Two weeks til I move so these away fixtures = packing.

In between the bubble wrap (and trying not to let the cat have too much fun with it)(ok, not just the cat) and the 1970s melamine Tupperware, I’ll attempt to give you team news, predictions and the other SPFL Ch scores as they come in.

If ye get there afore me dive in.

Team doesn’t have any natural width - can’t say I like middle to front but injuries are hindering to the end it would seem.

Can`t see us scoring at all today. McCann is useless and too many of our "big" players having off days. Lucky it`s only 1. Massive wake up call needed.

The wind seemed to dominate that half. From the looks of things, the wind should be in our favour in the second half. McMaster scored a good goal from a short corner, and on balance, Airdrie were the better side. But we are certainly not out of this.

I am like you Row ZZ cannot see where we are going to get a goal from , but I live in Hope even for an OG
It`s not the first we have been undone by a corner where players have switched off ! This is a must Win Game if we wanted to have half a chance for 4th Place, looks like we know the Top four already ! but as said before Unless we buck up in the second half I cannot see where we are going to get a goal from ,

“I`m not sure how a striker can "give me the fear" “

Boy is useless, lazy, couldn’t hit a barn door from 10 yards, game to goal ratio for a striker is rank, never looks interested, wanders around looking lost as if he doesn’t know where he is, definitely not good enough for this league or any other. Do i need to go on and the fear meaning that every time i see his name on the team sheet i know we are going to get nothing from him why mcpake keeps picking him I don’t know we have other strikers on the bench. Rather use the not tried and tested rather than McCann who gives nothing for us. Why I need to explain myself to u da no 1 I don’t know.
Usual on here say something the prim and proper don’t like and your guaranteed a smart erse comment from from someone that kids on you don’t know what your talking about.
It is a forum for opinion not to get picked up on. I have my view you have yours. Obviously we differ or may be put things across different

Lack of squad depth telling again, take hammy and jak out and their replacements are vastly inferior players.

An on form airdie would be a handful even with a full strength team but always going to be a struggle while having to carry players.

queens park getting a late equaliser would be the best result for us.

Last few games if we are safe we should give the likes of Fenton and Sutherland some game time.

Really need queens equaliser…

Extremely disappointing losing that. I seriously thought we would have won today. It’s deflating seeing Airdrie battle for promotion and we’ve lost out.

We just need to secure our status in the championship now and rebuild for next season. I would except us to be nearer the top next season but we need to get the signings correct. I imagine Falkirk will fancy their chances coming up next season too.

Just need to get a result next week to make sure we are safe then start planning for next season. Hopefully move on a few who aren`t of the required standard and get a couple of bodies in to push on next season.

Overall a disappointing season but in context where we were with injuries it could have been a lot worse.

4th spot was going to be a tough ask. Airdrie are playing well and arguably a better football team than us last season. The ficus now should be to win as many games as possible and finish as far up the league as possible. There have been a few lessons learned for this season so we need to reflect on tgat fir next season.

Annoying that Airdrie have lost one of their better players from last year in Devaney and only really brought in one or two (including Todarov) and finished miles behind us this season yet we`re going to be well behind them this season. This wasn`t us struggling to put a team out either - barring Jakubiak and Hamilton it was arguably our strongest XI. Shows you how good a coach McCabe is and Airdrie will hope he wants to keep playing as that`s the only way they`re likely to keep him.

Bit of a rebuild needed - the way Chalmers, O`Halloran etc have been used (or not) since the injuries cleared up suggest that we may try and move them on to a Hamilton or Queen of the South for free?

Disappointing end to a pretty uninspiring season but all things considered its target set at the start of the season, met.

Given the number of injuries we’ve had, we’ve done well to have even a whisper of a chance of getting 4th this far into the season.

We need to do the business next week, get us mathematically safe so we can start working towards next season which if it wasn’t the most competitive league already, it certainly will be coming up.

With a fully fit squad to start the new season, with ideally a few of the loan boys signed up and additional incomings to replace a few I think we can agree would be worth moving on we’ll be in the hunt.

Got to say I thought airdrie were excellent, that was probably the best performance I’ve seen against us this season. Mehmet would be mom for me today, too many others played poorly like Bene, Kane, Hosler. McCann was good too, worked hard up front and defensively and was a bit unlucky with a couple of shots. Hope he’s fit for next week.

Todd is a shadow of his former self. Does not look fully fit. Otto is defo better at LCH. A liability in midfield these days. The Chalmers debate is surely over now…
Defensively we are ok and if we can get MFW in then all the better. Our midfield is still lacking a good playmaker. Up front ? Well that is the part of the team that really needs fixing for next season and imho I don’t think Kane is the answer either…

Fair result……

MotM DenizM some outstanding saves kept us in the game. We looked out of sorts from the kick-off, team had no fluency about their play and we were getting caught on the ball far too often. Airdrie had a plan their team was well drilled & they stuck with it. We were constantly getting caught out in midfield & were not picking up runners.

No point in slating any individuals we just weren’t as good as Airdrie on the day. Need one more win.

Everyone has their own opinion but I couldn`t disagree more regarding Otoo. He`s better further up the park for me. Carries the ball well and has strength. He will keep improving. I think he is our biggest asset.

As for today`s game, no complaints. Better team won. We looked like we couldn`t be bothered. Allowed Airdrie to play and sat off them. Just didn`t click today.

Think the team knew the season was done at half time at arbroath and the fight went out of them after a long season for a number of them.

Airdrie have some intelligent movement up front and good width and attacking players. They could shock a few teams in the playoffs as they did last year.

The way I see it we need to find a way to get a couple of these out of contract players out the door if we are to move forward next year. Not sure how we do that unless we get lucky or have to pay them off.

We need to sort out upfront and the supply to the strikers. Our top scorers in the league this season have 4 goals.

It was a poor performance, I`m not usually jilted when we lose but we were miles off today.

Their second goal was an absolutely comedy of errors. Mehmet pulls off the saves but he cannot control his box. Overall I think he can rest free of blame this time.

The subs were baffling and it`s clear we only have one starting 11 that works because the subs slowly neuter us. Missing hammy in midfield.

McPake needs to take some of the blame today for his rigid tactics. Why does Holmes even come on? Surely Sutherland has to get a game at some point after the usual suspects have proven ineffective.

We could of nicked a draw here but let down by shambolic defending again.

That was grim . Airdrie were far superior in every department . Maybe apart from goalkeeping , Mehmet saved us on several occasions . It was alarming how easy they found it to get through our defence . Hopefully, we can get the points to finish 5th , and put this season behind us .

How does KRH get away with no criticism? He was probably our worst player last week and again this week. For the 1st goal, He was On his heals and the attack breaks down, chases the boy back and gives away a free kick on the edge of the box. That goes for a corner, he`s sleeping and they take it short and smack it into the top corner.

Also really struggling to see what Otto offers if he`s not tackling? He really can`t pass a ball and hasn`t found a man all season with a pass. When he runs with it, he looks lost and just runs into the opposing players.

If Chalmers came close to doing any of these things, all hell would break out. At one point today, someone was shouting at chalmers for not shutting down the Airdrie defender. When it was pointed out that he had a man in midfield and Otto was the free player, "well, he could still close him down and leave the midfielder to Otto" was the response. Not saying Chalmers is a good player, but surely it`s time to start seeing things fairly and holding all players to the same account and not letting "fans favourites " have a free pass.

Although I don’t rate him all that highly, I fancy Allan will leave this summer to free up space. He’s better than chalmers but once again when the music stops chalmers has found himself under contract.

We have a decent first 11 but nothing else in the squad outside of that.

Oh well, play offs now gone. I said at the start of the season that if we can finish mid table and consolidate after coming up last year, I’d be happy. Given our injuries this season it’s more than acceptable when you take everything in balance, if that’s where we end up. Next season, we need to be pushing for the playoffs however.

Call this a meltdown if you like, I don`t much care. But I`m going to be harsh on McPake because he deserves it today.

Airdrie played well and no doubt they deserved to win. And it wouldn`t surprise me if they make it up through the play-offs, because they have an ability to move the ball quickly that is unmatched in this leage, except perhaps by Raith Rovers when on form. But, our manager`s job is to put out a team and play in a way that gives us the best chance and I think he failed at that today.

In the first half, it seemed that we wanted to out-Airdrie them, play the game their way with that short stuff from the back coming back. And there only looked like being one winner if we persisted with that because, quite simply, they are better at that kind of football than we have ever been this season. Airdrie are the only side I`ve seen this season who look like they can be effective with that style, mainly because they are able to move it fast compared to the slow tedium when teams like us and Ayr have tried it. It`s hard to press, because they are good at exploiting the space it leaves behind. And our best attack in the first half? Probably the one long pass from Benedictus over the top that almost created a chance. But no, let`s play ineffective short stuff - if we`re lucky we can get all pretentious and talk about having a philosophy, a load of utter mince.

A few players had poor games in the first half, but I`m not quite sure how Hosler survived the half-time subs. He was utterly awful in the first half playing on the right, and several times was in totally the wrong position when they broke on us, meaning players had to shuffle over to cover gaps, inevitably leaving another space elsewhere. I thought he was poor last week too, but that first half, when most of his work needed to be defensive, was seriously bad.

After the half-time changes, it looked like our two deeper central midfield players were Moffat and Todd, with Hosler slightly ahead. How were we ever going to win much ball with that setup? It looked utterly crazy to me. If the change at the back was due to injury then we had a centre half on the bench (who came on later anyway) and I think I`d prefer that to a change that took O`too out of there and left a midfield that was already struggling defensively to becoming weak beyond belief. I just don`t get it at all.

And for all that we were set up badly, the goals that decided the game were an absolute joke. The first was the worst. They had a corner on that side earlier where another player had to go over to hold the ball still, and I was thinking at that time that if they took it short between them, we could be in trouble as we were completely unaware of the threat. And the second time, they did take it short, only Hosler reacted and we lost a crap goal from it. Mehmet was totally justified in being raging at it.

The second was a quickly taken free kick that we weren`t ready for. Credit due to Airdrie for exploitin

The second was a quickly taken free kick that we weren`t ready for. Credit due to Airdrie for exploiting it, but so frustrating to watch us completely switch off again.

It was a decent enough game to watch and quite open throughout but I`m not too fussed about pretty football, and would rather we play in the way that gives us the best chance of winning. And for me, that`s a real failure of management.

Poor stuff, and not much to feel positive about. I`d really have like to be at least another point further ahead tonight, but hopefully we can do enough next week to get something in what is now another big game.

Airdrie are a proper team, they have chemistry and know what every other players job is and where they should be. There is no shame in finishing behind them considering the season we have had.

They`ll do well in the playoffs and if they can keep the management team will be there again next season.

We have to focus on either getting the loans signed permanent. Or getting like for like replacements when they leave. If we can secure jak and kane, mfw and mwh for next year we will be looking good for a positive season.

Once we have secured our position we should give the younger boys a run out and see if they can handle it.

I assumed we pushed the budget to get these guys in order to try and keep us in the league and won’t have that budget at the start of next season. .

Beaten today by a team that was superior in their tactics and their movement both on and off the ball, we were chasing shadows first half and constantly gave the ball away, after our injury crisis i would have gladly settled for 5th or 6th, unfortunatlyeven with most of these players back we are still badly lacking in most departments, a lot was expected with the return of KRH and MattyTodd but neither has set the heather alight on their return. the majority of the loan signings have failed to make a real impact except possibly MFW who looks like he woild be a quality signing if possible. a big shake up is needed for next season if we want to be up there challenging and a lot of deadwood needs moving on ,

I do have the odd game where I can`t work out our shape, but I`m surprised at some of the comments about how we were set up yesterday.

3-5-2 in the second half (with Todd and Moffat slightly deeper than Hosler in midfield) is what I`d say too, but surely it was a back 3 in the first half too, in a 3-4-2-1?

We have often had this as a basic shape and drifted between a 3 and a 4, but I didn`t notice too much variation yesterday. Hosler absolutely was playing on the right in the first half and if he wasn`t playing as a wing-back, I don`t know what else you would describe his position as.

I don`t really agree with Raymie about him having no defensive responsibility, as I don`t think any player should ever be allowed that luxury. But maybe we do need to find a shape that allows him to get into better areas further up the park.

Several things to comment on regarding the whole experience.

Was anyone else caught in that horrendous downpour on the M8? It was absolutely lashing it down for a couple of minutes and visibility was dangerously poor. Fortunately it soon cleared but the residual wind was quite strong.

The guy in the car-park (only one, and he could usefully have been defending his lines at least 10 yards deeper to alleviate the queues on the main road, and telling you how much it was) suggested that there were more away fans than anticipated. I don’t remember ever being in the south stand before, and it was quite packed – despite there being empty stands elsewhere and masses of free seats taped off. Why is the paying customer treated so badly?

I found myself sitting behind various relatives of Pars players – lots of Chalmers, Tods, Comries and Allans. This was quite awkward as Uncle Joe (sounds like Stalin – could really have done with a Man of Steel in midfield) wasn’t exactly being showered with plaudits for his performance – I think it was his wife who lost patience at one point and claimed that he was “keeping possession”, which to be fair he was.

I continue to find this “philosophy” enormously frustrating. There were several times we had the opportunity to get the ball in the box and maybe create a half-chance, but we preferred to spurn the opportunity and recycle possession, often via the goal-keeper. This might work at higher levels, and maybe even at the level to which we aspire – not sure it worked yesterday.

Of course, Uncle Joe was hooked at half-time and I’m sure his group considered leaving but since the very young kids in the party were happy playing with their dinosaur toys, they hung around. Perhaps I should take a stegosaur to the next game to amuse myself when we are playing endless balls along the back 5.

I’m not sure what the formation was in the first half – I assumed it was 3-5-2 with some movement within that, but we seemed to be overloaded on our right flank and light on the other side; we moved to a more obvious back3/ back 5 in the second half.

Airdrie also like to footer about with goal kicks in their own goal area – we pressed them well but once they got past the front 3, then our midfield seemed to sit off them and allow them uncontested possession. So I have a question of the .net tactical experts – if the front 3, say, are pressing does the midfield also need to press or are you running the risk that if they play past them as well, then you are in real trouble?

Another point is I noticed Kane getting a bit frustrated; once he made a run to the front post creating space behind him, but when the ball was played there, there was no-one expecting it. Is it possible to be over-coached and under-coached at the same time? To my mind “coaching” (often it seems more like instruction) reduces spontaneity – players do what they are told to and go where they are told to go, which can make for dull and predictable football. Yet sometimes players seem to persist in making the wrong choice in forward areas. I know Raymie has made this point before, but what specialist coaching are our forward players getting? Sometimes I think KRH and McCann don’t know if they are coming or going – although the latter had some good moments. He does need a goal though.

Looking back at the goals, we were caught napping for the first, but we should have had time to sort it out – it looks like KRH tries to block the shot but it goes in awfully easily. Similarly we were slow with the second but MFW has to do better. Mind you, if I were a Diamond I would have been raging with our goal – nothing wrong with Moffat holding the ball still – he takes his finger off it before it’s in play, but MFW is completely unmarked at the back post. He seemed almost embarrassed when he scored.

As I said, the wind was a factor. In the second half the centre-backs would prepare for a short bye-kick and then Mehmet would wave them forward – sometimes his kicks looked like some of my drives – the wind would get them and they would disappear at right angles out of the park. Of course, by that stage our midfield had Moffat and KRH in the middle – presumably we were hoping to get the ball down and play it on the deck, but it didn’t really work.

It looked like MFW wasn’t as mobile as normal, but it was Bene who went off, giving the armband to Edwards, who must be 4th choice captain – I note the players had black armbands on after the death of Wattie Logie. Bene had just made a last ditch challenge – I assume it wasn’t a pen as the one thing the ref would have been concentrating on was whether he won the ball or not. Tod had a brief cameo (he doesn’t look over-coached..) and took responsibility for the late free-kick but couldn’t reproduced his heroics of midweek. One last note – Mehmet wanted to come up for the last minute corner but didn’t get permission which was a shame, and possibly an error.

Overall, it just didn’t really happen. It looked a lot like a midtable end of season clash against a team that is slightly better, in difficult conditions.

With a fraction of our crowds and resources. And a strike force of Pars rejects.

So it`s management and coaching that`s the issue?

I`d say yes. It`s a mad league and thats the beauty of football that something can be made from very litle but we have the 10th highest attendance in Scotland, a large following and a big stadium.

We definitely don`t reflect that.

That was really my sentiment. Forwards are the first line of defence in terms of the press. I don’t think he should be in the right back position as often as he finds himself
