Raith Rovers will have something new to contend with in their Premiership play-off final against Ross County – the use of VAR.
The video assistant referee system will be in place for the two-legged promotion/relegation showdown.
Preparatory work had begun at Raith’s Stark’s Park
And the necessary cameras are now being installed at the Kirkcaldy ground this week in time for the first-leg of the final against County on Thursday.

Re the Goodwillie saga - I was a
huge dissenter towards their club for that very reason. A massive mistake on their part and I know of a few fans who have never returned.
I very much doubt it’s been forgotten about, far from it.
They’ve tackled it head on, brought in the right people and had a good season; and now facing what could be the biggest game they’ve had in a very long time.
I know it’s football rivalry - and when we’ve played them I’ve loved the derbies (not so much the results, this season). I wish we had been better v (still the Wee) Team.
They’re within touching distance of the Premiership and for that I wish them good luck. Nothing more, nothing less.
Not sure why folk are getting their knickers in a twist.

Always liked Simon Murray even when he was at Dundee Untd. I think it was but seemed to lose his way for a while but certainly back on great form now. Talking about players who seem to have lost their way a bit, it wasn`t so long ago that Nisbet was ahead of Shankland in the picking order in the Scottish team. Maybe injuries played a big part with him slipping out of international consideration.?

The result is no real surprise. I didn`t think that the Rovers were not much better than many championship clubs. They scored goals but don`t think they were particularly head and shoulders above anyone. It`s a good indicator in terms of where we need to be with respect to athleticism and physical strength.

The cynical side of me says Rovers couldn’t afford to go up having needed to rip up their pitch but the football side of me says they were streets behind Ross County on the pitch in both games in any case.

I suppose it`s a realistic position. I think that crowd numbers and finance are obviously linked to a teams success in the longer term. The premiership, in my view, is on a downward spiral. Rangers and Celtic will be the two teams vying for the top spot, the remainder destined for mid-table or fighting it out at the bottom. It will be predictable and boring. The championship, on the other hand, will have a number of clubs with very little between them. In terms of competition and crowd numbers, it is going to have a level of excitement in depth that the premiership won`t offer. Hopefully, that will translate into bigger crowds and a better atmosphere.

The Premiership is just depressing. You`ll never win it unless you`re Celtic or Rangers and then if you spend to try and get third or fourth then you risk losing a fortune. It wasn`t that long ago that ICT were doing pretty well, now they`re in the 1st division and moving their base to Kelty!

Yesterday there was the Southampton v Leeds game bragged along the lines of the “biggest game of football in the world” at estimates of £150m. I think that bragging is absolutely what the problem with football is and it is only getting worse. I cannot understand why this something to brag about.

The results at Kirkcaldy and Dingwall just reinforce the reality that the poorer teams in the SPL are generally stronger than better ones in the Championship.
I wonder how Dundee United would have fared had they had to play Ross County, or even Livingston to go up ?
Depressing reality for wanabee clubs in the second tier with ambitions to join the top flight.

As I`ve said for ages, the financial disparity between top and bottom is only widening. This includes the top tier to the championship, they`re trying to kill off competition by only sending scraps whilst the same old clubs bumble along in their cushy little places in the top flight.

The Playoff system is designed for the lower team to fail, self preservation from the league above when it got brought in. The winning finalists potentially have 4 games including ET in less than 2 weeks, before getting a crack at the Premiership team.

John Robertson pointed out yesterday that it`s only the 3rd- and 4th-placed teams in the Championship which suffer from having to play extra games. Whilst they are playing off the 2nd-placed team have a rest but then they have to play the winners over two legs. However at this stage the Premiership teams are still playing League games which decide which team faces the Championship side so they don`t get any advantage of an extra rest period. It could be argued that it`s fair that the 3rd- and 4th-placed teams should have a tougher route to the Premiership than the other competitors.

The Championship club in the final has a squad that was assembled to be competitive in the championship. Obviously the Premiership club has one designed to be competitive in a higher league. It`s a stacked deck before the game has even kicked off and also why does the premier team get the second leg at home? Why given yet another potential advantage?

I don`t really think it is. Although the Rovers seem to have been well beaten this time, last year Partick Thistle came very close. Maybe Ross County just played well to get a lead this time, then had enough to finish it off when their opponents had to go for it later on.
What I really don`t like about these play-offs is how is how critical the scheduling is. Usually the first round winner has to go straight into the second round after just a few days, but last year Partick Thistle had a full week, and then another full week before the return game. That`s a massive difference. When we qualified in 2018, we played last league game on Saturday, Dundee Utd at home on Tuesday, Dundee Utd away on Friday, then they played Livingston the following Monday after beating us. Sat-Tues-Fri Mon is a lot at any time, but especially so when it`s big, emotionally intense and draining games.
This year it looked quite well set up for the Rovers. As well as the return to normal schedule, they had two days more of a break than Ross County who didn`t finish til the Sunday and who also had a big game at Perth the previous Wednesday.
I`d far rather it went back to what it was in the 90s, with a straightforward home and away play-off between second-top and second-bottom.

Few mentioned it earlier but the physical difference looked just as big as the difference in quality which was surprising.
Brian Graham was probably the best forward in the league, alongside arguably Louis Moult but he was injured for parts of the season, and Simon Murray looked like an upgraded version of him in the two games. I thought they`d have fared better against St Johnstone but that was just hypothetical so we`ll never know.
Will be interesting to see how Dhanda gets on at Hearts. Guy is an absolute baller no doubt but switched off a few times when they didn`t have possession and let his man drift away.

Dhanda spent a few years at Liverpool without breaking through but established himself at Swansea. You have to think it must have taken a really good offer to tempt him to Ross County.

They will but it was a bit of a surprise that he signed for them in the first place I`d say. He played in the premier league before going to South Africa. I think he did his ACL there but even so it was surprising that he appeared so far down the ladder in league two at QP, where he then won back to back promotions.
