Nineteen year old Kai McLean has signed for Dunfermline on a short term contract, subject to SFA clearances. Having started his career as a youth at Motherwell, the goalkeeper arrives following a spell with Celtic where he signed his first professional contract in July 2021. The Wishaw born youngster featured in Celtic’s under-18s side, and regularly was one of three goalkeepers part of the matchday squad including Champions League matches.
Kai picked up international experience when receiving call-ups for Northern Ireland at under-16, under-17, under-18 and under-19 level. He made his international debut keeping a clean sheet for the under-16s match against England. He went on to be selected four times at under-17 level playing in Euros qualifying matches against Scotland, Italy and Albania. Kai was selected twice at under-18s and most recently was selected to represent Northern Ireland in two friendly matches against Slovakia in preparation for the under-19 Euro finals.
During the 2023/24 campaign, Kai regularly featured for the young Hoops in UEFA Youth League action, playing five out of the six group stages games.
