The last of the founding fathers of rock’n roll is no more. There was some Scots-Irish blood in Lewis’ background which might partly explain a tendency to disruption, controversy and self-destruction throughout his life. That mean, tight lipped delivery seemed quite familiar. His attitude was that if you didn’t like his Louisiana drawl then that was your problem.

He was a significant figure in Country as well as Rock n’ Roll.
His Rock n’ Roll following complained he was too Country and the latter fan base vice versa.
Deported from the U.K. in the late 1950s after he brought his child bride on a tour - what was legal in Louisiana (?) wasn’t here.

His second wife was 13 when they married in Mississippi, late 1957, he was 22 - and still had a first wife.
Marriage laws across different states in the US varies, even more so back then - and there were/are a bunch of exemptions AFAIK.
A few years ago I met a former UK tour support staffer of JLL - the "Killer" spent his off stage time watching videos of "Gunsmoke" in his suite.
