We can get a Goalkeeper, left-back and left sided attacker all on loan for decent wages that won`t break the bank. It is desperately required. I`d expect 3/4 loans to come in fairly soon now.

Yes, a reserve goalkeeper (ideally one who can legitimately compete with Mehmet), a left back or left sided defender who can play left back and centre back, and a left midfielder/winger would be good. Another centre forward option would be good too although I guess Sutherland would see his minutes limited even further.
I think Kerr McInroy is still without a club should we be looking at getting someone different in the middle of the park?

Not necessarily. He might`ve turned down offers, one of our better players last season with a higher average Points per game than the squads average without him in it
Paul Allan featured in 27 league matches last season he started 18 and was subbed in 9 times.
We won 9 drew 10 and lost 8,
Average points per game 1.37
The squad played 36. Won 11 drew 12 and lost 13.
Average points per game 1.25
When paul never featured
W2 D2 L5
Average points per game 0.89
He is a decent championship footballer and our squad is currently weaker without him.
That's the facts.

I feel sorry for Paul. He really needed another season in League 1 the season we were promoted. Obviously back then there were warning signs but I genuinely think had he went on loan to a Kelty Hearts, weād have been looking at a much different player. In stead he wasnāt truely 100% over his knee. He only started coming into his game as we let him go and he ended up training at Hamilton ffs
We are desperate for players of championship quality. I canāt see where they will come from

They still have to manage the club for the next 6-12 months and possibly beyond. That means they still have to protect their investment to some degree. Punting the manager and signing players are difficult decisions they may still have to make.

Paul is good with the ball at his feet. He always put a good corner in and could play a good pass but he struggled with the pace of the game in the championship. He wasnāt physical enough and was basically a gaping hole in the middle of the park when defending. It was even worse the few times we played Chalmers and Paul together in central midfield.
I hope the best for Paul since heās a local lad but perhaps the fact heās struggling to get a club shows roughly where he lies in the pecking order of Scottish midfielders.

^^^ That quote from the board announcement is almost contradictory in nature.
On one hand the fans have been pushing for answers on the lack of strength/numbers in the first team.
On the other hand the board have been silent on the matter this frustrating the fans. On occasion the manager has hinted at being no more signings and appeared down-beat.
Then to publish what can only be described as a hurried messy rant blaming the fans whilst in the same announcement acknowledging the same concerns as the fans on the quality of the squad. Hypocritical !
I am suspicious that no funds will be released for players.
After the recent ICT scandal not paying teams for loanees, what team would send their players to us with the same fear.

Comrie is a good enough championship player though, we need to bring in players so that those who are not good enough for the championship are moved to the bench.
From the team on Saturday Iād suggest a decent left back or left wing back, as not convinced the new guy is at the required standard and canāt lose otoo from the middle of the park. Chalmers should be on the bench at this level, McCann on the bench at this level, ideally Iād want better than fisher and with pace to cover bene who is struggling and thereās no cover for him. We obviously need players with pace and legs as the team doesnāt have either and as such thereās no forward impetus. Another option is needed if wotherspoon gets injured or struggles to play so often on the heavy pitches.
Iād even argue KRH needs to really show something or weāll need better but he might improve with better around him.
For me this is prob mcpakes last money to bring in players, needs to really improve his success rate.

Iāve no doubt about Conrie being good enough btw. Heās a good player for us. Solid 7 out of 10 every week - works hard, solid in the tackle. I like him. He did need surgery on his knee last season hence Welsh-Hayes on loan.
Iām not sold on Ngwenya yet either but that could be because weāre comparing him to Josh Edwardsš¤·š»āāļø I think he deserves a little time especially since we wonāt have the funds.

I`ve no idea if we`re going to sign MWH but I think he would strengthen the squad. He can play RB, RWB or CB, possibly even LB, and is energetic and `streetwise`.
I agree we need cover at LB/LWB but where is the cover for Comrie at RB/RWB? It would also free him up to play CB if required.

Considering every time Berkey posts, you two are climbing out the woodwork to criticise his posts...
And he`s not wrong in the slightest at saying we need 5 players or more. This current squad are relegation fodder.
I find it weird that anyone who questions his views or opinions is accused of attacking or abusing him.
He`s not always right.

That escalated fast.
It tells me something when all the players Iāve consistently said are not good enough are playing every week and we wonder why we are not winning games and not even looking like scoring.
Weāre watching the same game so will be interesting to see which areas mcpake looks to strengthen if heās only able to bring 2-3 in. Hopefully he looks outside of his friends network for a change, thereās a whole world of players out there we donāt even consider.

Do you really think players are bothered about stuff like that? As long as they think they`ll get paid (if not a loanee) and have a good chance of playing I can`t imagine they`re interested in ownership matters.

Of course they do,
Would you want to sign for a team that`s marooned at the bottom of the league and playing rubbish football with an ownership model which has no interest in the club going forward?
I wouldn`t!

I would hope the player would have enough confidence in his own ability to help the club so `marooned` (by one point!) at the foot of the table to improve on the `rubbish football`. I can`t see us offering long-term deals so he can get away if things don`t work out.

After it was announced Paul Allan wasn`t being awarded a new contract, JMcP gave the impression he would like to have kept him but the financial position prevented this. Although I wondered at the time if this really was the reason, now that additional funds have been made available and the player is too should we expect him to be signed?

Paul Allan is an upgrade on chalmers but heās still not really what we need to turn this around. We need creative players with pace who can make things happen. A decent left back. Also a goalie who is better than Mehmet.

I`d have him back in a minute but I`d imagine they will be looking for him to go to a higher level.
Apart from the obvious need for a 2nd keeper we are crying out for some pace further forward as others have said so I`m not sure we would be recruiting for MFW`s position.

I wonder if the players we did bring in believed that 44 points and survival was the aim or whether they thought we would be challenging higher up the league with a more competitive squad? Morale must be pretty low just now. Hopefully, we manage to get a couple in and start picking up points sooner rather than later.

We wouldn`t pay the money to keep Paul Allan but people believe we might sign MWH that`s under contract and on circa Ā£3000 a week is laughable.
The Germans now have to at the least protect their investment if not improve it if they wish the recover their funds so I fully believe they will bring in a couple of players but its not going to be world beaters it will players to get us off the bottom of the table.

The Paul Allen situation - it`s not that we simply couldn`t afford him, it`s that we have a limited budget and choose to spend it on other players.
It sounds like they would have liked to have kept him for another year in case he developed but maybe the money went towards Kane and/or Wotherspoon?
On MFW, I don`t think folk are expecting we can sign him on a permanent deal, just a loan. In that case our contribution depends on the loan arrangement. Cardiff might want him to go on loan at a higher level of course.
Agree with others, defence is probably not the priority.

Kane, oāhallaran, and wotherspoon are on less wages than they could get elsewhere as mcpake just convinced them to come here for the fresh air rather than the money?
Wotherspoon already ditched us last year for the money. Starting to wonder if oāhallaren has a big fee if he starts a game and Kane is a total gamble that other clubs might not have been prepared to take, espech on a 2 year deal.

DJAS if true (big if) than thatās even worse considering we gave him access to training facilities etc.
I suspect it might have been a higher guaranteed wage at ICT and we wanted a low wage with various bonuses.
If the best we are likely to get is a summers or Moffat type player with zero experience in the menās game then thatās not going to improve our league position. At the moment in time we need both quality and numbers. Not just numbers.
I wouldnāt be surprised to see Jakubiak back if we have the money for more experience, canāt hit a cows worse with a banjo but at least has strength and pace.

If he was good enough, wouldn`t he already have a team in this league?
He was good enough
If he was he`d have a new club. Shame for the boy but that`s facts
That`s the facts.

Not sure what you mean summer agent?
Unless we start picking up some points the club becomes less valuable every week. If it takes a few months to set up the club could well be adrift at the bottom of the league which might jeopardise the value of the sale. Hence the reason some cash has been made available to try and keep us in the pack.

I`d be surprised to see him back there. You never know but there were talks of him refusing to play when he was there until they agreed to sell him.
He has had a few off-field issues recently, skipping training and also being banned from the squad back in May for a `disciplinary issue`.
I wonder if now he has made some money if he has lost some of the desire? At 500k, he could be worth a punt for them, though if they can get him fit.

Could well be right about Kevin Nisbets attitude, he admits himself his attitude wasn`t right when he was younger. When he joined Raith Rovers he was probably thinking if this doesn`t work out it will be part time football next. He managed to screw the nut and get 3 successive moves to bigger clubs and international recognition, you do wonder if he now thinks he`s `made it` and has taken his foot off the gas again.

To be fair, we will have had a 2 week gap between fixtures to get some names in - I dont see it happening now. Disappointing to say the least.

What you may have missed over the years DA is that I may be sceptical about certain signings etc but always allow them a chance to prove themself.
I donāt think Ive ever been disappointed with us making signings until after they have shown themself on the park. But the current situation does require us to make the right signings to move us forward. Now is not the time to throw the eggs into the development basket.

I`m sure there`ll be a willing contender to jump down my throat for suggesting this but what about a player like Gary Mackay-Steven on loan? He`s at Killie but he`s very much a squad player. His skill, talent and attacking flare might help inspire confidence in the forwards?
Just a thought. Looking forward to being slaughtered.

Would be excellent, I think? Left sided too.
Big problem would be the wages. It seems we can`t offer enough to tempt young teenage goalies, so GMS would likely be outside of a "sensible" signing?

"whoās left thatās not under contract and free?"
Fenton, Allan, Jakubiak...
Tony Gallacher, Kerr McInroy, Stuart McKinstry, Gabby McGill
there are a few others that are either out of our league or not good enough.
down south there will still be a few if looking further afield.
if Josh Cooper is the level being looked at though, can forget any of those...

The "funds" will be used to accommodate loan signings. The outgoing board have made it clear they are not willing to spend money. They have probably exhausted most of the funds they had available for this project of their`s.
The level of our club was probably too high for their budget.
They would`ve been better trying it at kelty hearts of east fife.

I don`t understand that comment. Signings cost money whether they are loans or contract signings surely?
They probably put around Ā£2m into the club. If our level is `too high` for them how likely is it we`re going to find an alternative who can afford to finance us?

Our level and the budget required to do what they wanted was too high. They probably needed 5/6 mil to do everything they wanted and keep us competitive for the 5/10 years required. A smaller club like east fife might have been able to professionalise, training ground etc and maintain a first team at league 1/2 for 5/10 years at 2/3 mil.
The funds allocated for signings will be for accommodation costs for loan signings, which we are not paying full wages/signing on fees for. That`ll be our lot till they sell up.

How can you possibly know the full cost of their plans was `probably` 5/6 million and the financial capacity of a club like East Fife? Did you prepare a business plan? If only the expertise available on this forum was available FOC to the club. Think of the money we would save. I remember thinking the same about the medical expertise available on social media during the COVID pandemic.
As for the cost of signings, not all loanees require accommodation.

You`re quite argumentative today eh?
It`s quite obvious that 2 mil wasn`t enough and seeing as we are 4/5 years into their failed reign as owners. Therefore, it`s not unreasonable to guess the total cost would be around double that.
While not all loanees will require accommodation, most will. And almost all of them will want expenses etc covered.

I`m not convinced, hence the word "probably" and bear in mind we are looking at this in hindsight. So it`s easier to judge.
I am convinced their attack on the fans is just a smokescreen because they`ve made a mess of the task at hand and won`t admit they underestimated the level of investment required.

Of course the German owners didn`t have or won`t fund the Pars project properly, we have a training ground that can`t be hired out ,can`t be used for the reserves , and a first team operating without a back up keeper through the league cup section, and are struggling to recruit Div 1 players .

Oh the irony
Anyway what he is saying is if they tried the project with a smaller club then the demands of the fans would be less, meaning they would be able to develop an infrastructure project without being seen to be the detriment of the first team.
If they had looked at the performance of DAFC they would see that they are a 2nd tier yo-yo team with dips into 3rd tier so the expectations of the fan base would at the minimum be second tier. If they could not afford to maintain that level while building infrastructure then obviously the relationship would fracture and impact income.
Clearly even with limited information they do not have the funds to do both or we would have things like a 2nd goalkeeper or a team that looks vaguely capable of competing int he division.

Or they looked and saw an incredibly well supported team with low overheads who were clearly underperforming. Unfortunately, you need to spend decent sums of money to build up that consistency. The statement they released suggested fans wanted money thrown at the club but the reality is all most fans want is incremental improvements. We were a pretty consistent Championship side but got relegated and spent last season looking like relegation fodder. This season it appears almost guaranteed we`ll be relegated again and it`ll cost more to support a promotion campaign than to build a mid-table championship team.

Their definition of competitive clearly differed from the general fan view of competitive at this level. Before they fully were on board, the club was in a good position in 4th, just needing a little more help to push us up to 2nd/3rd or past the first round of the playoffs.
Now, we`ve been relegated and having come back up, to McPake`s credit of turning that squad around in league 1, we were only 3 points off the relegation playoffs last season. This squad is also worse than what we finished with by some distance in what looks to be a more competitive league.
Nobody was ever asking for huge sums to be spent on the first team, but they certainly have allowed it to stagnate and have not looked to improve it year on year whilst most of the league has strengthened

Unless we start picking up some points the club becomes less valuable every week. I think Dave Mackay had left SJ before Max arrived so he doesn`t fit the required criteria.
The lad has an interesting story though. Craig Levein spotted him playing in Kiyv when he was there to watch a European match and offered him facilities at Hearts. He used to make regular trips between Kiyv and Edinburgh for training and coaching. When Levein left Hearts they let him go and SJ picked him up. He`s had loan spells at Brechin, Kelty and Falkirk. I think it`s fair to say he hasn`t quite fulfilled the potential Craig Levein first saw in him.

I never said that was his main fault.
But it`s a by-product of playing for him in this style. The players are not performing and haven`t been for 12 months, really. That`s 5% of a players career. it`s pretty much wasted add in this season, and it`s 10% (if they have a 20-year career)
It`s hard to give him credit. Yes, he won League one. But he should have. Yes, we stayed up last season, but performances were not great by any stretch of the imagination.
Morton and QP at East End, the worst I have seen in 35 years.
Let`s add to that Cove and Forfar.
His job is to win football matches and develop players. He is failing on both counts, and that`s not harsh.

That`s a bit harsh. Edwards got a move to Charlton and Otoo has attracted attention from Crawley. Allan should be able to kick on now that he`s free of McPake by your argument.
I don`t think this is harsh at all, I`m struggling to think of any players who have improved under McPake. Edwards main improvement came under Stevie Crawford (like many others), he`s been treading water since. I was actually frustrated that his improvement seemed to have stalled

Eck. That first team yesterday should beat Hamilton comfortably. As I`ve said umpteen times before.
You can spot a well trained, well drilled team a mile off.
We are nowhere near it.
It`s actually scandalous.

I wish it was as simple as that, mike. Would you say Airdrie, Partick and the Rovers were well-drilled sides under McCabe, Doolan and Murray? Most fans would have said yes before the season started and praised their recruitment. What`s gone wrong there? There are probably lots of factors at play but the simple answer is to blame the manager. I bet McCabe and Doolan are getting pelters on their fans` forums.

I bet they are,
But with us, it`s been for his WHOLE tenure.
Add to that the comments about his previous position, and it seems to be systematic of his style.
We had a junior sprint champion on our books at CB 2nd half of last season. He`s probably one of the fastest players in Scotland. Did we play a higher line and take more risks? No. That, to me, tells me that he isn`t willing to play to players` strengths.

Thatās great but absolutely nobody else in the back line has any pace whatsoever and weād need to change the way the team as a whole defended to accommodate it - while weāve got 9 first team players sitting in the stand injured.
MFW played well for us and we got what we needed from him. Putting the rest of the team and him under pressure by changing how we defended would have been a huge risk - that we wouldnāt have needed to make.

I wouldn`t say McPake`s main fault was a failure to improve players but you are so against the guy you give him no credit at all.

If only the club was run by some of the experts on here. They wouldn`t have appointed McPake despite the fact he got Dundee promoted to the Premiership. Of course opinions are allowed. Where have I suggested otherwise? Have I got to agree with yours but you don`t have to agree with mine?
All I`m saying is a manager`s entire career record shouldn`t be trashed because he has a poor start to a season. Should Rovers have appointed Ian Murray in the first place? At what point will Rhys McCabe`s record at Airdrie be called into question? Most managers` careers end in failure. It doesn`t mean they were total failures the whole time.

We don`t have to move on, as we keep losing and playing badly in the process.
To me, the Morton and QP performances were unforgivable.
The Cove and Forfar performances were almost expected.
And I fully expect us to go down with an almost record lowest points/goals totals.

OK. By that logic, then you wouldn`t use a new strikers blistering pace to spring offside traps even though the rest of the squad are not used to playing alongside him.
It`s not reinventing the wheel....its being 5-10 yards further up the pitch and playing in a more positive manner as a result, knowing you`ve got a safety net of someone rapid in the back line.
And as for taking the p!ss outta my knowledge....you didn`t even know he was fast until this afternoon.

MFW is an example of that. He`s already been trying to play KRH as a wing back or through the middle.
He gets a keeper who is terrible with the ball at his feet under pressure to play out from the back.

Cooper was central. Box to box if you like.
Wotherspoon started on the left with McCann in the middle; they swapped after about 30 minutes; presumably Spoony was a bit deeper than McCann had been.
Young came on for Fisher
Cooper come on for Ngwenya with Otoo moving to LB
Chalmers came on for Bene with Hamilton dropping back to LCB.
Wighton replaced Kane;
Sutherland replaced KRH with McCann moving to the right wing (so TS was more on the left)
At least, that`s how I remember it.

Well we didnāt push for promotion but we were safe from relegation. So all things considered, what were you expecting? We got a mid table finish, anything more and weād have been pushing for promotion š¤·š»āāļø
Maybe he looked at the strengths and weaknesses of all players he had available in stead of highlighting one thing about one player.
He never changed how we defended because itās not just the back line it affects, itās everyone in front of it as well. They all need to be working to the same plan.
KRH was signed as a central midfielder but was moved out wide after Montrose bullied him off the ball numerous times and ended up beating us. Heās been giving him time back in the centre since but heās still a developing young player. Itās also not unusual for players to play in numerous positions. I donāt see what your problem is?
Mehmets mistakes are his mistakes. McPakes mistake was giving him a longer contract than necessary that being said, Do you think heās asking him to play out like Ederson type of thing or do you think he asks him to pass it one of the defenders first instead of hitting it long every time?
I honestly have no clue what you were expecting him to do with the squad last year? Our injury list was that long guys were playing with injuries when normally they would have been given a rest. Breen, Comrie, Bene & Ben Summers all played at times they probably shouldnāt have. Breen and Bene ended up aggravating injuries because they did. There could well have been others that played with injuries.

Also on the striker front I see Hearts have said James Wilson can leave on loan, very good young striker who played some minutes towards the end of last season. Know a few Jambos who think he is a talent and a very good finisher. Would be interesting to see if we are looking into that option.

We should be looking for a decent winger if we only have 1 more signing. Although mcpake would prob play him at wing back with no license to go forward.
We could really do with trying to loan some of the experienced proās out and getting better in but no one wants them.

MFW played the full 90 mins for Cardiff v Southampton tonight.
Great to see him kicking on. Ending was a bit of a sickener for them no doubt. Some great goals from outside the box.
