Greenock Morton 0 - 2 Dunfermline Athletic
Sat, 30th Apr 2011
Martin Who? The absence through injury of the main man who had inspired the recent Martin mania meant the Pars were not going to clinch promotion the Hardie way, but rather through the efforts of the other players in the squad. As it happened, an early close range goal from McDougall sent them on their way, and a superb second half David Graham strike wrapped up the championship.

Brilliant. Marvellous. Magnificent. Are there any other adjectives you could use to describe Martin Hardie? Rarely can a 35-year-old have been catapulted towards canonisation in a few short weeks but by scoring two second-half goals, one a regulation back post header, the second a tremendous free-kick curved over the defensive wall, BMMMH further endeared himself to the faithful as the Pars took an enormous stride towards promotion.

Despite having only a Hardie goal to show for their first half dominance, they appeared to be cruising to victory when suddenly Rutkiewicz was sent off seconds from the break. Nevertheless, the Pars kept going forward and were rewarded with second-half goals from Graham (2), Higgins, Kirk and Clarke with a Bob Harris counter only briefly causing concern.

At this stage of the season only one thing matters – points. This wasn’t a pretty performance, but with the home team never troubling goalkeeper Smith the question was whether the Pars could score. After missing a sitter in the first half Buchanan slotted home on the hour and that was enough for the three points.
