Post Match Interviews
Author: Stuart Meldrum Date: Saturday, 19th Mar 2005Highlights from interviews given by Davie Hay, Derek Stillie, Derek Young and Barry Nicholson after the game at EEP against Hibs.
Davie Hay
Davie feels that his team deserved their half time lead but that the defence let the side down by conceding two goals in quick succession. He doesn’t believe that Stillie was fouled for the Hib’s equaliser and praises Hugh Dallas on his over all performance. Although he admits that the result was a very heavy defeat he is adamant that there is enough time to rectify the situation and pull away from the relegation zone and he talks of how important the next game against Livingston will be. Davie looks at the rest of the season as a real dogfight with the worst possible outcome being relegation from the SPL.
Derek Stillie
Derek explains that the side was playing some of the best football they have played all year and were dealing with everything Hibs threw at them but admits that one goal isn’t good enough for the pars this season. He also stands his ground and states that Gary O’Conner fouled him because the striker didn’t get a touch of the ball and he describes this as the turning point of the game. Derek realises that there is the possibility of relegation but also that they have played most of the top teams and it will be a chance to pick up points from the lower clubs of which Dunfermline are unfortunately one.
Derek Young
Derek was very pleased with the team’s performance for the first hour and is disappointed that they didn’t get 3 points having a lot of first half chances, but he explains that as so often this season slack defending cost them dear. Derek gives his opinion on why the team has become a shadow of what they were last season and believes that the amount of good players that left the club considerably contributed to this season’s downfall.
Barry Nicholson
Barry also feels that his side was the better for a lot of the game but that massive mistakes cost them a win. He praises the Hib’s young boys but is of the opinion that the pars matched them throughout the game and is happy to get back on the score sheet. Although Barry would still rather play on grass he tells us that the pitch is a lot better than what was laid but it is the wear and tear which will cause it problems.
