 MCPAKE OUT
Topic Originator: DRreturns
Date:   Sat 24 Aug 16:25

As above

4 wins in nearly 8 months, utter disgrace.

The fans were mouthy enough to get the Germans to sell up but not so noisy to get McPake out.

He plays boring, flat & utter tosh football and his changes are dog $hit3

That`s his team, his tactics, you can`t blame the board for the poor results but you can blame them for not getting rid.

If he`s quick enough, he can hop in the taxi with the Germans!!!

The best we can hope for is mcpake walks.

The board won`t admit that their faith in him is misplaced.

We are becoming marooned at the bottom.

It`s not the players. It`s the system and the training.

We only won League 1 because of the budget gulf.

And we`d only win this league if Mcpake was given a massive budget.

There is better managers out there.

Mcpake has already told us he’s not good enough.

“When we first came into the club, we watched this player and both myself and Dave said, ‘if we can’t make this player better then we shouldn’t be coaches”

They have failed, and it’s not just an inability to get something out of a player who is not good enough, its that they thought giving him a deal until 2026 was a good idea when essentially he has done nothing to deserve it.

Contract till 2026 ffs, honestly what a feckin shambles we are. He won’t be leaving anytime soon. Unless we bring 3-4 experienced players in we are heading straight to league one…

I think in fairness players have improved under him. Josh Edward’s improved enough for Charlton to buy him. Otoo & KRH both look much improved compared to when the first arrived.

It’s not improving players that’ll be his downfall. It’s stagnating tactics and choices of renewing player contracts that I’d say he’s made poor decisions over.

KRH looks a shadow of the player he was in league 1. He hasn’t improved atall. Maybe that’s his level, or maybe he’s been hung out to dry by being played as a defensive wing back or central midfielder ffs.

Say what you like about the board, mcpake has consistently shown he isn’t up to managing a club like Dunfermline. 1 goal in 6 games is absolutely atrocious and he should have been punted a long time ago.

To be clear the quote and giving a contract to 2026 is to McCann who now typifies us as a team. Will work hard but a lack of ability to perform at championship level mean we know where we are going.

I assume mcpake is on a 12 month rolling deal.

I think his heart is not there anymore. I cannot fathom for the life of me why he persists with the same tactical line up when we don’t have a Josh Edward’s running up and down the line.
Bene is a shadow of the player he was too and uninspiring
We need to go back to basics with 4-4-2 and scrape results by at least giving our forwards some chances to score.
I think he should resign now

Pars have not been totally outplayed in matches lost. They have enjoyed a decent amount of possession. However, they have really struggled to find their mojo in the final third. I hope a goal or two in the next game will see a turnaround in fortunes.

Nonsense.

Managers resign all the time for a multitude of different reasons.

Mcpake is lucky he has the board situation to cover his bases if he walks now.

His next job interview at QOS/Kelty, etc, he can explain how his hands were tied and the board situ was unsettling. Priorities weren`t aligned with his,

The more this goes on, the worse he looks in the longer term.

This is going to be one of the worst seasons for us with regards to goals scored and points won.

Who has resigned voluntarily? Maybe a big name who is financially secure but a young ambitious manager would not want to be seen to be throwing in the towel even in difficult circumstances. It would suggest a lack of confidence in his own abilities to turn things around.

They resigned. Mcpake can be disillusioned with the job now. If he hangs on until getting punted in November with hardly any goals/points, it will look at a lot worse than walking now. At least now he can blame the board.

I don`t see what that has to do with it. He probably thinks he can still turn it around.

Not believing it`s actually him that`s the problem.

I don`t think he will quit. But it`s the best for all concerned.

The board won`t take action now because it means they were wrong, and the fans they lambasted last week were correct.

The problem arises when we are in deep **** in November and action has to be taken.

By then, it`s too late.

The ship has sailed, I`m afraid.

Preston manager stepped down after opening game of season - told chairman that he couldn’t take the club further after being in charge for latter part of last season and even after 4 hours of trying to convince him to stay, he still left. Maybe McPake should look at this as an example.

This cant go on much longer or it will damage everyone involved with it - McPake himself, the players under contract, the board, the clubs finances, the fans - the big worry is “fair weather” fans losing complete interest in the team/club and the ones between die hards and fair weather also stepping away for longer periods.

I, for one, wont be back for a good while which hurts to say, but the money to quality aspect just isn’t worth it anymore - rather spend the afternoon with my young daughter instead. The Rovers game will be watched on telly too, which really means Im disillusioned.

No - It’s a tough watch at present & it’s difficult to see where the results will come from. McPake has guts sticking this out. We have no idea what the restrictions are on his recruitment but they do seem severe. He has to to find the answers & quickly.

This could be his “Finest hour”.

I think what is going on in the background will sort itself out. The players and manager can`t control that. You just have to focus on what you can influence and that is performances on the park and hopefully start to get a few results. No point in worrying about things you can`t control.

Buffy if that was the case they would have pulled together and performed on Saturday, the reigns were off type thing.

To see heads go down the minute the other team scores it suggests they don’t believe how they have been set up can get them back into it and for some they don’t believe their current team mates are good enough to take the chances when they do come.

The second half performance would suggest the players must have had a remarkable transformation at half-time if they were so demotivated at the start and then after conceding a poor goal.

McPake commented on the angry attitude amongst the players in the changing room at the break which doesn`t suggest the overriding attitude is one of apathy or resignation to their fate.

The season we won the league, if we scored first i was pretty confident we would see games out and a one goal margin was often enough. Don`t think i have ever felt like that in sll the time watching the Pars it was almost surreal.

Confidence now is rock bottom and flip side of that, naturally, is if we lose the first goal it seems to be almost a foregone conclusion how it will end up.

As far as starts to a season go, losing to teams bottom of both League One and League Two in the cup, plus Hamilton, who are one of the favourites for the drop in the Championship is as bad as it gets.

We’ve played 3 league games, not scored a goal and barely had a shot.

If we don’t get anything from the next two games then I think the manager has to go.

Considering we were beaten at home to Falkirk in amongst this too, it would be up there with our worst starts to a season ever.

If he was sacked today he could have no complaints.

He is probably being given the opportunity to strengthen the squad to save his job. Which is a gamble in itself when you look at our record over the last 12 months.

I don’t think another club our size would have put up with this for so long.

If he get’s the next two games the situation is just going to get worse for him and us.

One thing for sure is if we don`t score any goals and end up with no points in the next 2 games then he should go......will the board back him even more?

Why wait two games though? He’s had his chance.

We have only won 6 out of our last 30 games in all competitions. It’s simply not good enough.

Get rid now and get someone in who can turn this around.

The signings that are expected this week I’m assuming will be his players. He needs a couple of games with the additions to the squad. We need to see an obvious improvement tho.

I wouldn’t say they weren’t his players but why would you let him sign players and sack him in the same week?

Wee exk when I heard mcpake say about the angry attitude at half time in the dressing room it made me think did the players just decide to do the half time team talk between each other to try and sort it and cut mcpake out?

If you replaced mcpake with a traffic cone would we be any worse come Sat? To me there’s very little difference as we don’t look like a team who train properly.

The squad building and contract extensions to players that aren`t up to the level are ultimately down to him. Signed several senior players who haven`t shown the level of ability. 3 years under McPake we have a team that struggles to both create and take chances, which was also the case despite winning league 1.

The football on show is abysmal and he can`t win the games the club is expected to against league 1/league 2 sides in the cup and now don`t look like a competitive championship side. I think it`s delaying the inevitable in not sacking him but he`ll probably be here until October. Look at how long Peter Grant got!

Berkey, I`m always amazed how you think you know what`s going on inside people`s heads. Nothing`s ever straightforward with you, there`s always an ulterior motive. Maybe you overthink things.

I`d love to hear your pep talk to the players, btw. I`m sure you`d fill them with confidence and positivity!

None of us are happy with current performances and results, and ultimately, the buck stops at the manager`s door, but I believe the problems are much deeper than that. The news that our investors wanted out of our club has been in the air for some time, and the players and management were aware of this long before it became public knowledge. It`s all very well to say they should shut out the background noise and concentrate on playing well and getting results. The whole unhappy situation has cast a dark shadow over everyone connected with the Pars, not just the fans. People will lose their jobs when the new owners come in and look to make savings to address the losses the club has made in recent seasons.

I don`t believe McPake and Mackay will be sacked by our current owners. Why would they? They would have to pay them compensation on the remainder of their contract. They`ve already invested quite large sums of money into the club, which they may not get back, so why would they be likely to spend even more? Far easier to leave any decision to the new owners, once the club is sold. We might even see an upturn in the Pars` fortunes, once the club is sold.

I just hope the new owners not only have deep pockets but are Pars fans through and through. 🤞

Eta. Our current investors were involved in the appointment of John Hughes after Peter Grant was sacked. 😱 I think I'd much rather keep the present management team than have them pick another turkey. 🙄

We are where we are. You can argue funds should have been released sooner but is speculation what that would have achieved.

The management team have funds to bring in some new faces. Sometimes change is good, sometimes not. I suspect we are hoping to bring in two more players and that will be it. All of this will take a little time to bed in. The fact that the new boys have been training with us helps to settle them in sooner.

There is a long way to go in this league and teams are all around the same level. Our problem is the inability to score goals so hopefully with the players coming in, we can be more decisive and positive in the final 3rd of the pitch.

The most important thing is to get behind the team every Saturday. As a supporter for over 50 years there have been good and bad times but I have always endeavoured to support the boys on the park. Provided they do their best, I have no problem with it.

Sounds like we need to give the management team and players a break.

Why not get behind them and see how things are after 6 more games. We might be surprised.

I`m surprised by Airdrie and Raith losing.

6 more games! Wow. They left it far too long with grant, can they be so naive to do it again? Mcpake desperately needs a result next weekend. No points, no goals, a team 3 years in the making. Come on let`s get real here. He`s made a pigs ear of it.

Exactly! It’s not like he’s had one season. It’s also the standard of football. Trying to explain to an outsider how bad we are to watch. He’s had more than enough time. I just can’t stand any more of this slow tempo,no attacking, utter drivel style of football.

The quality of the football has been bad since the new owners came in. We’ve wasted far too much money on extending certain player contacts and paying off managers. Sadly that’s left us in a position where we’re going to need to wait a couple of seasons before we see a significant increase in the quality of football played.
The way I see it the sooner we get some new owners the better and we can start to rebuild the team and hopefully incorporate our young players that are coming through.
I think the current crop of players have been dragged through the ringing with this board and it’s effectively brought a black cloud over EEP.
If we can avoid relegation the next 2 seasons then financially we may be able to attract and pay for better quality players with more experience. There is no money for a quick fix.

The board won`t do anything as regards Mcpake. They want out and they`ll leave it to the new guys. They wouldn`t have handed over funds to then sack him, common sense dont you think ?

Alternatively the longer they leave things as they are, in theory the less valuable their assets become

I get that. But they`re only able to hand over money to get youngsters on loan again, so I think they`re willing to cut losses and just go asap.
But as usual, we`re just guessing as we go along.

Can only go asap if their valuations are met and there is a suitable buyer. I highly doubt there is a massive queue of investors willing to buy us.

What assets? 🤔 the only investment they need back is the money they have invested, they don’t own the ground/training ground/players etc.

They just wont invest further cash into the club and allowed it to be “self sustainable” until a buyer is found - Id be shocked to hear that the 3 players signed last week are being footed for by the investors money. More likely money spent from season tickets/ticket sales v Falkirk going towards it.

Their "asset" is shares. Those shares become less desirable the longer this goes on.

Which means they will cling on as long as they can till they get a big enough return on those shares. This isnt going to be over in the next month and will be lucky if it is even resolved by the end of the season. By which point we may well be down in League 1 again. What a promising acquisition that sounds like!

If we are running at a £1 million loss a year that is 3k per day.I imagine they will be looking to get out sooner rather than later.Whoever comes in is going to have to severely reduce outgoings or start absorbing the costs.

Has this consecutive £1m loss a year been confirmed?

I know the first one was from financial year of us being in League 1 but i keep seeing people drop in commemts about losing £1m two years in succession? Surely no!
