Hope they pull through it, incredibly significant club in the history of Scottish football.

On an unrelated note I wonder how the wee teams finances will be after they appeared to have spent a fortune this season and look to be struggling at the moment to make the play offs

Wee team are only spending what they get from Mr Convertor.

They’ll be fine

Sorry to hear this. I’ve lots of good memories of Boghead with some decent crowds there, particularly around the time they won promotion in 71/72 season under Jackie Stewart - not the racing driver from nearby Dumbuck. Alex Wright (dealt a very bad hand at EEP) continued the progress Stewart had made when he took over following the promotion. Dumbarton have produced some great players over the years ... John Bourke, Murdo Macleod, Graham Sharp to name but three. Their new gaffe was never going to have the same appeal as ramshackle Boghead but I enjoyed my visits there. I hope, like ICT, they can see this through.

Weird him being so keen to spend money on a club in that way. Amazing how the number of sold season tickets magically doubled too.

A long history behind the club. Remember a young Jackie McNamara being well coached by Norrie in a game a long time ago. The journey to Boghead was sometimes interesting. First time I went, we asked a Bobby directing traffic where the ground was. He had no idea either!!!ended up going through gardens to get there.

I remember going to a Dumbarton v Hearts Premier League game at Boghead back in the Pitbauchlie bus days, after our game at Love St or Cappielow was a late call off.

Honestly I don’t know about it either.

Could he just be a local guy with a bit of cash that willing to put that much money into a football club… possibly!

Converters group is a big company but I don’t think it’s any bigger than KDM/SRJ… certainly not bigger than the Purvis group in its pomp 🤷🏻‍♂️

The guy who sold Kingdom Homes for nearly 80 million is on their board. He also owns The Dean Park Hotel. Plenty loose change but not unlimited.

There was a snippet on "Good Morning Scotland" radio earlier - a survey around chairmen in lower leagues - the consensus is that all are struggling month to month and Dumbarton may not be the last to go into administration.

One factor is that local small businesses who financially support these clubs season to season have had to reduce sponsorship during and after Covid.

It was Dean McKenzie I was referring too.

Think the sale of Kingdom was closer to £30/35 million 🤔 that doesn’t mean he received all of that monies either. However it went down, he’s definitely received a fair chunk of change tho

I thought all the extra spending was down to the increase in pie sales 😏

Aye, did Raith`s figures not show an extra £600k in the coffers in the first half of last season due to hospitality, when the only change I could see is what looks like a wee Portacabin being put on the touchline. Some creative accounting going on

Assuming profit of, say, £30 per person in hospitality, that would mean they had 185 extra people PER MATCH in their hospitality. The combined capacity of their hospitality spaces is less than half that 😂

I think it was just under double their previous figure.Falkirk increased theirs by 69% between 2022 and 2023 so it is doable. It will be interesting to see Raiths figures for this season since they have been struggling on the park though.

issue Dumbarton (as with Most clubs have) is they have a stadium that has running costs 365 days and income on 18 days. Minumal usage on non matchdays so reliant on bums on seats at games and big hospitality sales etc to boost numbers.

The BBC article parsmad68 referenced at 08:56 suggests a main contributory factor is a reduction in sponsorship and support from local businesses which are feeling the pinch themselves. Clubs can`t survive solely on ticket sales and income generated from fans. There also seems to be a problem with the inflation of players` wages. League 1 in particular was mentioned.

The issue is there needs to be massive changes in Scottish football to support these clubs but it won`t happen under the current leadership who appear happy to undersell the leagues and act only in the interests of two clubs.

Statement from JJR PRINT LTD

DUMBARTON F.C.
Statement from Stewart Byron,
Managing Director of JJR Print Ltd
"We are saddened to learn the news today that the Board of Directors of Dumbarton FC have taken the tough decision to appoint administrators. Although we are not surprised at this it is still a worrying time ahead for the employees, fans and players of our club.
We were proud and excited to be able to contribute to the club this year with the home kit sponsorship. An opportunity for our small company to contribute and give something back. Although we have yet to be contacted by anyone at the club. We hope to be able to continue our support and will work with the administrators in any way we can. Our hope is that they will find the best path out of this situation, and ultimately the future survival of Dumbarton FC.
We have been supplying the clubs printing free this year, alongside the shirt sponsorship. We would urge other local companies to offer assistance where they can, whether it is financial or by way of services. I imagine any help will be gratefully received.
We will also be contacting the Sons Supporters Trust to offer a donation for them to use towards bus costs or perhaps a fighting fund for the club."
#sonsoftherock #savethesons #jjrprint #dumbartonfc

doesnt sound like club reached out to sponsors to see if could re-neogotiate sponsorships etc.

The club haven`t been doing much. They are owned by a conman you wanted to build houses on the ground. This isn`t a case of a club struggling with modern pressures, this is the age old problem of when dodgy people get involved in football

Sky Sports have a stranglehold on Scottish Football showing only the OF fixtures. The SFA and the SPFL care only about these two clubs so nothing will change. Would love to see them leave Scottish Football but unfortunately that is never going to happen.

It’s a matter of time…

EPL tv deal is dwarfing money in the other leagues. The big Euro clubs will band together at some point I’m sure but they’d need more than 10/12 clubs for legitimacy. The ugly sisters of Scottish football are almost certainly big enough to add to that and I’m sure they’d benefit financially from it
