 New Head of Refereeing ...

...is Willie Collum!

Willie Collum wants to "alleviate the unsustainable burden on match officials" when he replaces Crawford Allan as the Scottish FA`s new head of refereeing.

The 45-year-old will take up his duties in early July after resigning as a local authority education officer.

Collum will end almost 30 years of refereeing – 20 of which were spent as a category one official and Fifa international referee – with immediate effect to replace Allan, who leaves the role at the end of the season.

Collum refereed at Euro 2016, in four Scottish Cup finals, two League Cup finals and in more than 250 Fifa and Uefa club and international competitions including the Champions League as well as World Cup and European Championship qualifiers.

Standard Scottish football.

We had the opportunity to make referees full time, instead VAR was brought in.

If the want is there, so is the money. But all controlled by the Glasgow big two.

I thought Jon "Mossy" Moss was coming up from the Greatest League in the World [TM] to show us how it`s done?

Personally I think he`s the best of what we have, a very low bar I know. Has shown the self belief to stick with his original decision and not be swayed by VAR a few times. One of the very few. Also isn`t afraid to give decisions against Sevco, despite them wanting him banned for refereeing their games because he gave a decision against them. John Beaton he isn`t.
Agree it should be professional refs but also that their know bias should prevent them from being in charge of "their" team or their nearest rival eg John Beaton should not ref games involving Rangers or Celtic given his well publicised celebrating in a Rangers pub after his performance in an old firm game.
There should be a pool of professional ref out with the control of the SFA. SFA needs refs, they go to the pool & the pool "owner" allocates refs. This pool could be Europe wide. It would cut down the "local" biases in football in general eg Jim Renton from Cowdenbeath in the 1970s who never ever gave the Pars anything, & proudly boasted it at a Cowdenbeath after dinner speech ..allegedly.
