The former Pars player has been sacked as manager of Stirling Albion after they were relegated from League 1.

Feel sorry for him. Great guy let down by the board, wasn`t given a larger budget than last season.

Let down by the board?

Where were they to get the money from? A club can only spend what they have.

Indeed - no magic money tree at Forthbank.

If you go up a league, surely you would expect to be given a bigger budget?
Imagine we tried that going up to the Prem?

Pretty sure that`s exactly what the previous owner did in 2011, EET, and we all remember how that season in the top flight ended for the Pars. 🙂

Not your average Sunday League player.

There isn`t much difference in attendances from League 1 to League 2, also I`m sure the prize money isn`t great either. He was also aided by Edinburgh being demoted.

I reckon they took in about 100k in gate receipts from the 2 Falkirk games and Aberdeen tie this season, plus a little extra for getting out the league cup group stage.
Their crowds are about 400 up on average, which is significant at that level.

I think the idea clubs like Stirling have is to just survive for one season in the next league then splash more cash.
Gambling is a fools errand with such a small fanbase.
It’s tough on Darren Young but I’m fairly certain he’s known the terms of the deal at the start of the season.

Average crowd, 1100 x 18 games x £15 average ticket price ? £300k income ? I don’t suppose they rake in much else ? £300k is pretty thin money to pay for 25 players + manager + coaching staff ……….. £10,000 per man ?

I go swimming at the Peak sports centre twice a week - a few months back I went into the SA club office and asked to buy a club baseball cap for a friend in the USA who is an expat from Stirling.

The office guy left the admin work he was doing and went out of his way, above and beyond, to take me over to the club shop - which meant entering the ground and opening the storeroom to dig out the hat - all for a £15 sale.

I think that indicates how important any income is to such small clubs.

That’s before deducting vat, making adjustments for season ticket discount or concessions. But they’ll also get prize money from SPFL every year for league and league cup, as well as Scottish cup money, which will be fairly significant.
