 No mobbing referees
Topic Originator: Parboiled

..at Euros. Only team captains will be permitted to speak to referees to challenge a decision, a card to a teammate, ask for clarification etc

Seems sensible and could become the norm across the leagues?

Good and hopefully is adopted everywhere else…

Only negative I’ve heard is if the captain is the keeper and the incident takes place in opposition box, unlike rugby the captain is much further away

quite right, as said looks bad if its the keeper needed to come up but sure common sense will come in on that.

Has been a standard rule in other sports for years - I refereed competitive Volleyball in my younger days and only the captain was allowed to approach the match official, and then only to ask for clarification as to why a certain call had been made.

Aggressively challenging a decision absolutely not permitted.

Could be easily rectified by allowing teams to have a vice captain in such a scenario?

was about to say this - surely you can designate a player that can liaise with the ref if its outside of the box?

So only one player per team allowed to call the ref a blind, cheating bassa?

It`s bloody tough being a legend

There is the tossing the coin bit, encouraging your team mates etc, but no official role. If this initiative becomes the norm I think it would see outfield players rather than goalkeepers being given the armband.

Just thinking of Roy Barry back in the day...he “defended” himself quite a lot!

Though I’m sure I once saw an opponent he had clattered put in a good word with the ref to be lenient. Sadly to no avail though, early bath for Roy!

I`d go further. Introduce the sin bin and send anyone (who isnt the agreed player) mobbing the ref there for ten minutes. Old Firm games would be five a side for most of the game 😂

Was this not introduced in the English PL the start of this season, was actually very closely adhered to with bookings often however seemed to fade away as the season went on.

sure it was no more than 3 players and the 4th to approach would be cautioned.
