you`re willing to take. The Pars board seem risk averse, but for good reason given our finances and lack of a real safety net.

I don`t think our situation is unique. Every day you hear managers say they have a few irons in the fire and will have to see what transpires. Even Brendan Rodgers could give no assurances about signings in the window.

Signing players in the mid-season window when most players are under contract is extremely problematical.

It’s not the mindset that’s the problem. It’s lack of some quality and experience. Some of these players were relegated before and from memory they certainly didn’t roll their sleeves up when the going got tough.

Agree Boss, I’d say if it wasn’t for Hamilton we couldn’t easily be bottom, it’s that bad. Total over reliance on the only physical player we have in a physical league. (I don’t include McCann as he does very little with the ball when he does win it back)

Shaping up to be 2 poor windows in a row and some poor poor decisions with existing players now contracted into next season.

We can just hope we have enough to steer clear of trouble this season or we can help by bringing a couple of experienced heads in until the end of the season.

If there’s no money now, there will be no money next season as all the higher earners are here to stay.

New management team and some performances have been on par with Grant and Hughes. How much is the managers fault, who knows?

Wee eck, You might want to happy clap until the end but there are plenty of supporters who are really concerned at what is happening at the club. All over social media people are asking why we can’t sign players. It’s not even like we’re trying to sign “wow” players like what McPake was quoted as saying the other week. These guys are average players and we can’t get them in the door. Something isn’t quite right.

Is it really just this month that’s been poor transfer wise? I mean yes we got KRH and Otto and a couple others pre season but I remember McPake and Cook talking about getting a few others in, which didn’t happen and some players we were linked to went to other championship teams which we shouldn’t be losing to imo since we have better facilities etc.

So is there something more to it? Are we losing players to other clubs because of something within the club? Are we playing hardball when we should be a bit more accommodating?

I don’t know but outside of Dundee Utd, I see us having the best ground/facilities/fanbase etc which should be a big draw to a player, but for some reason it’s not happening.

We tried to sign Wotherspoon and Brophy, both international players. How high should we be aiming? You don`t know who we`re trying to sign but you seem to be sure they aren`t `wow` players.

Boss, the `happy clapper` insult gets a bit tiresome. Maybe I`m just a bit more realistic than you. You don`t do irony, do you - accusing the players of not being up for the fight when you seem to have thrown in the towel yourself?

Like a lot of Pars fans, I’m concerned about our lack of success in the current transfer window. This is particularly difficult to stomach, given our horrendous injury list, which has been an unlucky feature most of the season. I’ve no doubt the Club are trying to sign/get players in on loan, but with our injuries we should have been more proactive. With a run of significant home games on the horizon we will hopefully get a few players in next week to bolster/improve our squad.

It has to be concerning we were told that the german owners group weren`t putting money in for the squad which is fair enough. They kept on banging on about this rosyth project one where they needed other funders to get a shovel in the ground. While no money has been spent on the pitch. So is rosyth costing considerably more than they expected if so why? Who are these other funders? What is their plan to get the money back ?

EEP is still below where it should be on match days with no signs or plans of improving. I just wonder what the plan is to keep us up. The board has already said how much being in league 1 costs a club like us.

I think the fans who are voicing concerns have a legitimate reason considering we don`t seem to be an attractive destination.

There are loads of things that has been suggested and fortunately for me where THAT money comes from and what it goes to is someone else`s job at the club who is paid to make these decisions.

But I will humour you with a few suggestions. An undersoio heating system that works since we always have a system failure when we use it. More than one or two turnstiles open when it`s back onto the main road pavement from the Norrie is just a few that spring to mind.

But if we aren`t improving things on the park and not maintaining the things around it what are we actually doing?

Personally I don`t know our financial situation BUT David Cook did squash rumours of financial problems at the recent supporters meetings so what are we doing behind the scenes if we aren`t improving the squad or EEP.

c'mon the pars

We tried to sign Wotherspoon and Brophy, both international players. How high should we be aiming? You don`t know who we`re trying to sign but you seem to be sure they aren`t `wow` players.

Boss, the `happy clapper` insult gets a bit tiresome. Maybe I`m just a bit more realistic than you. You don`t do irony, do you - accusing the players of not being up for the fight when you seem to have thrown in the towel yourself?

It also gets tiresome when we get classed as pessimistic etc when we have genuine concerns.

Irony? I haven’t thrown in the towel. I hope they prove me wrong but I’ve seen enough this season to know we need a bit of experience in there. I think most folk can see that.

I am being realistic. We look to be heading for League 1 and I believe more fans should be more concerned.
I imagine Arbroath will finish bottom but if we finish second bottom, we all know what our record is like in playoffs. Things can become very unpleasant at East End in the next few weeks if we don’t start grinding out results.

No doubt Raith are gambling on promotion this season and hence are willing to take the financial risk. The question is, will they go up and will they be able to stay up. Our situation this season is different, newly promoted, and as such, we need a season to consolidate and push on from there. The development site is obviously behind programme due to Covid and other factors so it`s taken longer than expected to pull things together. I think next season when we get over the injury situation and the younger guys have a season under their belt in the championship things will be better. Trying times but that`s life

Rovers are throwing cash around this season but probably not much in this instance.

Gullan leaves for an `undisclosed fee` plus his wage is freed up. They immediately loan in Rudden.

Probably not costing them much extra, if anything at all. Good business again from them sadly.

Considering John Potter Director of Football, Andy Barrowman CEO , both went through the lead up to Administration at East End , would make me think they will be watching the financial situation at the Rovers .

There are two financial risks as I see it.

1. The financial gamble on being promoted this year
2. The financial cost of going up and any cost implication around players` salaries, ground improvements, and running costs.

They may well be doing business in the transfer market, but this can be counterintuitive also. Do they have any players coming up through a youth system? Granted revenue will improve but I would be interested to know if that is likely to balance the books.

If rovers do get promoted do they have to remove their plastic pitch immediately or is there a grace period for promoted clubs? Would be a fairly costly renovation I would imagine

- Don’t think they have actually voted to ban yet so likely there would be grace period anyway - killie said they would get rid of by 25/ 26 season and Livingston shrugged their shoulders and as usual said if they got paid to do it -( if they are still in premier league )

I think you need to waken up to the fact that our owners are not going to throw money at a short term solution.

They just need to finish above 8th this year and I think they are confident in doing that without risking the long term plan by splashing cash.

I know it looks scarey to some but I agree with them. Mid table this year and hopefully better luck next year

Surely the cost of putting a grass park back down be higher? Under an astro pitch is a layer of concrete and tarmac, which Im sure you wouldnt want to lay natural grass turf on top of, so would need to remove that as well.

I`m pretty sure our plastic pitch was £500k and Yorkston claimed it cost £200k to go back to grass. That was almost 20 years ago so I imagine that both numbers may be a lot higher now!

Josh mcpake will be a player our manager knows from his Dundee days having had him on loan. Appears his star has fallen somewhat having not had a club since the summer.

A winger tho, if he’s got any pace and can deliver a decent cross I’d take him, although can’t quite see how he fits in with the 352 formation we play.

Dunfermline Athletic are delighted to announce that 20 year old centre back, Xavier Benjamin has joined the club on loan from Cardiff City until end of the season, subject to international clearances.

Xavier started in the Fulham youth system and played 27 times in the U18 Premier League before at the age of 18 making the switch to the Cardiff City Academy in June 2022.

The defender made an impact on joining Darren Purse’s young U21 side, he quickly took on the captain’s armband and led by example. A commanding presence in the Bluebirds’ backline, Xavier was named Cardiff City FC Academy Player of the Season in April 2023.

Xavier who has dual nationality English/ Jamaican, has played for Cardiff this season in the EFL Cup and on 6th January this year he started against Sheffield Wednesday in the FA Cup.

the Courier also mentions the Tommy Smith link and it not happening.

one window closed, two still open. take a punt on McPake and/or Fletcher? wait and see what comes up as loan options from the top flight? loan out a couple of the kids if injuries clear up? can still see further changes to the squad happening.

I would imagine the offer was Edwards would have been 100k, surprised we turned it down maybe tried to negotiate and they had other targets.

I agree on the creative player, we really needed a more experienced creative player, Moffat and summers have been very inconsistent and you really don’t know what type of performance you’re going to get from them. Summers seems an enigma, never seems fit but still seems to play

Seen a figure of £150,000 mentioned but we`ve extended his contract so he still has 18 months left. That kind of sum is chump change down there, and I think we might see a few bids of that sort of figure in the summer.

Fletcher not an option anymore. We can’t bring him in until the summer window now. Free agents and loans from the Scottish Premiership only.

He must be a free agent if he was playing as a trialist.

Well there’s nothing online about him being released and he’s still listed on the Middlesbrough website as their player.

Pretty sure you can trial players who are registered at clubs and play them in reserve/friendly games - they just cant feature in first team matches

There is an article on COWS added today which is talking about the 6 figure bid we knocked back for Josh Edwards was like signing a player. While it is good news, I didn`t realise that he is out of contact in the summer as stated in the article. A 6 figure bid for someone who can leave for free in a few months is not to be sniffed at. I guess they had to weigh it up against not having a replacement and the difference he might make to what division we are in next season

Not necessarily, depends contract to contract,

I suspect ours is the clubs right to extension by 1 year.

No that’s not true. McPake said a wee while back that we would be triggering it so it’s obviously unilateral.

There is a balance to be struck with Josh Edwards. The opportunity for him to advance his career and the needs of the club and the investment they have put in. I suspect the natural opportunity for him will be to move on in the summer to give the club the opportunity to bring in new players and prepare for next season. It`s an important run in now to the end of the season for the club to avoid relegation and he is an important part of that. In my view if he remains professional and sticks to the task, it will raise his profile and give him better options in the summer.

If he goes south it will be interesting to see how gets on. Jackson Longridge made that journey a few years ago but didn`t manage to establish himself at Bradford and is now at Hamilton I think. On the other hand Andy Robertson...

Andy Robertson was 19 when he went down South. Josh is 23 so he`d be doing well to get anywhere near Championship level at his age, but good luck to him once he goes.

Raith Rovers bolster their defensive options by taking 26 year old James Brown on loan from St Johnstone. Ian Murray thanks the Board for their backing. St Johnstone must be well off for defenders, they lent one to Dundee Utd earlier this week.

I’m disappointed we didn’t go for him when he was available on deadline day. Surely he’s more proven than gambling on two youth team defenders?

He’s played 61 games for them in last three seasons, so probably the sort of experienced defender we have been crying out for ?

Let`s see how the Cardiff boys pan out after a few games.

It depends if he was just looking to play until the end of the season or wanting to go out on loan to a club that he hoped would give him a permanent deal afterwards ?

A solid signing, the type we should have been in for.

The Rovers will be hoping that he helps them "Get Up, Get On Up". It`s another financial outlay for them, but they will be hoping for The Big Payback if they get promoted

What they will get is that he`s exactly the kind of player we should have been looking at (cue the cries of "How do you know we weren`t?!?!"). Raith are becoming annoyingly astute in the transfer market, although you could argue some of their good signings on paper (looking at you, Kyle Turner) haven`t quite worked out yet.

Feels pretty conclusive to me we’re going with what we have for the rest of the season with everyone crossing thier fingers and hoping someone, anyone in the team can find some form.

Da no1 I’m assuming there won’t be anymore young loans as think we have had about enough of them and can’t see many experienced players being freed now who were not available before last weekend.

All the eggs were in the Cardiff youngsters basket, would love to be proved wrong though.

The new boy although had an absolute shocker is captain of the Cardiff u21 so there must be a player in there somewhere.

He was thrown in the deep end, fingers crossed they all get up to speed quickly and last week was just a blip.

You would have expected the captain of Cardiff under 21’s to get some of the basics right….

English U21 and U23 league players are rubbish. We haven`t had a single one on loan from this level who was any good. If they are not playing real football by this age they are never going to play real football. They are just making up the numbers
